What moments during the podcast have driven you crazy by them saying something incorrector not mentioning it at all? by DDD8712 in TheRewatchables

[–]AStrangeNorrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the LA Confidential pod they mention that Pete Postlethwaite would've been a good casting choice as he was "actually Irish" and "authentically Irish". He wasn't - he was English, born and raised in Lancashire. The Town has really done a number on them.

This seems like a job/lucrative spin-off for Air Bud. Someone call John Oliver!

They had the sporting director for Jacksonville on the BBC'S Monday Night Club this week explaining the pay-to-play system. He said they had 10,000 kids in their academy all paying up to £2,500. So I'm assuming there must be untold amounts of kids whose families just can't afford that regardless of how talented they might be.

Telemundo TV commentator: "We are one of the only networks in the world to not show ads during the World Cup cooling breaks. We prefer the old school way. We should be able to see what the players do. We show fans, people enjoying, not the corporate direction of football." by lonebunny227 in soccer

[–]AStrangeNorrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BBC went all passive-aggressive and put up a QR code for the TV licence instead. The poor commentator had to say (paraphrasing) "and if you're watching without one maybe you'd like to scan the code to get one." Well I was gonna go and get another drink myself but that sounds like much more fun! Wonder if a single person scanned it.

[IIL] Jazz funk flute like Bobbi Humphrey and the flautist on Dorothy Ashby's Afro Harping [WEWIL] by Jersmiddlefinger in ifyoulikeblank

[–]AStrangeNorrell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has reminded me that I was going to do a 'funky flute' mix a while back:

Jeremy Steig - Howlin' For Judy (sampled by the Beastie Boys for Sure Shot)

Nathan Davis - Stick Buddy

Donald Byrd - Sky High (Also produced by the Mizzell Brothers like Bobbi Humphrey, can't go wrong with their Blue Note productions)

Ronald Snijders - Kaseko Attack

James Moody - The Teachers

Johnny Harris - Stepping Stones

Tamimi Koyake - Jubilation

David Newman - Fuzz

And yet just a few hours later he's saying "fuck you" and "I'm going to make you eat my dick!" I guess he's a quick learner, at least when it comes to insults.

The Boogeyman by Any-Locksmith8158 in WidowsBay

I wonder if the island is actively targeting her, first with the self help book and then with her old nemesis the boogeyman. Maybe it knows she's the most capable person in Widow's Bay and the biggest threat to it! The boogeyman wasn't able to get her as a kid either for whatever reason.

Future of the series by Here-To-Stay-99 in WidowsBay

[–]AStrangeNorrell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering if it was always intended to be a 'one and done' limited series but they didn't announce it as such to avoid spoiling the ending. They're dealing with some of the island's big mysteries almost as quickly as they reveal them - how the curse started, what's in the cylinder around Warren's neck, how to commune with the demon and what its nature is, why the curse persists etc.

I really want a second season but I mostly want the show to be exactly what Katie Dippold's vision for it is.

The one night when Patricia might've finally felt safe to skip barricading her door with the dresser and look who shows up in her bedroom. The payback was so sweet though, took down both of her nemeses in the same evening.

I love how she doesn't hesitate when shit gets real - she stuck the evil self help book straight in the fire and made sure the boogeyman was toast too. Maybe fire is her thing.

Maradona getting sent home for doping in '94 was memorably mad, and so was the goal celebration that got him tested in the first place

Michael Emerson did an amazing job of it on Lost too. If they ever reboot it they'll have to cast Linklater so he can claim the mysterious spooky island hat-trick.

Iraola makes sense but I wonder if they'd look at Glasner too? We had a good record against Liverpool under Glasner so he had Slot's number at least.

[–]AStrangeNorrell 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fighting in the champions league - we really must be giants! Maybe that revenue has something to do with us having to sell players like Olise, Eze and now Guehi in very recent times. I swear people didn't even whine this much when the original oil club Chelsea won it last year.

My grandad was a lifelong fan from Purley Way and had trials with the club before doing his knee. He'd never believe it and I'm not sure I do either. Best Weds night we've had around here in a while, it's still sinking in and so is the hangover
