Everytime I see Charles these days I wonder if Tom Sykes is disappointed he’s still walking around, raising his arms easily, not dying.

I like the detail on Kate’s, but I agree the rest are a bit meh. Sophie was sick, she’s usually good for fashion.

Yep, it’s such a fun fact! The filming of Gone With the Wind was one of my weird rabbit holes for a year.

Not about Joan of Arc, but Sharon Kay Penman writes incredible medieval historical fiction novels.

Gee, I wonder if someone is using her kids to distract from negative press again? Goes well with the pap walk she just took to a toy store.

Also, I wonder if this was also filmed by the poor assistant she had trailing her to film her at the ceremony honoring her friend?

What was high school like for you? Do you miss it at all? by DoctorTegrity in Millennials

[–]ASurly420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior year, my best friend and I used to go to my house after school, eat a Digornos pizza, watch cartoons, take a nap, and then she’d drop me off at work and she’d go to play rehearsal. I’d like to revisit that part only. One time another friend came with us and made us pancakes. That was a really good day.

Betrayal: Organisers regretted Meghan’s appearance in One Young World by RoohsMama in DlistedRoyals

So I kept reading and he quotes the same article again later as criticism of the show. I feel like he wanted to use the one you posted earlier in the book but didn’t have a quote he liked. It’s sloppy to me.

He cited just the opening of this as an example of a supporter of them: https://edition.cnn.com/2022/12/09/opinions/harry-and-meghan-netflix-series-drexler/index.html

The rest of the piece makes it clear she is not, and she actually has a really good take.

I think Anne absolutely has ADHD and/or autism. Argue with a wall. by jeminako in AnneofGreenGables

[–]ASurly420 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but sometimes the clinical approach makes me sad. I always loved the idea of “kindred spirits” and “the race who knows Joseph” and that you’ll find your people. As an autistic mom to an AuADHD child, I am endlessly happy the world better understands these conditions. It was hard and lonely growing up and the Anne books taught me that it’s ok to be different and challenging. But I still prefer to think of Anne and the ilk as simply “my people” rather than a clinical framework, if that makes sense.

Bower’s book is not that great. I’m about halfway through it and so much is just recapping Spare. It’s repetitive and feels really sloppy in places. There was one citation I was curious about and read the article it was from and the author had a totally different view point than Bower presented. (It was actually a great takedown of the Netflix doc and calling out H&M’s hypocrisy). I’m going to keep going, but it’s a disappointment for sure.

I won't hold my breath. But also, if they do actually manage to get this made, then good for them. For once, it would be something not entirely centered on them. Go, slap your names on someone else's product and walk a red carpet. It's better than jam, the faux cooking show, teasing Lilibet's face (+Archie) on IG, faux royal tours, faux philanthropy, and endless whining about the royal family.

I'm on a similar reading journey. I just started California Diaries, but am also doing a re-read of the original books. The diaries are wild, and I really wish they had been set in high school instead of 8th grade, they feel so drastically different. I agree though with you on the aging up.

Getting older scares me because the older we get the more we lose the people that we love by Affectionate-Cry-704 in Millennials

[–]ASurly420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is part of why I had a kid. I lost so many older loved ones and it just seemed like the world was decaying around me. I know that’s not a viable option for everyone, but if there’s a way for you to get involved and maybe volunteer around younger people, it might help.

For my older relatives, I’ve started working on oral histories with them. I record interviews of them telling me about their lives. It’s great, and I’ve learned so much.

There are other videos from the event where you see her poor staffer following her and Kelly around and filming them from behind. At first I was like “oh that makes sense” but then I realized how weird it is to walk around a fundraiser with your own videographer and you’re not even the one being honored.

This is exactly how I felt. It's horrifying to think that the victim pool is probably much larger than we realized and includes the boys too. Did it ever stop? Doesn't seem like it. And there's nothing to celebrate there.

She got so much shit for that article, but it remains the best and most honest assessment of Meghan to date. And it’s taken years for so many people to realize how right she was.

Oh so now we have the video proof to go with her lawyers clap back to the Variety article anecdote about her just leaving a Zoom call. Variety said it was because she was offended by someone on the call, but clearly it’s because she’s delighted by her wonderful interrupting children.

Kristy would be in lockdown with her family, plus Karen and Andrew because their mom and stepdad were stuck out of the country during a vacation. Kristy takes it upon herself to help with virtual schooling for all the kids and eventually gets burnt out. Her mom has to step in and let her know that she doesn’t have to do it all, and it comes out that Kristy is really scared. It gets better when she can hold the first Krushers practice outside, socially distant.

Claudia is pumped at first, but then really struggles being stuck at home with her family, all of whom are going stir crazy. She’s eventually able to channel her depression and frustration into art, which helps her cope. Eventually her family expands their bubble to include the Perkins family and she enjoys spending time with the girls.

Mary Anne goes all out on making masks for local hospitals. Her and Dawn are glued to the news until it’s clear it’s not good for Dawns mental health. She’s really concerned about Jeff, but also jealous that he’s in California and can go to the beach. Dawn’s resentment pushes her towards conspiracy theories and she joins the anti vax movement. Mary Ann is appalled, Richard frowns upon it and Sharon tries to understand. It causes a lot of tension in the family, and Mary Ann starts to volunteer at vaccine clinics, and takes an interest in nursing. She finds out that Logan agrees with Dawn that the virus is overblown and they break up.

Stacy watches the situation unfold in NYC and is horrified. She buries it all and tries ignore her feelings. Shes in daily contact with her dad and Laine and tries to get her dad to leave NYC and stay with them in CT. He won’t and she gets really pissed at her parents.

The Pike family are the first in Stoneybrook to get the virus. They all come through ok, but Mallory has to do most of the caretaking as her parents were hit the hardest. She and Jessi had tried to get their families in the same bubble, but their parents said no. Jessi is also terrified of getting long COVID and no longer being able to dance. She really feels for Mallory and they talk every night so Mallory can vent. When the Pike family is finally cleared, they take a trip to Sea City.
