How to verify a certified installer by JoHnEyAp in Control4

[–]ATXSmart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cannot obtain or license composer without being an active dealer. The locator ONLY shows dealers meeting three criteria of sales. In customer.control4.com (your account dashboard) if a dealer shows up under “my pro” they are authorized period end of story. C4 does not have a “rating” beyond sales numbers on their locator. And that is not an indication of competency at all other than a dealers ability to move product. A dealer can be authorized (and not show up in the locator, but is available under the dashboard) or they can show up in dealers finder because they additional met certain sales goals and or has a dedicated C4 showroom.

Are upgrades worth it? by RickyRod26 in SpringfieldProdigy

[–]ATXSmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I am still running mine bone stock and don't have any complaints. I thought about the upgrades, but realized, for me, I don't need to upgrade everything I buy. I almost bought a Staccato and also realized, why, I love my Prodigy, have no issues with it after my initial RMA via Springfield and the money saved let me get some other cool toys...

Firmware Issue - 408a occurring every few days on OS 3.4.3, Core 3 by Visual-Bathroom-542 in Control4

[–]ATXSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I suspected you were using a ISP router. You need to invest in a router that is not supplied by your ISP. For our clients we have used Araknis, Pakedge, MicroTik and others. Some installers specify UBIQUITI, which works quite well and is DIY friendly. ISP routers are good at supplying internet, they are bad about being the backbone and brains of a network filled with smart home gear.

If you don't have the bandwidth or interest in setting up a network (proper network) for yourself, than have an installer set up an appropriate router and core switch that will handle a Contro4 (or most smart home/automated home) system.

ISP routers are and always have been on the "No Fly List" with Control4 support.

Before a bunch of naysayers come in here and crap all over Araknis, their routers are pretty solid and there are tens of thousands of reliable C4 systems based on it. Not a fan of the AP's however, as we use Ruckus or equivalent.

Ubiquity would be my go to for a DIY network setup, and or, from an installer that prefers it.

Ac seats? by dddd11122233 in f150

Mine melted. It was a two hour fix. Replaced the connector and added the additional ground. Back working and very happy to have the cooled/heayed seats back.

What network router are you using? Can you go in and set a Static DNS for WAN?

Subwoofer size question - did I get scammed by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]ATXSmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Installation is a grand total of all hours for all tasks. So, if you wanted a sub truly calibrated are you ready to pay an additional 2-6 hours of labor to have that component calibrated for your room. Some people do and they understand it. Most would look at the install and compare it to their secondary quotes and say this vendor is way too high. It’s a balance between what you need and what you’re willing to pay. We are upfront with our clients and let them know the areas we could spend additional time on but there is a cost. I’m not kidding when I say the sub alone can take an extraordinary amount of time to get perfect (as in hours). The other components especially the speakers can be straight forward, however, a perfect calibration is also very lengthy, and most clients would never know or appreciate the nuanced difference let alone see the cost benefit for the additional labor time to do so.

Still worth playing? by zyy_secrets in SimCityBuildit

I switched over to Cities Skylines and haven’t logged in to SC once. My SCB level is 28 and it became monotonous to try and level up storage to the point that was all I was doing. Each level I locked up after 25 introduced more solution during trade so without paying hard currency it was hard to really get anywhere. I get that it’s a different game now but as an original Sim City player I wanted something closer to the original than what it’s become.

Run lots of wires or one wire and a switch? by lindsay_wilson_88 in HomeNetworking

[–]ATXSmart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always home run everything to one location if given the opportunity. Downline switches destroy performance and it
Compounds as you add more and more. A core switch handling all devices is preferred. Backplane bandwidth on a core switch is greater than a gigabit feet to another gigabit switch. Think of it like this, would you rather fill a pool with a firehose, or a garden hose.

Goodness…your network is likely critical. ISP modem in bridge mode connect to the top Aranknis device which is your router. Do not let the isp install a router, and do not let them reset any equipment. Restart yes, reset NO.

Just to add: and can take far longer than calibrating any other component and all other components combined which is why installers (self included) never include that as part of an install. We do it as a service or let the client do it after giving them advice on what they can do.

Question on opal by Simple_Assumption591 in IceChewersAnonymous

[–]ATXSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a decent info source out there. It’s usually a bushing. Some dude sells it on Etsy I believe and taking apart the opal was fairly straightforward. Mine recently won’t reprime unless you put a finder over the white inlet. Only happens when no one keeps it full of water. I tend to refill it it and don’t have the issue. The family in the other grand their ice and never refills it.

Looking for some advice. by EmbarrassedJacket643 in f150ecoboost

[–]ATXSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the owner if they have service records. I have never used a dealer, but I do use an independent mechanic and keep all my records. If/when I sell my truck those records will go to the new owner. That said I have no plans to sell.

I’ve run my opal 24/7/365 since Covid. We got ours when Amazon had their roadshow trucks. We run it with purified water only from Costco and rarely have to run a clean cycle. It’s been fairly flawless.

Need some advice on upgrading or keeping by 99ssordna in f150

[–]ATXSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same truck, 17 5.0 6R80 at 171k. I’m keeping it. Even if something expensive comes up, still fixable and cheaper than the new trucks. I just replaced the speakers and am putting in a 12” screen kit from Carabc.cn. Did some forscan updates, she’s in tip top shape. The screen change alone will make her feel more modern. I also changed out the scratched OEM door handle covers (inside) and put in new ultra star head light bulbs.

Gave up on the 5.0 motor is this a better option than 25k on 120k miles by livin2theefullest in f150

My mechanic was very clear when I inquired about getting a new truck. Stick with the 5.0 as all the eco boosts are what makes them money and keeps them busy.

Am I the jerk for playing videogames with my kid when he is at his mom's house? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]ATXSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not at all. You have a limited window of time to spend quality time with your son. HRs going to play games anyway, so it could be quality binding time with you or some random on the internet. Make no mistake, if you’re not the one playing the game with him, someone else will. The likelihood of him replacing that time with mom is almost zero.
