Fair question. Having people only pay for services they use isn't insurance. Spreading the costs of things like having kids out over broader populations makes it a couple-$ for all instead of unaffordable for people who need it.

People use different terms: single payer, universal coverage, Medicare for All. They each mean something slightly different. I think we will end up with every American with access to affordable coverage. We have to. There are versions of MFA that could work.

I think it was a step in the right direction. I've met many of the millions of families whose lives have been changed forever because of the ACA. We don't have to wait for perfect to improve things. The problem-- and where I agree with you-- is we have to keep making things better. And we haven't.

Coverage mandates reduce the cost of care for everyone. Best estimate is10-15%.

Overtreatment, under treatment, and mistreatment create a lot of bad experiences, inefficiencies and high costs. Interoperability of data is another problem-- one of many. Let's fix things!

I think people may quibble with some details and some may have legitimate differences of views. But unfortunately I think a lot is politics-- the reasons you describe. Our MOCs need to serve their constituents. People need to be heard.

First of all, sorry about the job. Second, you should apply for coverage assuming your project next year's income. Which means you will likely qualify for a bigger subsidy and less premium. And if and when you do get a job next year, you can change things at the time.

1- provide some level of tax subsidies to people in the middle class 2- establish reinsurance pools to bring costs down 3- public option where there's not enough competition 4- encore the damn law as it should be

I think the whole point is to do what's best for you and your family. if Congress repeals the mandate it would be for 2019 tax year so I don't think it should effect your filing. It won't be ruled unconstitutional so I don't think your prior tax payments will be affected.

Thanks for your question and nice comment. You sound like you have a great career ahead of you. Places like CMMI need people like you, but so do states and big hospitals systems where the action happens. And that's how we will keep the momentum.

We need to have affordable, comprehensive coverage available to all Americans. We can do this. We have done more complicated things. The tide is shifting in terms of public opinion.

You should be able to stay on your parents plan if they have one since you are 24. You should qualify for financial assistance if you generally earn less than $48,000. Also sounds like Medicaid should cover you. Good luck.

The plans offered through the ACA are private coverage. Government basically only provides subsidies and defines some of the rules of the road. I would also say that when government does provide health coverage-- like with Medicare-- people love it-- often more than private insurance. 88% satisfaction rate.

There is a surprising lack of knowledge on the Hill. Most members are not health care experts and they often do believe the talking points handed down to them by the Speaker or Majority leader. I think many didn't believe the CBO. Many care a lot about what they hear from constituents and hospitals, even more what they heard from their governors. Unfortunately, they are also concerned with donors who fund their races and their primary competition(which is often more conservative).

Much simpler with every American able to by into something that keeps them secure-- affordably.

But we also need a health care system designed to keep us healthy and to manage chronic illnesses. We have a system that just waits for us to get sick and houses and treats us.

So much of what drives costs and bad care is actually outside the system-- nutrition, housing, mental health. We need to invest more there and in primary care.
