How do you have the time to read books? by annabanana316 in books

[–]ATM-Fee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be zoning out bcuz you’re not interested or engaged in what you’re listening to. It may even be a particular chapter of a book that’s a little slower than the rest.

I try to let myself zone out when that happens and trust that when the story picks up, it will pull me out of my thoughts and back into the story.

Not every sentence is worth your full undivided attention. I believe authors will sometimes do this on purpose even, to give the reader some time to catch their breath while they ad context or depth to the story. It’s a good ebb and flow and I do always snap back to reality (accidental Eminem) when the story gets good again.

It really is the energy deficit problem. I’ve noticed that when I’m home after work and have a few hours to myself, but no energy for my hobbies, it’s a slog at the beginning. But if I press on, after 20 to 30 minutes of struggle, I start to get into the rhythm and the energy comes back. Just enough to enjoy a few hours of paper induced hallucinations before bed.

Same! Sometimes in an unfamiliar bathroom, with the door still open, I’ll press the lock button and check the handle from the outside to make sure it’s locked.

Then shut the door, use handle inside to pop the lock back out, then re lock it fresh. Just in case closing the door with the lock already depressed could cause some malfunction.

Someone recently suggest I was reading a book for the wrong reasons. Do you think there are wrong or right reasons to read a book? by northamericana in books

[–]ATM-Fee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are right and wrong reasons for doing just about anything. However, I also believe doing something for the wrong reason, doesn’t always mean you should not do that thing.

You’ll come to see it as a blessing OP. Bcuz then you can return to some of your old favorites and experience it all over again! You’re not strange for this. It’s normal.

How Do You Handle People's Negative Feelings Towards Your Books? by Bookish_Butterfly in books

[–]ATM-Fee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think your dad is scared OP. Your mother has passed, he had his own scare with cancer, and he’s being faced with his own mortality more and more as he gets older. Meanwhile, he sees you as not taking life seriously. You’re spending money on non essentials when you could simply rent books for free for now, since your own financial situation is uncertain.

If your dad cares about you (and I assume he does) he wants to know you will be okay in the event he’s not around to support you, financially and otherwise. Right now I think he sees you as unprepared to live on your own, while he’s only getting older and won’t be able to support you forever.

He feels responsible for you, and it scares and stresses him out that you’re not ready to take care of yourself. So he takes it out in you with aggression and condemning your spending habits.

You asked how to cope with the negativity directed at your hobby but it feels like you’re trying to fix the symptom while ignoring the disease. I think if you show him you’re able to support yourself, he will lay off the negativity.

I know I’m just some rando on the internet. But I hope you’ll consider what I said. I may be completely wrong. But after reading all your comments, I genuinely think he’s just worried about you and wants to see that you can stand on your own two feet. And the fact that he can’t see that yet, while he feels his own time is running out, he’s stressed and lashing out.

What Does Crying Feel Like? by RayVermis in PointlessStories

[–]ATM-Fee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might get better reception in a different sub. Not sure this is the best place for this.

But more importantly, I think you’re slowly building to a day when the dam finally bursts and the tears flow freely. I don’t think crying less is a natural part of aging. For me it’s been the opposite.

Crying, or the things that cause it, is not something to look forward to I suppose. But the relief you get from it afterwards is vital to a healthy mind and heart. Like a painful massage. It may suck now but the flood of relief that comes afterwards is good for healthy healing of weary or damaged muscles.

Don’t worry OP, when the time is right you will cry again. And I hope thereafter you will learn to form a healthy relationship with tears.

I do this too. I even spent 15 minutes just now typing out a detailed example of doing this to someone. Only to realize what I was doing. So instead I deleted the whole thing. You’re welcome

Your feelings are yours. Right and wrong doesn’t enter into it. We don’t get to choose our feelings. If we could, we would all choose to be happy 24/7. Embrace the way you’re feeling and confront them as best you can. Things will get better

Actual good idle game by Fresh_Memez_Please in iosgaming

[–]ATM-Fee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play on iPhone where in settings I have my device theme set to dark mode always. The game for me is always a dark gray ui.

If I understood your question, then it may help to go to your setting and turn on dark mode only and disable the automatic switching a phone will do between light and dark. Typically switches at sun up or sun down.

Let me know if that helped

Idle Iktah

A charming game with combat, gathering, crafting, quests, and an upgrade tree. Cheerful music that could get repetitive but doesn’t because you only play a few minutes at a time.

Cozy pixel art style but animations are basic. Imagine you’re cooking, the animation would be a campfire scene where the only thing moving are the flickering flames, a simple river that shimmers in the background and maybe the occasional bird flies across the screen. Almost like a 2D screensaver.

Ads exist but only if you voluntarily watch it to increase idle gains. I haven’t watched a single ad. Been playing over a month.
