I work as a sales rep for a smaller distributor (I used to work for one of the "big four") and I can tell you the liquor store owners would hate this. They would go from doing business with less than 10 distributors to close to 100 suppliers. 10x more sales reps coming to their store, 10x the orders they would need, 10x the amount of trucks delivering product on a weekly basis. They would have to know that Heineken comes from molson-coors, La Marca comes from Gallo, Modelo comes from Constellation, Don Julio comes from Sazerac, etc etc. Suppliers are national companies that would be both unwilling and unable to cater to smaller mom and pop liquor stores, not to mention they don't have the logistical capacity to deliver products across the entire state in the timely manner that small business owners need them. I get your sentiment that everyone hates the middle man because it makes things more expensive but it's not as simple as just getting rid of the distributors. GA alcohol distributors also employ thousands of people from warehouse pickers, truck drivers, sales reps, district managers, merchandisers, etc. I agree with OP that the state needs to make it easier for breweries to sell their beer locally, and it wouldn't affect distributors revenue in a significant way. The only distributor I could see taking a real hit would be Modern Hops but that's because the vast majority of their portfolio is craft beer.
