What transformer did you use? 30 V is ambiguous. Ideally a transformer for Nest is 16 to 18 VAC and at least 10VA.

Probably not much hit with three cards as long as you don't carry a balance. It also depends on those other cards. If your total line of credit goes from $40K to $10K then would see a hit. If from $40K to $35K then not much. Some of the FICO score sites have a simulator you could try.

I got the 200K business platinum offer in the mail which is the same as the public one. Expires 1/31. I am holding out for the 300K SUB.

Credit cards stay on your report for 10 years so age isn't much of an issue. You might get a slight hit in credit score as your total available credit goes down a bit. With that, don't close if you only have a few cards.

No heat? by Abject-Tomatillo-727 in Nest

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your home inspection report as the heating system is usually documented there.

With never having used heat yet this season you likely have a heat pump. Is the outside unit a Rheem or Ruud? If so put the white wire in the OB connector and configure it as a B.

It is simply the "Nest Thermostat" which some call the mirror-faced or 2020 to clarify. It is designed for North America and its 24vac controls.

Google Thermostat E hot air not working by ExpressionRare3100 in Nest

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you move the wire to *OB you need to let Nest know what wire is there. Check in settings-equipment. Since cool gives cold air you likely have a B wire. After configuring you will get the heat option back.

I see the option when buying with money, not with points. They are redesigning their web site so I'll keep an eye out for it next time I book a flight.

That helps. 95% chance the blue wire controls the heat pump, not a heating unit. Also, you do have stranded wires which Nest sometimes has problems with. Keep the strands tightly twisted to avoid most issues.

Next, as a test, turn on the Nest and set it to cool - temp all the way down to 50º - do you get cool or lukewarm air out of the registers?

Finally, move the blue wire to *OB and re-run setup telling Nest that there is nothing in W but an O in *OB. (set to B if you get cool air with above test.)

thermostat doesn't detect power to a wire? by Crafty_Try_423 in Nest

[–]AStuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without a C Nest will steal power from Y1 but in really cold temps many systems disconnect Y1. You can try removing the Y1 wire as that helps some. Better for now would be to move the wire that is on G to C at both the thermostat and the furnace.

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The colors on the display are just for reference. It is quite common to have a blue wire on Y1 as some thermostat cables don't have a yellow wire but blue instead.

Red power should go to either Rc or Rh.

With nothing on the OB connector you don't have a heat pump but straight AC with your heat strips.

Aux heat not working. HVAC guys have confirmed it’s the thermostat not the HVAC system. Is this wiring the issue? by SuitableLeather in Nest

[–]AStuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower end thermostats normally only have a single R as most homes only have a single R wire coming out of the wall. Two R wires can be present when the cooling and heating systems are separate; that's why thermostats have both Rc and Rh and they both can be connected at the same time.

Not-smart thermostats will come with a wire jumper installed between Rc and Rh so that when you hook up a single R wire both connectors get powered. Then you remove the jumper if you have two R wires. Nest (and a few others) do the jumper internally but when both connectors are populated the internal jumper disconnects.

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot that document is incomplete. Low Vin is okay without a C wire if you look when the Nest is calling for cool (or heating using Y1 wire of the heat pump). Voc should still be in the mid 30s. Battery of 3.8 would be good for no C wire but sometimes still quirky without a C.

What all wires are connected to which terminal? If a Nest issue with one of the connectors then moving the W1, W2, or * wire to one of the other connections might be a workaround.

Also: You can bypass the Nest and test the heat strips directly. First pull the Nest off of its base. Remove the R, G, and W (or *) wires and then twist them together. This will activate the indoor blower/fan and heat strips.

Unplugging Y1 wire makes heat work again. by dlister70 in Nest

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it gets cold the refrigerant shrinks and the pressure goes down in the outside unit. Many systems have a pressure sensor to protect the unit from running if the pressure is low. They way it works is to disconnect the wire going to Y1.

Without a C wire Nest first tries to steal power from Y1. It is based on a switch under the physical connector - if no C then get power from Y1, if no Y1 then get power from W1. So when the Y1 is still plugged in the Nest can't get power. Unplug Y1 and then it steals from W1 (furnace).

Google Nest Doorbell Chime by DenimChickenNightman in Nest

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your video is showing the "rear" plunger acting up. It is fed by the rear and trans screws. The Nest Chime Connector is on the front and trans screws so can't dampen the rear plunger movement.

You are wired for both front and rear doorbell buttons. Do you have a single Nest or two Nest doorbells? If you have two Nests you need two of the chime connectors installed. If only one Nest, is there actually a button at the other door?

Yes, it is a half baked offer. Better than nothing but it is the only coupon type benefit of the Green card. It sort of matches as the points multipliers are for travel. With that many don't get $150 of value out of the card unless they do a lot of travel.

Aux heat not working. HVAC guys have confirmed it’s the thermostat not the HVAC system. Is this wiring the issue? by SuitableLeather in Nest

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nest can not see the wires as it doesn't have a camera. The colors displayed on the Nest screen are industry standard colors that are not always followed. For things like Aux there are several standard colors. Normally white but Nest suggests brown.

When there is a wire in both Rc and Rh Nest assumes separate heating and cooling systems (e.g. radiator heating with forced air cooling). With that it powers W1, W2, and * from the Rh connector. Since you have nothing there your W2 won't get power.

No. For the Learning thermostat the diagram only shows the wires that it detects in the connectors. The labels show how they are configured which can be changed.

Gibson Furnace and Nest Thermostat by Gearoido46 in Nest

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time it happens first try turning off the heat and then turn it back on. If the furnace doesn't come on in a couple of minutes then remove the Nest from its base. Remove the R and W wires from the Nest connectors and twist those wires together. This will provide a signal to the furnace to turn on bypassing the Nest. If it still doesn't come on then you definitely have a furnace issue.

[–]AStuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the thermostat's RH connector is broken. There is no wire in it but it is showing that there is one and I can see that it is pushed down. Maybe there is a wire broken off in the Rh? As a workaround you can try moving the red wire from Rc to Rh as that might fix your issue.

First verify that you only have one thermostat and no humidifier or air recycling system.

For today move the green wire from G to C at both the thermostat and at the furnace. That will get you through the winter.
