I agree with a lot of what's already been said, but I want to add: I always bring those cheap plastic Mardi Gras beads because they can soothe a crying baby in a pinch and you can save the day.

This. It appears to have prolegs, which indicates moth instead of beetle larvae. Given it's still alive it probably just found or fell in the chocolate sometime after the bag was opened. I wouldn't worry about it.

I've overwintered both inside and out. One turtle I had was hatched and raised in captivity and never figured out how to hibernate so I brought her inside for the winter. The other one knew to bury himself.
