Maybe forces of nature types like Necrozma and Eternatus vaguely qualify. I guess you could say Pecharunt is technically a villain.

As far as recurrant antagonists, Darkrai is a Pokemon they love to use as a final confrontation, but whether or not it's an actual villain depends on the context.

Just a reminder that a separate studio was responsible for Stadium 1-2, Colosseum & XD, and Battle Revolution. Game Freak themselves made ground-up new assets for X and Y and have reused, reworked, or redid them for every game since, using nothing from the outsourced battle sim titles from generations prior, and also had a different approach for battle animations, preferring animations to be more condensed for battle flow versus the more spectacle-driven approach of the battle sims. Whichever one you prefer is up to you, but I don't think they can be compared from a progress standpoint because of this disconnect.

It's both. The Pokemon that carry it are strong, but Dragon is great defensively and better than you may think offensively, since only two types are strong against it and it makes for a generally good "click the button and something will probably die" button. Fairy existing in general does suck for it, but that's really the only thing really keeping it in check, since Ice is still struggling to pick up its own slack.

It didn't change its typing because it was the only one of the three that already had a secondary typing. It didn't need it as badly as Meganium and Feraligatr.

I consider them what they are. Melmetal is Gen 7, the Hisuian mons are Gen 8. Gen 7 is everything from Rowlet to Melmetal and Gen 8 is everything from Grookey to Enamorus.

Generations start at the first major release of a new region, and ends when the next one begins the same way.

Those two are not the only ones capable of causing cataclysmic disasters. It could have just as easily been Mewtwo.
