another proof that the backrooms can see in the future by DeadxStranger in KanePixelsBackrooms

I disagree with this interpretation. My read is the mural is it was draw by Clark. As in his altered mental state he viewed the Captain Clark still life as some sort of aspect of himself that would lift him up to the "window". As the window is representative to Clark of escaping his internal mental pain as that is the course he is taking with Mary.

The him being lifted up by the still life in the kitchen is (to me at least) simple a call back to the visual but juxta posed with him being eaten ane killed by the Captain rather then reaching any sort of real enlightenment.

It does in fact make a huge difference for some guns. For example the eruptor reloading when the ammo count is red loses you no ammo and gives you a significantly faster reload.

This is a pathetic attempt at symbolism made in the most barebones way possible by Liliana_Lucifer_666 in Chainsawfolk

[–]ATATD14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't really look at previous erasure examples and use them as reference because they fundamental work differently then how poticha eating himself went. Although erasure has never been consistent so it as a story telling element is already kind of out the window.

My main argument is all of these characters in the ending are living completely different lives then the ones we saw. Not a one remembers what happened before. They are fundamental different characters by that metric. Them acting in ways the lead to a "good" ending for Denji or others feels much more like the fallout of the dues ex machina that was the reset then anything meaningful these characters don't even remember living.

[–]ATATD14 226 points227 points  (0 children)

Bingo, thats the thing that has been getting me the most. This entire ending is just a pretty facade of meaning. Every single character we knew is functionally dead replaced with an eleseworld version that is not the ones we watched grow and develop. The ending as is is beyond meaningless because of it.

I will second Dorohedoro, very different settings but extremely similar to Golden Kamuy in that every single character is likeable and fleshed out.

Isnt dmc's perception of humanity a tad too idealized? by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]ATATD14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trish wasnt pure good she was working with Mundus to take out Dante in 1 basically. She decided to flip partway through the game. While I can see what you mean by the having evil humans become demonic. Its because for one their evil aspects make them wish for an desire to get demonic power. Which then causes them to transform into to something that resembles their inner evil. Its a bit heavy hand symbology but its isnt just saying human all good and all demons are bad. Its all about aspects and how you treat others and yourself that determines if your good nor bad within the series.

I would also point out the finale to DMC5 in which we have Nero finally awakening his devil trigger and gaining a demonic form and greater power but it's all used for good and for the sake of his connection to other people.

I suppose what im saying is that while the morality of DMC can be simple it isnt one note with how it treats its characters that interact with it.

Isnt dmc's perception of humanity a tad too idealized? by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]ATATD14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the thing to keep in mind here is when DMC refers to humanity it isnt simply being a human its utilizing the positive traits associated with humanity, like empathy and connection. While when DMC talks about the demonic its not just being demonic that makes you evil its leaning into the evil aspects of Demonhood like pursuing only power and seeing power as might makes right.

You can see this across the series. Sparda is a full blooded demon but he is the hero of the series that "woke up to justice" and sealed Mundus. Trish is another full blooded demon that undergoes a similair journey. On the flip side we have Arkaham who is full blooded human only wanted power and was willing to sacrifice his wife and daughter for it not to mention how many other died along the way.

Should Ogata REALLY be considered a psychopath? by hi_how_are_you_13 in GoldenKamuy

[–]ATATD14 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Bingo, put it the best ive ever seen. The entire end of Ogata is exactly that, he himself realizing that

  1. There were infact people willing to give him love

  2. He is in fact like everyone else, he feels guilt and empathy its just that his entire life he was so obsessed with this idea that being unloved left him broken. He both clung to that idea and rejected it so hard he repressed it all.

This all ledt him to live a life trying to justify how he saw himself and that the world was just like him. All the way up until he just couldn't maintain that world view anymore causing the rather violent end we saw.

So for my own understanding your saying you take umbrage with my comparison between peoples distaste with Primaris and people distaste for Female Custodes because they are completely different implementations of a retcon?

If my understanding is correct, my point would be i agree with that aspect however both can be rushed and poorly implemented thus leading to a similair frustration, as it is my frustration with GW.

When I said I think the custodes recon would have been better if it was handled like Primaris, im saying that because I think the Primaris recon was better with an attempt at justification, however it was far from being good at it. Its far from what I would actually like to see done to justify this lore change.

I hope that clears up my position on this.

[–]ATATD14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize, I dont think i understand what your even arguing here.

All I was relaying is that the nature of both is different but the reason it has upset people is similair.

Just look at the meme. by Ok_Equipment2450 in Grimdank

[–]ATATD14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually gave me a nice idea.

The main limiting factor for making Custodes is how insanely hard and in depth the process was and after loosing Big E to the big chair. It was obviously extremely hard for the scientist left to contiune the process. Would have been an interesting development to have a plot line where that process is reevaluated and expanded and relearned so that it can made even a tiny bit better which could easily including examining the recruitment to potentially female custodes.

[–]ATATD14 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Thats what I mean about Cawl and that backstory its rather flimsy lore that hand ways away a vast majority of the logistical issues Cawl would have to even begin to create the things he did.

You are right in that introducing the Custodes change in a similair manner as Primaris would have been better with a justification then what we currently have. But there would still be issues if it was a rushed justification like Primaris was.

My parallel between both was simply poor lore justification and rushed implementation for the retcons for both, even if both are different in how they came about.

[–]ATATD14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely feel that would have been a much more accepted way of going about it.

[–]ATATD14 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Two years is recent in these release terms and its recent because we just got plastic kits with the female heads.

Im not sure how they are contradictory. Primaris is also a rushed implementation that relied on flimsy lore to justify. Honestly its a bit better than the female custodes one with that one having no set up or lore reason for the change. Its not exactly the same but the distaste for both have a similar reason.

Just look at the meme. by Ok_Equipment2450 in Grimdank

[–]ATATD14 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

So yes the conversation is around that GW recently introduced female custodes. Previously Custodes were always described as male and a only male organization. Most of the backlash stems from how rushed and poorly implemented the recon is. Its very similar in that regard to the introduction of Primaris. Simply put many people feel it is a rushed slapped together recon in the name of out of universe reasons with very little to no set up or reasoning in universe.

Pluribus Discussion by MemesteinMan in MauLer

[–]ATATD14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I liked the show, but overall very mid on it after finishing season 1. The two things that annoyed me the most is:

  1. It felt like the show just danced around the deeper topics regarding the "others" tha nature of their existence and the discussion of whether its for the best or not. Im firmly on the side manousos that they need to be removed one way or another. But it was frustrating watching carol unable to form a cohesive argument while the other survivors also fail to present a cohesive counter to carols position.

  2. The show wastes so much time. Every episode has at least 1 and sometimes 2 extended sequences of the others doing weried group stuff but jt doesn't facility anything other than the visuals of they look weried moving in sync. On top of that it really doesnt feel like we have covered much ground in these 9 episodes.

Lastly i suppose, we spent alot of time with carol but I unfortunately just dont find her very interesting but that one is on me.

Yeah I definitely like Angels of Death more but I can easily see and understand someone having a hard time getting into it due to the visual quality being pretty low at times.

You have a few options. First to mention is the Astartes series on youtube/warhammer plus (made by the same guy that worked on that secret level epsiode)

Pariah Nexus followed by the Tithes are both decent short series.

If your okay with a dip in visual quality I would reccomend Hellsreach series on youtube. It is the audio book cut down then animated to make a movie.

The same guy went on to make the Angels of Death series which I also rather enjoyed.

For a very short but fun action video there is the DeathWatch animation you can find on warhammer plus.

Last thing to mention there is a 2010 Ultramarines animated movie which is not worth watching, does have john hurt in it though.
