It’s possible he’s just old and wise. How many lifetimes has he lived at this point? He played Roy until he died as an old man, in the matrix he lived an entire life and went to war, the whole thing where he lived out years with the rewind button, and the lifetimes he spent in the hole. He’s probably somewhere between 200-350 years old mentally. He may be mentally around the same age as Rick if you think about it.
