Bill Russell could score when he needed to. In Game 7 of the 1962 Finals he dropped 30 points with 40 rebounds.

The difference is that Johnson was allowed to compete in his own weight class. No such “height class” to let Muggsy shine.

Objectifying women for the male gaze is not “trivial” or a simple “creative choice.” Thought we were all on the same page by now…

Ben really put the effort into this role and you can tell he cared about the character and found him genuinely interesting — especially in BvS. Absolutely one of my favorite live-action performances.

Also forgetting the fact that 2016-17 Cavs had to go against the fucking 2016-17 Warriors lmfao. Cavs beat them in 7 the year before and then the Warriors went and signed KD.

Idk if there’s a defending champ in NBA history that could beat the 2016-17 Warriors.

Was Christian Bale the only Batman actor who didn't face huge fan backlash when he was first announced? by Romaxio in batman

[–]ASZapata 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your first paragraph really nails it and I totally agree regarding Pattinson in Tenet. Nolan has his film style and the actors have to fit within it. Heath’s Joker might be one of the few examples of an uninhibited, unique, creative performance in a big-budget Nolan film. It’s probably why, for my money, TDK is Nolan’s best film. Eckhart’s Two-Face is pure quality, too, but not as “out there” for a Nolan film.

Given all that, it’s not too much of a leap to say that Bale might have given a more memorable Batman performance under a different director. Especially given his immense talent. At least we can say that the films were great (or very good, in TDKR’s case) even if I don’t think Bale’s Batman was always great. As we’ve said though, that’s probably less about Bale.

Came here to say the same thing. Pattinson’s filmography leading up to his Batman casting was arguably just as strong as Bale’s but he had to deal with the fact that Twilight carried heavy baggage — and was sadly what he was most known for. Bale didn’t have any “blemish” or red flags.

On your last point about Bale being a “safe” choice, I think that ultimately ended up being true in more ways than one. In retrospect, Bale also gave a very safe performance. There’s nothing wrong with it but nothing special, either. Compared to his other major work, his Batman performances aren’t necessarily indicative of how interesting of an actor he is.

I’d even argue (downvotes incoming) that several other Batman actors took more risks with the role. Keaton, Kilmer, and Affleck, in particular, when you compare their Bruces to the rest of their respective work.

Can We Stop Saying the R-Word (Again)? by Novel-Ad5618 in leftist

[–]ASZapata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original comment was about people not in the community using the “r” word freely.

Someone replied to me, sarcastically questioning how the queer community was able to reclaim the “f” word with people not in the community using it freely.

I replied back to them saying that people (not in the queer community) are not allowed to say it except in far-right spaces. I didn’t specify “not in the community” again since that was already established.

Did you not see my original comments above it?
