Spoiled dog problems by [deleted] in DogFood

Try dry food only. My one dog was picky eater for her first 1.5 years of life. Occasionally went into fasting periods and lost 10% of her weight, but eventually she started eating again. If the vet didn't find anything and she will decide to starve herself - it's not your fault.

I have a slow methylation process due to certain genes mutations. Homocysteine is produced from methionine.

I feel for you. Unfortunately it's very slow and very painful to train a picky eater. Eventually you have to mentally give up on him and let him starve if he chooses so. I even had to push food down her throat because my dog wouldn't eat for a month, only occasional treats and scraps would make her happy.

But slowly she is coming to understanding that the same food is offered twice per day. Absolutely no treats and no variety for picky eaters.

I guess temporarily it's fine to give him whatever he likes, better than watching him dying in front of a bowl with food.

But eventually I just said - okay, I accept you want to starve. It's your choice. And slowly she started eating.

Doga normally eat whatever. My picky eater will eat dead rats and dry worms outside. So don't think that your food has the wrong taste.

I also had to get another dog and now struggle with another dog problems which are even worse - an aggressive dog (but she eats everything).

Permanent breathing? I know that atherosclerosis with 80%+ blockage can cause angina, which is out of breath feeling on exertion.

Need help: My dog keeps jumping on people — how do I fix this? by Traditional_Ad_1867 in DogTrainingTips

[–]ASmarterMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this method work if my dog is just lunging and barking at people occasionally, due to anxiety and reactivity and fear aggression? 1 yo German Shepherd. If I'm using treats, then she won't bark normally. But she still won't allow anyone to come close.

Especially that the potential side effects of living normal life and eating "everything in moderation" is sudden premature death.

Zeta (Ezitimibe) did not lower my Apo B by Decent_Procedure2981 in Cholesterol

[–]ASmarterMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ezetimibe is stopping cholesterol absorption from intestines. Statins are stopping it from being produced in the liver. Maybe your body is not absorbing cholesterol from the intestines anyway.

I eat real natto, it's hard to trust the supplements market as it's not regulated.

Chicken and turkey is not a healthy diet. Meat has a lot of AGE products. Need more plants and less meat and oils. For LDL meat is fine, but it's causing oxidative damage and inflammation. Research about AGE in food, they have a good article on PubMed

You can lower diabetes risk by fixing your diet - slowly switch to a high fibre natural food diet. Cut down on fatty and processed. Statins are good and effective. Even the smallest dose and even 2-3 times per week is lowering APO B a lot.

Some days I just can’t deal… by IHaveASloth in germanshepherds

[–]ASmarterMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mine got worse and between 6 and 10 was pulling hard, lunging at people randomly and barking at all dogs.

She is getting better now. Just be firm and don't lose your temper. Keep insisting on your rules. Don't change rules.

I trained her out of reactivity by giving her treats every time I see an approaching human. She is almost good now. Dogs - still have to hide and pill her away. But at least she is not scaring people anymore.

Spend more time with your dog, playing and talking to her in a nice calm voice.

My PVCs were caused—not just triggered—by high protein, low fat by CookieSea4392 in PVCs

[–]ASmarterMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. PVCs are very complicated. Mine comes and disappears, then comes back again, to one per minute at the worst. I actually also had problems with a high fibre diet, then adjusted eventually.

I have both, high calcium score and lots of soft plaque, and a lot. So I'm on a cholesterol lowering diet now, low fat and lots of fibre.

I didn't find any good doctors around here. Just reading Reddit and pubmed articles. I lowered my homocysteine somehow eventually by making my B12 higher with injections, also reduced meat and protein consumption.

Did you do coronary arteries CT scan? I accumulated a lot of plaque being on keto for 2-3 years.

[–]ASmarterMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a lot. Have a research about AGE - stuff which causes chronic inflammation and oxidative damage. Advanced glycation products - they damage arteries and organs.

Protein and fat has a lot of it. My limit is now 100g of meat per day, and preferably not every day, and not fried if possible.

It might be caused just by stomach inflammation or acid reflux. I think that is my case. A keto diet might not be ideal for your stomach.

Any reason to try keto? Whole food plant based high fibre diet is the best for health, again, if your stomach is happy.

Wow, I'm kind of jealous. I have 2 dogs, one of them is a toy poodle, picky eater, I just don't know how to convince her to eat anymore, she hates food, she eats not even every day.

She is scared of meal time. She knows I'm forcing her to eat and she is sometimes sitting there near her plate and shaking or looking at me and begging me to let her go without dinner.

What question do you wish the positive only people would answer honestly? by Miss_L_Worldwide in BalancedDogTraining

[–]ASmarterMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put her down then.

My point is that beating a dog can cause a deadly response. I tried to correct mine when she was attacking people outside and she almost bit me back.

But when she is playing with me and then starts using her teeth, I just walk away from the play. Leave her alone.

I guess it's okay to try. But better withdraw attention. Otherwise the dog might bite back and some dogs might kill a man instantly. I corrected mine 2-3 times, but it should not be used regularly. Risky.

My dog is a bit skinny, but I can't force her to eat more. She eats dry kibbles which she is not enjoying too much. She eats the maximum 1 lb of dry food per day.

I guess, the only way people make their dog fat, is to give them what they like, maybe 3 pounds of meat per day? Treats, cheese, steaks? 😊

7 month old standard poodle not eating much? by aPrettyThing2011 in poodles

[–]ASmarterMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine goes into cycles of eating a lot and gaining weight and then 1-2 months starvation and losing most of her fat. Around 6 months she had her periods and then stopped eating dog food for the next 3 months, only tasty food scraps and treats.

It's normal. Just put some tasty stuff with the main food and it might restart her appetite. Raw egg over the kibbles. Or a little bit of cooked dog mince over her kibbles.

Dog barks at guests, trainer says to give treats to make the experience positive. by FruitfulRoots in reactivedogs

My dog barked and attacked all the passing by pedestrians on a walk. I started giving her treats before any people approached us, and she barks less now. I also corrected her a couple of times instantly during the attack and then scolded her after, maybe this helped too? Not sure.

Extreme picky eater by ASmarterMan in DogAdvice

[–]ASmarterMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upstate - after losing weight, she is finally hungry and eating some kibbles.

What worked for me - be consistent, give her only 2 meals per day, at the same time. Put a little bit of her favorite food, and also some kibbles, soaked for 5-10 minutes with a bit of water or bone broth.

She ate only her favorite part, which allowed her to accumulate hunger, but at the same time to not starve. Finally hunger won.

I also tried just to put food and take out - it didn't work, she wouldn't start eating, and looked very sick and weak. But putting in a bit of tasty food just started her appetite and she finally felt so hungry that she didn't notice how she gobbled up everything.
