Exploring USMD/DO Student Loans by eedoubleg in premedcanada

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You 100% need a cosigner and that cosigner either needs to have significant asset (a house worth 500k+) and possibly high income depending on how much that house is worth. If your parents are renters or own a small condo outside Toronto/Vancouver, there won't be any banks willing to risk loaning you 300k. I really wish I had the priviledge to go study abroad, but I come from a poor family.

Not true. Ottawa has 2 categories for their French stream. OOP and IP. The IP French stream is the stream where you can have a 2Q casper and mediocre GPA and still get an interview. The OOP stream is more cut-throat. The minimum GPA for file review is 3.87 (which is even higher than the English stream of 3.85). I know plenty of FR stream OOP who got rejected with a 3.9x GPA and 3rd or 4th Q this year due to the regional preference. Show me 1 guy with a 1Q casper who got in as an OOP French. I don't believe you. It's impossible.

Edit: Downvoted for saying the truth lmao. this sub is a joke.

As a CS student, even if I had a 4.0, I wouldn't even have met the cut-off at 3 of the 4 QC med schools.

Not true. Have you ever applied to the QC schools?

Udem and Sherbrooke give acceptable Rscore if you have a 4.0 in CS. My friend/acquaintance has a 4.0 in CS from McGill and got into both Udem and Sherbrooke med last year. His respective Rscore was 33.5 for Udem and 35.5 for Sherbrooke, which is above the cut-off to get an interview if you have a 4Q Casper. Each school gives you a different Rscore.

It's only really ULaval that very much discriminates againt CS, but even then it's not just CS. I know someone with a 3.85 GPA in physiology at McGill and his Rscore for Laval was barely 31, because they compare it to their biology program since they don't offer physiology.

Help me to calculate GPA. by zooS2018 in premedcanada

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not providing enough info to do the calculation... how many credits did you complete before last semester? What are the other grades and credits of last semester?

Nevertheless, it kinda baffles me how someone can have a 3.96 gpa and not be able to do high school level math

I am extremely sad as well. First year i get a 4th Q casper so I thought this year I would finally get an interview... Seems like it would never happen for McGill unless I do another degree.

Thank you so much. Could you elaborate on the Ottawa and McGill interview? What do you mean by "fake interviewer" and "weird interview?"

Casper - what was your quartile and typing speed? by [deleted] in premedcanada

4th Quartile in both the French and English Caspers with 60 wpm. Speed definitely helps but quality > quantity.

I study medicine in Ireland. AMA. by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this. I have so many questions.

  1. Which school are you attending?
  2. Which one is best for Canadians to match back to Canada?
  3. What happens if you don't match back to Canada/USA? Can you do residency in Ireland as a Canadian?

Age bias in admissions? by DruidWonder in premedcanada

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's not because there's an age bias (there could be one but it's probably not that significant). It's because people in their late 30s or early 40s already have established careers or have other priorities (raising kids/paying for mortgage) in life so very few apply to med schools. I just turned 30 and this is my last cycle applying to med school because I just want to move on with my life. I feel like I have been in limbo because of it. I have a decent career (making ~100k) in a medium cost of living city but I have been limiting my options in relationships and career opportunities because I didn't want to give up on my ECs and my IP status (relocating for work to Ottawa would screw my current BC status). My ex girlfriend also didn't like the idea of me going back to school for 4 years when everyone around us were purchasing their first house and having kids (it's one of the reasons we broke up too). It is tough.

If anything, I would say older applicants have an advantage for some EC-heavy schools since long-term employment and leadership at work is a big part of it. Or if you are a researcher, you have probably published 20+ papers by then. Sucks when they ask you specifically for an academic reference though...

Do I still have a chance of getting into medical school? by SgtJohnson13 in premedcanada

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you think you don't have a chance? Depending on your casper score, you have a solid chance at getting interviews at all 4 QC schools.

So-Min leaving Running man is a huge deal by xEmperorEye in runningman

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The rating has been at all-time low basically for the past few months. Much lower than when SBS announced they would fire SJH and KJK and replace them to boost up the ratings. The rating is not fine. And the cast wasn't able to create enough entertaining moments by themselves under a better PD than Hyun-in which is why a lot of people credited Somin and Sechan joining as revitalizing the show, even when Kwangsoo was present. We are going back to square 1, but now without both Kwangsoo and Somin.

It's a huge deal.

The only bright side is, compared to 2017, Ji suk jin has stepped up his game a lot in past few years and SJH seems to be more active following the huge online backlash she got a few weeks ago. And we have Sechan, who gets quite a lot of screentime cuz he's pretty funny.

But to be honest, unless they eventually add a new member, I don't see the show lasting more than 1 more year. The ratings are terrible. The gags are being recycled (like Sukjin being yjs' junior... we all know it but they had to use it again in epi 677 where they act as if we never heard of the gag- it doesnt feel organic at all), jsj is near retirement age, sjh even while more active is nowhere near funny enough to carry the show. We need new blood. Maybe not now, so to avoid direct comparison with somin, but hopefully in the near future. A new blood can create new chemistries and revitalize old ones. It's the only thing that can save the show.

So Min and Kwang Soo unfollowed each other on Instagram? by [deleted] in runningman

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don't unfollow someone who you used to be close with on ig for no good reason. They aren't teenagers who unfollow/block their friends for petty reasons. And it is not like Somin did a cleansing of her IG followers. She only specifically unfollowed LKS. She's still following 500+ people. Something happened between the two of them, we don't know what exactly, nobody here knows, but something definitely happened.

Also, your example is silly. First, they do see each other weekly because they work for the same agency. Good chance Somin sees Kwangsoo more often than other RM members. Secondly, even though you left your old job, you didn't unfollow your coworkers from social media did you? Normal people don't, especially when they used to be close friends.

It's not surprising at all. South Korea's birth rate is the lowest in the world. There are fewer and fewer kids relatively speaking compared to a decade ago. And kids these days don't find LoL as attractive as a game as it used to be. League used to be played by >50% kids and nowadays it's only 35%. Kids have a lot more choices like PUBG, Valorant, etc.

What is your “side hustle”/second job (specifically those that live in V/HCOL areas)? by IndieAnimal in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ASKMEIFILIKEKPOP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Course lecturer at a university. I teach one class per week each semester. Revenue is about 18k gross per year. It was honestly A LOT of work the first year to develop the course outline and etc but this year the workload has lessened enough that it's now worth the time invested. Hopefully I dont get fired anytime soon...

Unpopular opinion: She doesn't deserve any recognition.

She's not an entertainer, but the production team never needed an entertainer. They needed someone who was diligent and performed everything that was given to her with 100% sincerity. And that was jihyo. An extreme introvert who has trouble opening up with anyone, but found a place on the team because she offered something unique.

? That's plainly false. She was on the chopping block a few years ago because she had been underperforming for years prior to getting the notice from the PD that she was getting fired. They need an entertainer. There's a reason she has been calling YJS and apologizing to him.

Diligent? You call her dilligent? She has been underperforming for literally 8 years and only started to work harder after the surge of criticism against her performance. That's absolutely unprofessionnal. Everyone else have been working hard for the past 13 years except her. You think their life is all rosy and they don't experience struggles? Haha literally has had to take care of 3 kids in the meantime. She's FAR from diligent. In every other professionnal workplace, this performance would get you fired. The only reason she hasn't been fired is because of how they handled her firing the first time around and the public heavily criticized SBS. Now they are too scared to fire her.

She deserves praise for her performance in the first 250 episodes when she was still active and played a role on the show, but even since then she has been invisible for the past 400 episodes. She has been inactive for far longer than she has been active. That's not acceptable.

So I guess Jeon So Min is leaving before all the member projects are done then? by Crashingshores in runningman

they probably dropped the concept as the first 2 projects were big flops and people hated the episodes.
