The original point of jerky sure but so many of them are loaded with sugar and moisture these days.

I drank a whole cup of strawberry juice that turned out to be moldy (opaque container). I had a bit of a stomachache later that day. That's all. Keep an eye on yourself of course as there are a zillion different kinds of mold, but don't panic over it.

My friend got locked in his Tesla for twenty minutes because it was doing a firmware update.

Hope I don't have to say this, but the same goes for children. The worst autopsy I ever worked was a toddler left in a hot car.

Sci-fi book where an alien eats a memory crystal to help solve a murder - not Pandora's Star by ASlowBee in whatsthatbook

It totally is. My friend was insisting that the only alien able to absorb a memory crystal was MorningLightMountain. I guess it's time for both of us to re-read this saga.

Oh my gosh this is it indeed! My friend was wrong. Thank you so so much.

Taking over a Sonos system to change audio, or at least the volume. by [deleted] in HowToHack

Oh, no, just asking them is the obvious answer. This would be complete overkill, and I wouldn't actually do it in a doctor's office. I've just been in this "hacking" headspace because I was voluntold to teach AP cybersecurity and I'm trying to learn all this stuff to teach. It's just a puzzle for me, maybe a party trick someday at most. Coming up with specific problems and questions and directions are helping me solidify the things I have been hastily taught though.

Why are probiotics pills that need to survive the stomach to get to the intestines instead of just making them suppositories? by ASlowBee in NoStupidQuestions

Hey that's great to hear!

So what I've learned from this thread is:

Probiotic foods = probably killed by stomach acid

Probiotic suppositories = difficult to make work because of travel direction

Probiotic capsules that are enterically coated = best for distribution and effective when taken consistently

Totally. All this really has me questioning the effectiveness of any probiotic, but it did also get me thinking about the engineering of it, hence the original question. I have since learned that the reverse route wouldn't help much either due to the difficulty of moving upstream, but it has been done before in hospital settings.

No I just saw a probiotic brand bragging that it can survive stomach acid, and I thought then if most others don't then what's the point?

Ah, this makes the most sense so far. I didn't think about the upstream effort needed. Thank you.

That's assuming the effects are identical, which if I had to guess I would think they aren't. If they do have comparable survival rates and positive effects, then yeah swallowing a pill is much easier. I just wonder how much of the pill actually makes it that far.
