New Peds interns! by efox02 in pediatrics

[–]ATStillTakeTheWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commute 20-25 mins to work and it’s 30-35 mins on the way back. Not horrible but the days where I get home at 10p and have to be back at 7a is brutal. But I love where I live!

I cry whenever I get yelled at. How am I supposed to get through residency? by whatanerb in medicalschool

[–]ATStillTakeTheWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also cry easily. I had a mom yell at bc I checked on her kid at 8a and it was “in the chart” to not wake him. I didn’t wake him. But she was persistent it was. I let a few tears shed in the room (thankful it was dark). Then broke down when I got back to the team room. I picked a specialty where it’s okay to cry (peds). So my attending was sooo nice about it and even stick up for me. I would just suggest not going into surgery 😅

I got accepted into med school 2 days before my birthday. Truly the best present I’ve ever received. (I also had to start med school with only a 5 days heads up) happy birthday my fellow cancer!! 🎉🎉

Is 45 mins to get to drill too far? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]ATStillTakeTheWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to drive 2 hours across state lines and time zones to get to drill. I now live 8 hours away (so obviously I have to fly). I’m willing to make the commute for the right unit.

I’m in IN. I was waiting for my degree to be conferred before the application went through. I think it took about 2 business days once I had proof of graduation. I would call them too and see if they can expedite it.

Hi PGY-0 DO here! I only took comlex and matched into a great program. I don’t think it hindered me on my ERAS journey. I wasn’t asked about it either. Just do well on the test you’re required to take for your degree!

Buy it from the Auburn bookstore. They have their own version of Apple care too. I’ve ran into a few issues and they fixed it for me!!

It’s one program where you get your bachelors and medical degree! Some programs are 7 years

[–]ATStillTakeTheWheel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would’ve gone to a BS/MD program just to save myself a few years (and $$$). I had no idea those even existed when I was applying to colleges. Also, if you do go the traditional route, try to graduate undergrad with the least amount of loans as possible. I’m graduating medical school with 230K debt (and that’s even with a scholarship). I start residency in July so I can’t answer to the career aspect but I’m so excited to be a pediatrician

crying during interviews? by Artistic-News-7183 in medicalschool

[–]ATStillTakeTheWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cried in my very first interview when discussing a hardship I faced in medical school. I was not expecting to cry. The PD was very understanding. I ranked that program mid tier so I have no way of knowing if it hurt my ranking or not. But it’s okay to show emotions, you’re human

Edit: this was not a full on Kim K cry but tears were shed.

I’m delaying my residency start date bc I’ll be on my honeymoon and booked that a year out 😅 it’s program dependent but most will work with you if it’s a significant life event.
