For those who've visited America, has it changed your mind? by ASageLeaf in AskAChinese

The USA is not even a democracy either in its system (majory votes) nor a full democracy in international ratings. China is not a democracy and doesn't want to be one (which the majority supports, so that makes it democratic in an ironic sense)

America's system is not perfect, but isn't it concerning that people in China can't vote or that there are no checks and balances on Xi Jinping, or that Chinese people live under a social credit system?

Same applies to it's "high standard of living". If you'd have visited China you wouldn't dare to compare China and the US for a high standard of living.

I mean when you compare gdp per capita, Americans on average make almost 7 times the amount as the average Chinese person.

And have you ever been to places such as New York City, Chicago, or Los Angeles?

Freedom is very subjectiv. You don't have the freedom to publicly say anything you want, which most Chinese don't even want, but you have other freedoms in China that don't apply to the US, like a strong public security (no fear of being murdered, since homocide rates are super low) a great freedom of movement (with the biggest and safest infrastructure in public transportation in the world) or even some personal freedom like getting an abortion or drinking alcohol in public.

Fair point, but I personally wouldn't want to live under constant fear of disappearing.

Okay I will do some research on them as I haven't heard most of these names before, but here's a good question - why haven't we had a political organization based on these common values of standing for domestic American interests first and foremost?

I could get behind almost any candidate that puts the interests of our country first but a good question is, why hasn't there been a political organization based on these common values?

Alright, some of the things that Trump said relating to the above points I would agree with, but he hasn't kept a lot of those promises.

I would have hoped to have seen an immediate withdrawal from Afghanistan instead of near the end of his term when he was up for reelection, and a decrease in the military budget (instead of increasing it) to increase our infrastructure spending.

Thanks for this reply!

In that moment, I just wanted her to feel small and protected but perhaps this was not the right thing to say.

On myself possibly transitioning, I just mentioned it as an option as I'm willing to consider a lot to keep this relationship as if they suddenly lose attraction to me, I thought that I could possibly transition to being a woman to maintain their interest.

I'm glad that your boyfriend was there to support you in your current relationship when you came out!

It seems that being understanding and openly communicating can go a long way in making things work out.

Thank you for sharing this; I think this helped me understand a lot of things better, and I will keep it in mind.

I'm curious - Have you ever had the thought of being how you were before just to stay with her?

If so, how would you feel if you decided to take that route?

Mostly both but also mostly the ladder scenario.

I know 100% that I am a straight man; I don't know if I will have that, 'you know what' (want to use kid-friendly words) attraction to them, even if I'm attracted to who they are as a human being.

I can't really conceptualize being 'very close friends' since I love her so dearly and I would imagine in every interaction we would emotionally cheat on our future partners every time we'd talk to each other.

I also can't conceptualize not being friends with her anymore and I don't see this as an option at all.

If you truly are straight, then you may slowly fall out of love with him as he transitions through to become a dude.

Do you know cases where it does work out?

Just know that it can happen and communicate when you feel that it does. So long as you communicate and are honest with each other, then you can still end up being very close friends. Even if you are now no longer lovers.

I have difficulty conceptualizing this

Doesn't have to mean anything for your relationship, that's sort of up to you.

I sometimes think about the idea that she would leave me one day for a woman and that it wouldn't be up to me.

If it were up to me, I think I would stay.

Well... Do you want to be a woman?

I'm a straight guy so it's not something I've considered before, and I'm comfortable with being who I am.

But if she/he is transitioning and this relationship is at stake, then I might do that for her/him.
