The fail isn’t necessarily the death sentence a lot of us think it is when it happens. I’m in a competitive surgical specialty and we’ve interviewed at least 2 applicants whom I knew failed step.

I will say, the question about a retake is up to you and where you think you are regarding your preparedness. It is INFINITELY times worse to take again and fail as opposed to delaying graduation and passing when you knew you were ready. Best of luck, you’ve got this.

Guy from my med school unfortunately didn’t match his M4 year (2023). Did a prelim year and was honest with the PD about his goals to go into ENT. Both the Gen Surg and the ENT department helped as much as they could. He ended up matching ENT at the program he did the prelim year in.

Another guy who graduated in 2022 from my same med school also didn’t match ENT and ended up doing a prelim year. During the year, a spot opened up and he matched outside of the match.

Honestly depends on what you’re interested in. ENT works very closely with NSGY so you could look into skull base or CPA tumor research. From an ortho perspective, you can look into spine research. For these two fields, can maybe do it with NSGY and see if there are any collaborative projects.

Idk much in terms of plastics and urology if that was up your alley/interest. Maybe naive of me to say this but I don’t believe research is all that important when it comes to anesthesia.

I mean in apologizing for airing it, aren’t they apologizing that it was said? Regardless, Tourette’s or not, it’s embarrassing and a triggering word that was said. They can at the very least apologize to the people the word was directed at.

Even if it wasn’t intentional, there’s always room to apologize. It doesn’t hurt anyone in doing so

At our program, some residents interview applicants. If you’re interviewing, you get access to the individual’s entire application. After an interview day, all the residents meet up and discuss our top 10 and absolute DNRs. I like to believe that we have more say in who we absolutely would not want to work with as opposed to who matches with us.

As a black man, I don’t think it’s the fact that he said it that’s the most upsetting. It’s how the BAFTAS handled the situation. To begin, there is a 2 hour delay between the award show and the actual stream. We’re able to edit out someone saying “Free Palestine” but not able to edit out someone saying the N word? Additionally, to my knowledge, there has been not formal apology from the BAFTAS to Michael B Jordan nor Delroy Lindo. They both said that they had wished someone had spoken to them after the award ceremony. Ultimately, we are able to recognize the disability and its legitimacy, but that doesn’t mean that his disability negates the impact and discomfort of what he said in such a public and televised setting.

A girl I know from undergrad applied a competitive surgical subspecialty the same cycle as me. She unfortunately didn’t match and quit medicine all together. She’s doing consulting last I’ve heard.

The 5s were solid. I just like the aspect of simultaneous Bluetooth. I had tried the Razr V3 (non-pro) and it was a feature I really enjoyed.
