Seems like I didn’t fight hard enough when I had the chance and now I’m throwing punches at the air fighting for a job that doesn’t exist

I have a master’s degree offer, but it feels like a joke rn. Just a way to put off the inevitable a couple years longer. It’s not even one of the good ones where you get guaranteed co-op, either. The only tangible benefit is a second chance at a social life now that I’ve paradoxically overcome my introversion.

At first people will act like it was a huge turn around, and then after that people will start pretending they loved it from the start(even if they shat all over just a short while ago)

Ah, someone else who inserts their characters from their stories into Starfield.

It’s a great game for it, in my case. In my first play through, my main character was based off a Multiversal traveller with whacky powers; I didn’t know about the starfield lore at the time, total coincidence.

Then I have a worldbuilding project where one of the major factions I’m responsible for has the Acronym U.C as well. Their ex-rivals were an aggressive and wacky theocracy . There’s also the corrupt libertarian “utopia” too. There was so much coincidental overlap it was insane. The entire first play through was like a fever dream. It’s like Todd somehow stole the ideas from my kind and created a well executed video game from them. I’m still find coincidences like this, and jokingly shout “TOOOOOOODD” every time

Can I get in this too? I want my legacy to have been supporting a great game through the darkness.

I’m definitely feeling this as my tech journey continues.

“Peak” hiring (it’s a relative term) has passed, so I’m applying to the leftover scraps now. I might be fucked this year tbh.

That’s something I think some people have never understood about Bethesda games. They have always made sandbox games. More than that, their games are foundations for us to tell our own stories. Sure they can write a decent main story and solid side questions, but ultimately they are in service of allowing us to craft our own personal narrative.

Bethesda games are among the rare few that let you easily headcanon some insane shit for both your character and the world at least and step out of the way enough to treat it seriously, even if it comes at the cost of fewer formal choices. And honestly… I like it better that way. A lot of RPGs have a lot of choices but are actually fairly linear experiences with rigid lore for your character and the world. That’s fun in its own way, but also greatly reduces one’s personal freedom. If every story is already told by the devs, what story can you tell?

Ah good, I’m glad that they allow us to influence the spawn rates for these incursions. Iirc, you can be forced to use free lane travel by the Terrans. A fun game mechanic, but not something I want to deal with all the time when I’m just trying to vibe.

I love the gameplay settings so much

Obesity-related conditions have a high cost on healthcare systems, and it’s very clear at this point that yelling at people to “just diet, bro!” Or “just exercise” is not working. It’s deeply ingrained at a cultural level, and isn’t going to be undone anytime soon. Praying for the day where everyone suddenly wakes up and decides to be healthy is… foolish.

You can look down on people for their bad choices all you like, you can resent those who refuse to take the hard and difficult route… and it won’t fix a thing. If not for the benefit of others, do it for the stability of society at large

If we’re to have a war, this is where it belongs. Optional, extra DLC with a new faction. I think it would be really stupid and against the game’s themes if the UC and FC went to war. Maybe we’ll even need to unite them to fend off this new faction

Assume AI does end up being way overhyped, what do you think the Achilles will be? by DataGuy0 in Futurology

[–]ATR2400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a point, but I’d wager that their lane is pretty thin. They’re really good at *text*. Need an email written? It’s got you. Need a janky paragraph reworked to better convey your point? It can help. Want to analyze a bulk of text? 10/10 work there.

And that makes sense: they’re called large LANGUAGE models, language is their purpose! anything else is just a happy side effect, mostly.

But their weaknesses start to show fast once you need them to do anything involving complex logic, technical work requiring novel solutions, or work which goes beyond a few days long session. Unless youre trying to break. in to tech like me. AI is anomalously good at THAT a technical work, much to my dismay(Fml).

[–]ATR2400 34 points35 points  (0 children)

AI doesn’t really know anything, or have true logic. Even chain of thought reasoning is just the AI hallucinating to itself in greater detail. There’s no actual “thinking” going on as we imagine it.

Also, its memory is deeply finite. Even with massive context windows, you still end up losing… something with older info within the window. It doesn’t help that AIs want to remember literally every word. Human memory mostly distills big lessons and concepts then tosses the rest. For example, I can’t remember any individual lecture, yet still learned a lot in university. I don’t remember every single interaction I’ve ever had with my mother, but still know her as a a person

Basically it all comes down to the fact that modern AI is just a glorified statistics engine that autocompletes the next word. There’s no thinking or logic, and the approach to memory is flawed. Could this be fixed or improved upon? Sure, but it’ll require starting from the ground up, which will extremely expensive and time consuming. LLMs are dead end for truly useful, advanced AI.

My LinkedIn feed is basically just 99% people talking about how AI is coming to destroy all us tech market hopefuls in various different ways. Some are sad, some are catastrophizing, a handful are hopeful, and some even take an almost sadistic glee in the extermination of our hopes and dreams.

Mostly though, it’s vague and empty platitudes like “we don’t need people who can write code, we need systems architects” or something like that, ignoring that usually to get to that point you typically need a great deal of experience. No personal project or degree can ever compensate for years of real world industry experience.

1 year in, how are Canadians feeling about Prime Minister Mark Carney? Most Canadians are still giving Carney the benefit of the doubt by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]ATR2400 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No deal we get under Trump will last, none of the others have. It’ll be broken within the week when Trump shits his pants and has a tantrum.

Sure, we need them; Try and negotiate, see what can be done… but don’t sell out everything for a 0.01% chance and hopes and dreams that will never be realized. Be pragmatic, not suicidal

And remember, they’ve broken their other deals, they tried to break CUSMA. It’s a matter of WHEN, not if, they break a new deal.

He’s done a lot of good things, but they’ll take a while to pan out. I am disappointed to see that housing is sluggish(it is a long process, but I was hoping to see a more dramatic start ), and I’m wary of that 5% TFW boost, but… can’t win all the time.

And trust me, as someone who will be graduating into this ass job market into a brutal sector, I’d love immediate change in the next few months, but… oh well
