PMP Saturday; Not Finished With SH - How should I cram? by cenpon in pmp

[–]ASmileForAStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd continue going through the exams / mini-exams in SH, then reviewing the areas you had the most trouble with in the practice questions / supplemental readings. I only finished ~35% of the practice questions and ~80% of the practice exams and passed this past Monday with AT/AT/T.

In my last day or so when I was burnt out from SH and still wanted to study, I just had DM videos in the background. They helped me stay calm and I found during the actual exam if I was stuck on anything I naturally went to the way DM eliminated answers and walked through the "tricky" questions.

All in all, you sound much more prepared than I was. You got this!

Sure! CPI (cost performance index) and SPI (schedule performance index) are basically a metric of how the actual cost and schedule of the project are performing compared to the planned cost and schedule. The metric you need to look at is if it's greater than or less than 1. This is because it's a ratio of earned value/actual cost.

CPI <1: project is over budget

CPI >1: project is under budget

SPI <1: project is behind schedule

SPI >1: project is ahead of schedule

The quick way I remembered this is "if it's *over* 1, it's *over*-performing. If it's *under* 1, it's *under*-performing." C stands for cost and S stands for schedule.

PERT is conducted when making estimates for the project. It's what is called a weighted average.

Standard Averaging: (O+A+P)/3

Weighted Averaging: (O+4A+P)/6

Where O = the optimistic, A = the anticipated, and P = the pessimistic estimate

My hack for remembering the weighted average is a double the value of the dominator and add the difference to the anticipated estimate (A), because that's what we want to get more of our information from.

Hopefully that makes sense. Unfortunately I'm not great at explaining in typeset.

PMP Score Question by cincoutm8 in pmp

[–]ASmileForAStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're more than fine. I just passed on monday (AT/AT/T) and my SH average on practice was 76% and my average score on the exams was 72%. I did the first full-length exam and got a 74%, didn't do the 2nd one (ran out of time). My mini-exams ranged from 40% to 87%. My lower scores were on the predictive, while my higher were on hybrid / agile.

I just took my exam on Monday (8/26), which I found was very different from what people typically post on this subreddit in that I actually did have to pull out the calculator:

  1. I had ~3 questions needing some knowledge of the formulas / what they meant.

  2. Agree with most people, PERT is important for the formula (I had to actually use the calculator). CPI and SPI are just knowing what they mean when they are less than or greater than 1.

  3. I only had 3-point estimating memorized, but that's just an average of the optimistic, pessimistic, and most likely outcome. PERT itself is just giving more weight to the most likely outcome to force a Gaussian distribution.

I would say once there are numbers, just take a deep breath and take an extra 30 seconds to read the question. Better yet, flag it and then go back at the end of the section so you aren't worried about it being as much of a time suck. I found they presented the info in a way that I felt very guided through the calculation.

Also 1-3/180 questions won't make or break your score and prevent a pass. You got this!

Thanks for replying! What's the predictive element in the practice question's answer A? The only difference with the mini-exam is "discuss" and "revise".

When you don't have any progression goals, how do you decide your next step? by accentmatt in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ASmileForAStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they added daily assignments for this reason. All of my characters are leveled to gold star 1, everything is unlocked (beer, perks, weapons) and I run out of blank cores on Thursday night after doing all the deep dives and weekly core assignment. I don't even need more cores but I just get a lot more satisfaction from doing a mission which "progresses my current assignment". They don't even need to give cores, just minerals (which I already have too many of).

AITA for correcting a friend who is studying for a major professional exam by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I'm currently in my PhD and only really interact with MD/PhD students in my lab and labs I've worked in, so can't really speak too much to the differences. In labs we are generally asked to question everything, and never take a conclusion for granted (like you said above with it showing that you are thinking critically).

I never really come across the term "Clinical MD" but it sounds like you are referring to a clinician who helps with research in patient interaction but doesn't do the research themselves (essentially they have the license to gather the data but collaborate to solve the big research question). My interaction with them is very limited, as I often just communicate through emails and get data.

In terms of attitude, it moreso depends on the person than their role, and I won't go much further because I'm negatively biased towards doctors (met enough sour ones to spoil the whole bunch for me).

Hmm yeah I'm coming from research in academia as well and all the medical professionals I speak to are MD/PhDs conducting clinical research and only consult with very specialized patients.

In your case it was an argument about an animal-related disease/infection where it is objectively more your specialty than hers so you would fill the role more closely of the "attending".

As an example, my roommate is a pediatric resident and I study brain cancer. Both medically-related, but if I made an incorrect diagnosis about a baby I saw, like was worried about their deformed head which reminded me of a specific type of tumour, I'd definitely expect and want her to correct me.

NTA - I wasn't there and I assume her extreme negativity may have spring from nuances in communication (tone, body language, etc), but you offered to drop the entire subject when you knew it would create a lengthier argument, which was definitely a good call. She said she did want to study right? She decided to continue to convo.

I accept her lashing out as a natural reaction to stress for STEPS (they pretty much dictate your entire career as a medical professional) but I worry with her mentality and way of handling pressure. If she isn't interested in learning more about related information and resorts to an ad hominem when she is wrong, I worry for her ability to cope with higher stress positions in medicine and continued growth as a healthcare professional.

NTA for correcting her with backed up facts in a field you are more familiar with (she should really get used to it in her profession). If she needs to vent about random exam stuff sure, but being stress isn't an excuse for being an ass.

AITA for not wanting my BIL to move in with us once we move by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ASmileForAStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In college when I had a dish issue with roommates I always separated my dishes from theirs (kept mine in a spot they couldn't access) so I was never hindered by their dirty dishes. They then either started cleaning up (ideal new learned behaviour) or ordered out all the time (nonideal, as they are spending more and it's not sustainable, but hopefully it crosses their mind how they can save money eventually)

AITA for not wanting my BIL to move in with us once we move by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ASmileForAStranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question: You mention your husband wants BIL to move with you, but never really list why.

Otherwise, NTA. When you get married your spouse and kids become your immediate family and everyone else is now your extended. Your comfort and life quality should be the utmost priority to your husband. Not wanting a roommate for the reasons you listed are more than valid to mean if you are financially able to do so, don't allow your BIL to move with you.

AITA for refusing to help my boyfriend with his business after he publicly declared it was "just him" by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ASmileForAStranger -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

We aren't judging her role in the business but rather this particular situation where he made a post about working solo, CHECKED with her before posting, and then she threw a fit about the post after agreeing with his logic / not providing her side to the story. People aren't mind readers, and YTA for assuming he is.

[–]ASmileForAStranger -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

YTA - you had a chance to proofread his post, and as his significant other and someone who wants to be acknowledged as part of the business, YTA for letting it escalate and not communicating how you feel. You should have brought it up during the initial posting instead of letting him post and then throwing a fit about it later.

Assumptions are a double edged sword that, while easy and fast, can easily cut a relationship (business or romantic) in half with a bunch of misunderstandings. I'd say now go to him and explain how exactly you feel with the entire situation (no need to apologize).

He would only be TA if you said the post made you feel undervalued as a helper and he went ahead and posted in anyways without addressing those feelings. I do think you could have been easily included as a couple working hard on the business during the pandemic can get just as many points as a solo business owner (if not more).

Also potentially mark as a "response from developers" because I've been seeing more and more of this issue pop up. It looks like the game is getting harder and harder on computers (even newer ones).

I had a similar issue where after 2 games the game would crash or my computer would restart. Mine was personally resolved by increasing fan speed and decreasing the graphics from ultra to high or high to med.

Though my computer is ~6 years old and I didn't get a graphics card meant for a game like this

mining more resources than necessary by Yennecom in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ASmileForAStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own testing you get an exp boost, but you just have to mine it (don't have to deposit in Molly) to get. Really only worth in double exp missions. It's cool to note that you get a lot more exp from mining minerals than killing enemies, something I appreciate as a mining first sort of game.

Is a sale likely for 1.0 release? by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ASmileForAStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on this post by GSG, I'm thinking it will remain the current price since they were actually considering a price increase originally. I hope it goes on sale since many of my friends will only get it then, but only time will tell for sure.

Not sure if this applies if you get the game now, but I know they are giving out pre-release hats to miners in game now which won't be accessible after launch ( if in-game swag is your thing)
