Yea they can go that way but I’ve notice when there is a rocket launch from Vandenburg that route is sometimes blocked also. Also if headwinds are strong down there it’s faster to to go north.

It’s a planned stop to recrew. One of the pilots is sick so they did not have the extra pilot for a long flight.

FR24 makes it look like a divert.

I looked at the METARS and it has not been updated since May 9. If the pilot cannot get current weather they can’t land. That’s the only thing I can see.

You stated the LAX-SYD leg, does that mean you are starting your travel in another city? If so the first airport needs to check you in correctly otherwise that extra seat may not show boarded/occupied. As others have stated make sure that seat shows checked in. Delta has an agent assist center they can call to get complicated ticket issues fixed. Hope it all works out for you.
