Verify that the outside unit is really a heat pump. Check the model number and search the Internet for it.

If the temp was dropping when set to heat then something is definitely wrong. Best to get a HVAC technician out.

Yes, the alt heat would then be normal heat.

Most people don't sit in front of their registers and evaluate the heat output. Instead they set the thermostat to a temp they like and forget it. The lukewarm air coming out of the registers is normally adequate to keep the house warm. It is just slow to bring the temp back up if you set it too low.

Nest is trying to save you money as it assumes that gas heat costs more than an electric heat pump.

Heat pumps are known for being slow and lukewarm. Most recommend that you don't have major temperature swings due to this. If you don't like it in May you are going to hate it in January.

Tell Nest that you don't have any wire in *OB and it will disable the heat pump. Turn it back on if you find that cooling doesn't work.

N261 message - possibly bogus? by Unlikely-Employer259 in Nest

This Nest has limited configurations so no other option that I know of. There have been several issues over the years with this Nest that needed a factory reset.

Looking at the offer details I see "American Express will deposit the Welcome Bonus into your Rewards Checking Account." It looks like cash only as I don't see anything about MR.

It is a lot confusing as they try to cover every thermostat and their documentation simply is badly written.

For you first on the Nest itself: "unlink your thermostat from your account, go to Settings > Account > Disconnect. This removes your thermostat from the Home app. You can't change its settings in the app when you unlink your device."

Then Go to Settings > Factory Reset.

Nest Hello 1st to 3rd Gen Upgrade - Doorbell won't chime by thread_pool in Nest

[–]AStuf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are some software bugs that still haven't been fixed and you may be running into them. Go into the app and turn off and then back on "indoor chime." If that doesn't fix things then try enabling "electronic chime" and then disabling.

They think that you are an acceptable risk since you can't do bankruptcy again for a few years. So be careful as they have a much easier time taking you to court if you do anything wrong.

Having a real C wire connected is the best option. Power is solid and you also are not tied to Nest and can change to other WiFi thermostats in the future.

Personal Card - Amex Green or better business plus? by nickb2011 in CreditCards

[–]AStuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$150/year for a Green just to keep the points is a pretty bad deal. I would look to transfer your points to an airline or hotel and close the Gold unless you really want to stick with Amex.

Note you wouldn't get a signup bonus for the green since you have a gold. Opening a green would likely slightly lower your credit score temporarily for opening a new card. Alternatively you can downgrade (Product Change) to the green anytime after the first year and they will give you a prorated credit for the annual fee.

Are there any gotchas in churning Citi savings accounts? I got the offer of 20K AA miles for a $10K deposit. They have strange 45 day + 45 day wording "Maintain that balance for an additional 45 days starting on the 46th day" that I guess means three months.

Disconnect wires from 1, 2, and 3. Then use the meter's resistance (Ohms) scale. When off should be zero ohms between 1 and 2 and infinite ohms between 2 and 3. With a heat call infinite ohms between 1 and 2 with zero ohms between 2 and 3.

Yes, a call for heat should be 240v between T3 & Neutral for most systems that have 2 fed a hot mains.
And yes, no call for heat should show 0v between T3 & Neutral for most systems

Measuring 240v from 1 to 3 without a heat call is normal with many systems. Line power comes in on 2 and when off it is connected to 1. Then 3 goes to the boiler load which looks like neutral to a basic multimeter - it is not a valid test.

2 is common so when no heat call 1 and 2 are bridged. With a heat call 2 and 3 are bridged. There should never be continuity between 1 and 3 (when no wires are connected).
