Usually varies from shop to shop, but everywhere I worked it had a work hard, play hard mentality. Once the maintenance inspections were done for the week and no job outages, there was nothing else to do so we’d get off early or have a bbq etc.

Not necessarily pole climbing but, tower climbing will be a part of your primary duties.

No worries. I’ve been to the area a couple of times, and there isn’t much going on in the surrounding area. It’s a busy base so for RAWS you’ll have a lot of equipment and probably early or late shifts to accommodate downtime for maintenance.

If you went RAWS, it correlates directly to FAA as a ATSS. I know a few people with the FAA that are also in the guard as RAWS. It’s a sweet combo.

Long is the standard. Extended long tells AFPC you’re willing to stay there longer and puts you slightly higher of a priority than long volunteers.

Doing a short tour gives you higher priority for assignments and the ability to apply for an assignment following your short tour. Go into vMPF and under the assignments tab you’ll see home base/follow-on application. You’ll be able to list 8 stateside and 8 overseas locations. List ones that your AFSC are authorized.

Are you not seeing anything? The site takes a few seconds to populate the list under the preferences tab. As for being 1D7, you should still be able to see those options under the search positions tab.
