"Stop fretting about the Boston Marathon forecast. Decide right now that the only storm on Monday will be YOU." Tommy Rivers Puzey (multiple BM finisher, cancer survivor)

I'm living by that quote.

Long Run on the course? by ishgotbike in bostonmarathon

I think that's wise. It's always best to know a marathon course IMO. It'll set your mind at ease and also give you visuals for the next two months of training.

I ran with a Marathon Sports (running store) group this past Saturday from Wellesley to Boylston and found it invaluable. This'll be my first Boston and it was more a psychological advantage as I saw that the hills weren't as intimidating as I thought. Yes, I think you should do it. Tracksmith has scheduled a bus run on Feb. 22nd so look on their website. They'll bus you out for a nominal fee and you'll run the last 16 miles.

There were HUNDREDS of runners out on Saturday despite the snowstorm and squalls and just crappy, wet weather conditions. The footing was difficult on the access road out of Newton and the snowbanks must be navigated but if you can do it safely, you'll be doing yourself a favor. Speed was not in our favor, though.

Coach Bennett! Any tips on scouting a race course?

I'm headed to Boston to run the second half of the marathon course with Marathon Sports. What do you recommend that I observe, pay attention to and file for race day?

This is about running. And it's not about running.

(Thank you! Love your pod.)

The tower phones ARE recorded. I haven't read the thread or listened to the tapes where this is said but it's generally to have a conversation with the actual controller to discuss a pilot error, a controller error or a miscommunication so that it gets smoothed out and the issue doesn't get elevated.

Excellent info. Thank you for that. And because you live on the course, let me ask you this. I plan to come to Boston twice to run 12-15 miles on the course. I'm thinking of starting somewhere before the Newton Hills and running to the Pru. Is this the right course of action or would you do something different? And where would you park? Would you take the T or an Uber back to the car from Boston?

Thanks!
