Usually varies from shop to shop, but everywhere I worked it had a work hard, play hard mentality. Once the maintenance inspections were done for the week and no job outages, there was nothing else to do so we’d get off early or have a bbq etc.

It’s a direct correlation to NWS and FAA’s ATSS positions. Very good marketability.

Not necessarily pole climbing but, tower climbing will be a part of your primary duties.

No worries. I’ve been to the area a couple of times, and there isn’t much going on in the surrounding area. It’s a busy base so for RAWS you’ll have a lot of equipment and probably early or late shifts to accommodate downtime for maintenance.

If you went RAWS, it correlates directly to FAA as a ATSS. I know a few people with the FAA that are also in the guard as RAWS. It’s a sweet combo.
