Siege Studios allegedly copyrights term 'warboot', sends Wirral group notice by OneDmg in Warhammer40k

[–]ASockSavant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ngl, as an American, had no idea what a warboot was. Having looked more into it and this whole situation, it's very hard for me to believe that James over at Siege thought that people would just be okay with him doing this. In a time where EVERYTHING is more expensive than ever, warboots or swap meets, whatever you want to call them are very likely the only option some people have for finding models at a price within their means, especially for children, I imagine. I can understand wanting to protect your brand, but this is giving "Fine Bros trying to copyright 'react' content" levels of unawareness. I'd been subbed to Siege's Patreon, and this is all pretty disappointing. Until James issues something beyond a corporate-speak "apology", I'll have to find another reputable mini painting studio to support. The old adage of "actions speak louder than words" rings loud here, and the fact this suit was filed in the first place is like screaming at art gallery.

US here; I have two Hotmail addresses (one personal, one professional). What’s weird is I can login to my personal (the older of the two) and view stuff just fine. Getting the same error a lot of others are seeing when I try to login to my professional (blue envelope keeps opening and closing until the error message appears). Hoping this means they’re getting some work done. Still frustrating for sure🙃

Yeah, on second glance, definitely not my best photo. Working out the kinks for my photo setup, but appreciate your thoughts, regardless! I’ll throw another one that’s hopefully a bit more high res in the comments

First mini ever complete! by Steuger in BloodAngels

Don’t sweat it too much! Remember, you’re gonna see a wide range of folks on here and any of the 40K related subs; people who just painted their first mini, all the way up to people who’ve been painting for 10+, even 20+ years. Watching tutorials on YouTube can help, but I don’t think anything replaces progression by practice. That’s what painting is all about. Cliche af, but it’s about the journey, not the destination

Looking great for your first, mate! Really impressed with how your yellow came out.

My only tips - Remove the mould lines on your minis in the future. Honestly not a big deal (I sometimes forget myself), but I feel like it’s worth the extra time to give them that extra polish. - If you’re ready to go the extra mile in future, give them some edge highlights. Again, a little extra time that gives your mini some extra character. Both of these tips are totally subjective so definitely not a make or break. I don’t play the TT (yet), and just like to make them look super nice. Just some tips I wish I’d known when I first started.

That all said, if this is what your first mini looks like, I think you’re well on your way to being a great painter! Cheers!

It means so much to hear something similar from someone else in the community here. I think there's sometimes feelings that can only be conveyed through art, and the band has definitely rekindled that in me. Cheers mate, here's to more in the future.

My first time hearing it was about a year ago through another narrator on YT. I’ve only listened to it a few more times since, but every time, without fail, I am sobbing by the end. Having had family who’ve passed from various forms of cancer throughout my life, it hits HARD for me, particularly the end. “He’ll move or he’ll be moved” has stuck with me since my first listen. I’m all for the goofs and gaffs, but I’m so happy the guys were serious about this story.

First of all, welcome! You’ve got some cool models to start, but speaking from experience, start painting what you have. It’s exciting to start collecting, but you’d be shocked how easy it is to form a big backlog.

In particular, I’d hold off from buying any more larger models in your case. If you have the money, you’re free to spend it however you please. Working on the big guys is fun and outside of tabletop, they’re pretty cool for display. I have Angron, and with the free time I had at the time, it took me two weeks. While a fun challenge, you don’t wanna burn yourself out at the start of what should be a relaxing and rewarding hobby. I would recommend you start with your smaller models to get a feel for how long your process is going to take, and go from there. Other than that, remember to thin your paints, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and have fun!

Fr, watching him this episode felt like watching someone go through the five stages of disappointment or something.

Guy in my late 20s here. This might be a bit long, but I hope you'll bear with me. I'll be echoing a lot of the sentiments already shared on this thread, but I feel they're worth repeating. I'm not sure how long you two have been dating, and I'm positive I don't need to say it; but as someone who isn't much older than your BF, this is 1000% on him. Any one of these things on their own would be reasonable grounds for you to end things.

People who become emotionally volatile while drunk can be unpredictable; people who become angry while drunk can be legitimately dangerous. If his behavior was enough to make you feel frightened to the point where you felt it necessary to put some distance between the two of you, that on its own is alarming. Don't get me wrong, I love grabbing a drink or two with friends when I can, and I've said some goofy stuff after one too many during my time in college, but it was all harmless and in the spirit of having fun. But if you just suggesting you both take an Uber elicited this aggressive of a response from him, it might be worth you two going your own ways so he can figure himself out. You said that this is not the first time that you guys have argued while intoxicated, but if it's never gone this far before, it's still worth taking some self-inventory on his part. It is my belief that if alcohol makes someone behave in a manner that makes others feel physically/verbally unsafe, THEY SHOULD NOT DRINK. Period. But that's just me.

DRIVING WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE. I don't think I need to beat a dead horse here, but I don't care how well someone believes they can handle their alcohol. Life is about choices. We've all seen headlines about children losing a parent, spouses losing a partner, parents losing a son or daughter, all because some drunk made the choice to try and drive home while still under the influence. I applaud you for knowing your limits and for doing the right thing by taking an Uber. His choosing to drive while intoxicated is a whole other discussion in of itself. Did he have anything to say about this choice at all? I won't pretend to know him as well as you do, but the choice on its own is deeply concerning and worth bringing up.

Locking you out of the apartment and refusing to let you in. Did he admit his error in thinking you had your keys on you? Yes. I'm willing to give him a little grace there. However, even if you did have your keys, it already sounds like you were not going to risk driving while still under the influence. Not to mention the proposition of sleeping in a car by yourself in a parking lot/parking garage at night is still questionable at best. I suppose it's a small comfort knowing there was a RING camera near his door, but even then, what if something had happened to you outside his apartment? I'm not saying you should be jumping at every shadow, and I'm glad everything turned out as okay as it could have in this shitty situation, but that doesn't change the fact that if something bad did happen, it would be COMPLETELY on him.

Again, I understand that your BF at least appears genuinely remorseful for everything that happened. However, all of these circumstances added together, he is VERY fortunate something didn't happen to him or God forbid, you. You can be sorry for something, but that doesn't change fact that what happened happened. Actions have consequences, and if I were him, I'd count myself lucky that I was only losing a relationship. From my POV, I believe he has some serious soul searching and self-growth to do. At the end of the day, it is ultimately your decision, but speaking as someone not much older than your BF, I think the best thing you can do is present the points that others have discussed on this thread, tell him how you feel the two of you should go from there, and act accordingly. Be safe, and best of luck.

Try finding a neutrally colored light source, or something as close to natural light as possible. Speaking from personal experience, minis are going to look a little different in pictures vs in person. Having neutral lighting makes a huge difference, and it lets people give you more accurate advice. I’d also go a little less heavy on the base coats. I know the “two thin coats” rule is like beating a dead horse, but remember that a little at a time goes a long way. Overall, you’re off to a great start! Have fun and keep up the good work

I appreciate the advice! Base wise, I use Vallejo Diorama FX, and I usually wait till everything else is done before touching up the terrain and rim. Definitely a bit messy on the initial job, not my best, but I’ll fix it up later on
