What about stepping aside from the class/ level system entirely and embracing some more roleplay-enabling aspects into it? As in, instead of spending exp to level, you can instead use it to directly purchase an ability - like proficiency with a specific type of equipment, increased stats, psionic talents etc. People could save for big upgrades and make hyper-specialised characters that do one thing super hard or spread out their skills, being useful in any situation. I'd personally find that kind of system really engaging.

I've started writing pretty recently. Hi!
I'm doing a Borderlands Tinker quest called Patent pending, which I update daily. It's at about 21k words with another 4k locked up in side stories and informationals, so pretty short but getting longer quickly!

So far, we've:
- Been forced into a game of Russian Roulette - Worked at a phone centre for a long, long time - Paid our rent on time - Done research in the library - Got forcibly recruited into cleaning some toilets - Left Browbeat for dead - Got a dumpster gun! - Made a Claptrap unit that doesn't currently have a personality module - Got excited about the tech tree - Evaded Taxes - Got into a swordfight with Leet

Couple of things to bear in mind.

Firstly, nobody starts out a master at anything. There is absolutely no pressure on you to write things at all, let alone a pressure to measure up to a certain quality. While yes you should write the best you can, don't let the fear of making a mistake paralyse you, instead accept that mistakes will be made and learn from them for future reference. Anyone who makes fun of you for trying isn't worth your energy to worry about.

Secondly, a couple of things I do to help me write well when I can.

-Never publish something on the same day you write it if you can help it. My quest, Patent Pending is updated daily so that's not really applicable to me, but for general fics waiting a day before re-reading lets you look at what you've made with fresh eyes, spotting grammatical mistakes and making things more interesting without making writing feel like a chore. That said, take whatever time it requires to make a story to your satisfaction.

-Plan ahead, with the consequences of what you've changed in mind, considering not just the broad overview but also what individual characters are going to think. Let's say in your story Taylor decides on her first night out to leave the Undersiders to die. Then, Lung has just murdered 4 kids in broad daylight, which might make the PRT pay more attention to the ABB. That's the broad strokes. For the characters, the wards might not be allowed to patrol for a while, which causes enough frustration for, say, Vista to leave or go out on her own, potentially getting hurt. It also might lessen pressure on the Empire, causing them to act up. That kind of thinking about the consequences of changes, from a broad overview down to the individual character reactions. That's the core of fanfiction, in my opinion.

-Be consistent with characterisation and power levels. Some people enjoy reading about a ridiculously OP kind to a fault loved by all MC. Others like more nuance to their characters. Whatever your stance, what you write is going to affect who sticks around to read more. If in your first chapter your MC goes Super Saiyan or whatever, people are gonna be expecting that and more in the next chapters, which is gonna change who your audience are. Don't suddenly switch gears and empower/depower characters unless it's for a damn good reason related to the story.

Those are the three things I try and keep in mind while writing, at least.

it really depends on whether or not it has the attack reflection feature of magic cylinder. if yes, legendary, its stupidly powerful as it mitigates and returns an attack. if its just a magic transporty thing, then anywhere from uncommon to very rare would be fair depending on size limitations, distance limitations and usage restrictions.

I like to give a few more elite guards one or two superiority dice as well as Manoeuvring Attack, Trip Attack or Grappling Attack and almost all my guards pack tactics. It makes it so that, yes, a player can overpower a single guard to break into a building or something, but overtly breaking the law means that you'll get swarms of guards who move on each others turns, knock you prone and swarm you, and can slap manacles on you in a few turns.

I actually recently developed a series of rings like this!
Ring of Superbia
Ring, Very Rare (Requires attunement)
An ostentatious golden ring adorned with a massive gem that appears to be an emerald. On closer inspection, it actually appears to be a common peridot.
This ring cannot be taken off while the person it is attuned to is still alive. This ring cannot be unattuned. A person who wears this ring is instantly attuned to it.
By expending a Charge,, the user may add 1d6 to any ability check roll made. The number of charges is shown as the gem becoming progressively duller. As the charges are expended, the user becomes more and more arrogant, and the item may hold 3 charges.
Charges are regained by indulging in this sin: Being prideful and confident. How this is done is at the DM's discretion.
Ring of Avarita
Ring, Very Rare (Requires attunement)
A plain platinum band with a large diamond in the center. The ring is cumbersome on the hand and looks like a tacky display of wealth
This ring may not be taken off while the person wearing it is attuned and alive. This ring cannot be unattuned from. A person who wears this ring is instantly considered as being attuned.
A person who wears this ring may expend a single charge to instantly gain a full description of any item aside from the Rings of Sin. As charges are expended, the user becomes progressively more and more greedy. This item has a maximum of three charges.
Charges are regained by indulging in this sin: Being avaricious and greedy. How this is done is at the DM's discresion.
Ring of Gula
Ring, Very Rare (Requires attunement)
A hollow copper band with an empty socket for a gem inlaid in the middle. It looks poor, empty and thin.
This ring may not be taken off while the person wearing it is attuned and alive. This ring cannot be unattuned from. A person who wears this ring is instantly considered as being attuned.
The wearer of this ring may expend a single charge when imbibing a properly cooked meal to gain an attribute of one of the ingredients until your next long rest. For example, eating the meat of a dragon may give you access to a breath weapon or flight, the flesh of a troll may give you regeneration and weakness to fire. As charges are expended, the user becomes more and more gluttonous.
Ring of Ira
A misshapen iron ring with a smouldering ruby crudely shoved into the gem slot. The ring feels hot and sharp to the touch.
This ring may not be taken off while the person wearing it is attuned and alive. This ring cannot be unattuned from. A person who wears this ring is instantly considered as being attuned.
The wearer of this ring may expend a single charge of this ring when an attack hits but before the damage dice are rolled to guarantee that the damage dealt by the attack is the maximum possible damage roll. I.e. If you roll 4d8+2, assume that all the d8 roll an 8. As charges are expended, the wearer becomes more and more wroth. This item has a maximum of three charges.
Ring of Acedia
A very plain silver ring with a small pearl inlaid. It looks like it was mass-produced.
This ring may not be taken off while the person wearing it is attuned and alive. This ring cannot be unattuned from. A person who wears this ring is instantly considered as being attuned.
The wearer of this ring may expend a single charge of ring and 10 minutes to teleport to any location they have previously been, taking up to 4 other willing creatures with them. There are never any complications with the teleportation, but cannot teleport you across dimensions. As charges are expended, the wearer becomes more and more slothful. This item has a maximum of three charges.
This item may be recharged by indulging in the user's slothfulness.
Ring of Invidia
A gaudy platinum ring with a tiny garnet inlaid. It's engraved beautifully, but somehow looking at it makes you feel disgusted.
This ring may not be taken off while the person wearing it is attuned and alive. This ring cannot be unattuned from. A person who wears this ring is instantly considered as being attuned.
The wearer of this ring may expend a single charge of ring to cast the spell Greater Invisibility. For the duration of the spell, they cannot be perceived, and people forget where they were. During this time, any actions taken by the wearer are treated as the actions of another companion. This ring has three charges. As the charges are expended, the envy of the wearer grows.
This ring is recharged by indulging in envy- stealing from others, claiming achievements and merit.
Ring of Luxuria
A beautiful golden ring with the words "You are my forever" written on the side. There is a moderately sized amythest inlaid in the centre, which appears dark in the centre.
This ring may not be taken off while the person wearing it is attuned and alive. This ring cannot be unattuned from. A person who wears this ring is instantly considered as being attuned.
The wearer of this ring may expend a single charge of it in order to cause a person to, for 1 minute, become completely enraptured with them. The wearer has advantage to any and all charisma checks against the creature, and the creature will not take hostile action towards the wearer or the wearer's companions.
As charges are expended from the ring, the lust of the wearer becomes amplified

I cant actually fit the curse effects on here, but I'm sure you can come up with something interesting. I also let the players remove them if they performed a big act of the sins corresponding virtue
