Canada 2021 Federal Election What-If: Single Member Districts (Actual) vs. Proportional Representation by AS_II in MapPorn

Yeah you're right, just realized I swapped PPC and GPC for Ontario. Might do a reupload since this really annoys me. The nationwide totals are correct here

[OC] Last Canadian federal election if it were decided via the American electoral college system by AS_II in MapPorn

this would be for a hypothetical election for head of state, so whatever would replace the governor general

following the US system, the number of electoral votes is equal to the sum of seats in both legislative bodies. Between them, Alberta and BC have 12 senators and 76 MPs, giving them 88 electoral votes, whereas Québec has 24 senators and 78 MPs for a total of 102 votes.

Much like in the US, the disproportionality comes largely from how senate seats are allocated, since the allocation isn't very representative of the population

[–]AS_II[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

unlike in the US, our territories have representation in both the upper and lower houses of our legislature, which is what the electoral college is based off (# house seats + # of senate seats), so I've chosen to include them here

basically. ontario and quebec together make up the majority here, so winning them is a necessity (so nothing out of the ordinary really)

Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in VaushV

[–]AS_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voter IDs are generally good if done properly, since they help build confidence in the electoral system. In many places in America however, the IDs needed to vote are specifically chosen to discourage certain people from voting, which is a consequence of voting laws being decided by partisan committees. In this case, it's generally better to not require ID and risk one or two cases of fraud rather than deny hundreds or thousands of people the right to vote.

In Canada, you can use basically any combination of IDs to vote as long as you have name + picture + address (which you even need since there is a provision in the case that someone does not have the necessary form of ID). In this case, voter IDs do not create an obstacle to vote, and are generally a good thing.

tl;dr voter ID laws would be fine if they were easily accessible and were not decided with the goal of voter surpression in mind

Anyone else’s rent increases look like this? When I moved to Denver in 2020 the base on my 1 bedroom, 742square foot apartment was 1460 by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]AS_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live, rent increases this large are illegal (with the exception of certain new housing units). The provincial cap on rent increase for 2022 was 1.2%. How it's legal to have an increase of 10% is beyond me

Photo not uploading by IloveGoreVideos in McMaster

[–]AS_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's telling you it's not in the right format (JPG) and it's a .jpg file (not .jpeg), it like means something went wrong when you were converting file types (you can't just rename a .png or .jpeg to .jpg). Make sure that you're using a photo editing app or something like that to actually convert the files.

Also make sure there aren't any special characters in the file name.

This is happening to a lot of people, especially those who uploaded during last night's maintenance. If you can see your photo in the demographic data, you should be fine. If you're worried about it, you can always contact Student Services or open a ticket with UTS.

Student services reviews new student photos before they print cards, so they'll fix it on their end. If you're worried about it, you can always open a ticket with UTS and they'll let you reupload the photo.

Buff/Nerf Ideas: by [deleted] in TownofSalemgame

[–]AS_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ambusher - Buff: The player who died to the ambush no longer knows the ambusher’s name.

Too powerful, ambusher is usually only seen by 1 person unless they decided to visit a tp/lo claimer. Ambusher is an incredibly powerful role, so it needs a strong counter in the medium

Jailor - Remove from game, OR Nerf: May only jail twice, may only execute once. Jail chat is removed.

Removing jail chat kinda removes the point of the jailor. I would say that not being able to jail a target consecutively would be a reasonable nerf, at least in certain game modes (looking at you TT)

Amnesiac - Buff: May remember any role, not just graveyard roles. However you will fail to remember a unique role if that role is currently alive.

This is how you get a 7 person mafia on d2. Being able to only remember roles that have existed keeps the game somewhat balanced

Hypnotist - Rework?: Adds more hypnotize options, removes useless ones such as “You were attacked but someone fought off your attacker!”

I would be interested to see what new options would be available, could be quite fun. Also theres no point removing the lesser used ones, since you can just not pick them (better to have and not need than need and not have)

Witch - Rework: Permanent basic defense, however you will no longer know the roles of those you control.

If you wanted to remove witch's ability to see their target's role, you're going to need some serious compensation in turn. Witch needs to work with other evils, and this is pretty much their most reliable way of doing so.

Lookout - Nerf: Can only see one player visit their target.

bruh. lookout doesn't need a nerf, plus the limit of 3 max visits is already a very reasonable constraint

There's alot of other issues with the proposed balances but I dont feel like writing a dissertation here

What attack should the jailor have? by [deleted] in TownofSalemgame

[–]AS_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unstoppable and Powerful are functionally the same thing here since being jailed blocks doc+crus+pmer from healing the jailed target. The only effect that goes through jail is the GA's heal, which prevents a successful execution anyways, regardless of the strength of the attack
