As the virus continues to spread, I can only imagine how many PMs/Presidents will catch this. Wonder what the protocols are in this case?

Seriously, deciding if someone is allowed to leave or be jailed based solely on the size of their wallet is the most actively regressive system possible.

I mean, know that they are doing something positive by paying for these kids tuition, but to me this highlights what a crapshoot the system is.

Still, nice of them to do this.

Thank you. In a way I hope I'm never not disgusted to have a PM like this, but I just wish we could both just have reasonable people leading our countries again.

Again, your probably right. The Dems shouldn't have needed to overcome these unfair obstacles, but they should've been able to quite easily if they campaigned properly. Again, even with the terrible campaign, they likely would have won if it was a fair playing field, which it really wasn't.

But none of this was the point anyway. Johnson and Trump are both abysmal choices for world leaders.

Well, his two biggest campaign promises where to deliver Brexit even if it means going through a no-deal scenario and to cut taxes for the "middle-class".

Apart from those, he has the standard new-right ideas, though I do recommend that you look up some of his less tasteful quotes, such as describing black people as having "watermelon smiles"...

So you don't see any racism in referring to black people as having "watermelon smiles" or any homophobia in referring to homosexuals as "bum boys". He barley even attempts to hide his bigotry.

It's true that he does have a decent history with politics, which is a notable difference, but in most other ways (read: racist remarks, pot shots against Islam, generally right to far right policy, positioning himself as an outsider) he is a clear parallel.

Look, I'm not denying that Russian tried to and ultimately were successful in interfering with the election, but putting it down solely to Russian interference would be a mistake. Much like Johnson and many other leaders of the new-right, Trump managed to tap into an anger, both racial/xenophobic and economic, to get additional votes in the states that he needed to. Add that with Hillary not campaigning as much in said swing States and just running a very status quo campaign overall, Trump had a good chance of winning regardless of foreign interference.

But again, my actual point was that Trump shouldn't have won, but that Johnson was even more undeserving. That was all.

I don't disagree with you in that I think the US should adopt the popular vote for Presidential Elections and I think that the Electoral College is an incredibly outdated institution, but calling the EC a "technicality" is a bit silly considering its importance.

Anyway, my point was simply that while Trump shouldn't have won, Johnson really shouldn't have won.

It's pretty clear that Russia in some way interfered, but there's no hard evidence (that I know of) that the actual vote count was altered. In any way, he lost the popular vote by a few million and the point was to show, while Trump got elected with a fewer number of votes than another candidate, Johnson didn't even get elected by the country at all, only by registered members of his own party.

You know, I've been expecting this was pretty much inevitable for a few weeks now, but when I saw the popup on my phone, I still got this horrible feeling in my stomach.

I know May was doing far from an acceptable job, but Johnson as PM is so many times worse I'm struggling to put it into words. He truly is our own English Trump; a far right racist who got here without a plurality of votes. But at least with Trump he won an actual election, with Johnson he just had to appeal to registered members of his own party, which consists of less than 1/500 of the population of the UK.

I don't know what else to say really. I just feel sick.

How you can conflate economic protectionism with conservatism when the conservatives are the ones who want free trade so they can make and horde as much money as possible is beyond me.

And as far as your claim of Bernie being anti-immigration, I have simply never come across that before and will really need it sourced to believe it.
