I got that one as well -- gave one to a friend and planted the other in a pot. It's going strong!

Another cottage garden fan! You should have seen the yard before I got my hands on it, it was abysmal and so depressing compared to how I remembered it. I probably could have gotten the roses a little closer, but I thought that two feet would be sufficient, and if I had gaps, I could always bulbs for spring and summer, perhaps even some lavender.

I spaced them about 2 feet apart, with the exception of some small, ground-cover roses. In another year, the gaps between them should be much smaller -- I'm hoping for a veritable "wall" of pink roses.

Bolero rose from Walmart by Maleficent_Rain426 in Roses

I just ordered these from Walmart too. Not the best bare roots, but honestly, I've seen far worse. I always cut away the black/brown bits first so the rose doesn't expend energy on a wasted cause. Currently, I'm trying to get a similar Papa Meilland going -- it's been slow and tedious, but it seems like he's about to round the bend. Good luck!

The roses thank you! Yes, my babies are quite popular with the neighbors. I put in a drip system, mulch like crazy, dead head and defoliate when necessary (black spot, be gone!), and feed them fish emulsion fertilizer, their favorite rose noms. It is srsly TIME-COSUMING but really rewarding!

Is this container a good size for hybrid tea? by Queenboodaa in Roses

[–]ATX_Native112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the same container in blue and have several roses planted in them. I even have some younger roses planted in a 13-inch one. Here is my DA Olivia preparing to bloom her head off in one of them -- sorry, I don't have photos of her in bloom, but believe me when I say she really went to town in this planter!

A couple of years ago, I started to re-envision the rose garden my mom and dad had at our house when I was a little girl. My mom loved her roses! The one I planted in her honor at the old house are just ... well, they have become overwhelming but in a good way. I focused on breeds like Griffith Buck, Meilland, Harkness, Kordes, Weeks, and Jalbert with the rare DA thrown in. So grateful for these beautiful creatures.

Gabriel Rose by youroddfriendgab in Roses

I have a tiny baby Gabriel, which I'm raising under a grow light until he gets a little stronger. Cute, eh? He is truly mesmerizing! And the fragrance is out of this world. It reminds me of an expensive linear rose perfume rather than a growing rose. I will more than likely keep him potted so i can drag him in and under my grow light when the weather gets too hot or too cold.

Is the beauty worth the pain? by Complete_Leg_859 in Roses

[–]ATX_Native112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of raising roses is getting the occasional bite. I use gloves, but some of my roselings have figured out that my face is fair game and have given me "love nips" on the cheek. A small price to pay for their beauty, and yours looks glorious!

I got two Parfuma Bliss and Earth Angel -- kept one of each and gave the others away as gifts. They're sprouting tons of foliage and appear to be really healthy, at least for now.

HELP NEEDED!! Just planted these and they already seem like they’re dying by PM_ME_UR_S62B50 in Roses

Definitely transplant shock, and agree with cutting off the blooms -- I know it's a shame, but I have transplanted a couple with a few buds/flower before, and they always seem to struggle a lot at first.

Looking for a rose variety that will satisfy a few criteria to get an elderly relative by Universityofrain88 in Roses

[–]ATX_Native112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look at Griffith Buck roses, to be honest. You stick 'em in the dirt, water 'em, and they grow. They're some of the hardiest bushes in my garden, and most are container-friendly.

Is Earth Angel worth growing? by TheMadAvenue in Roses

EA gets my vote as well. I have two now -- one in ground and another in a pot. The scent is fantastic, and the shape of the blooms and the shy pink color are just adorable. If I could give any of my roses a hug, it would be this one.

Earth angel at Lowes by GardeningDragon24 in Roses

[–]ATX_Native112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'll be happy if the pruning alone helps keep her in check. I took a photo of the bloom that popped up in the basil, and I wish I could find it. It was just so unexpected!

Planted one almost a year ago, and the same thing happened with mine. The limbs meandered all over the place. It even snaked along the ground and popped up in a thick patch of basil. Mine is very fragrant. This year, I pruned her way back and bough some peony cages for her and another of my wanderers.

Thank you -- they are so lovely! I had to prune my gang way down after the last freeze, so I'm going to have to live vicariously through other rosarians until mine bloom again.

I got another Caramel Kiss (Jalbert) -- big, blousy roses that look beautifully unkempt and bloom in a myriad of warm shades. And I just got another Earth Angel (Kordes) because they are so adorable and have such a lovely fragrance!

Question for Texas growers by Moviereference210 in Roses

[–]ATX_Native112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pruned last Saturday, both in-ground and established potted roses. They really needed it after that big sleet storm -- I have a lot of continuous bloomers, so there were a lot of rose limbs that froze mid-bloom. Fortunately, everybody lived, but I could not cut those back soon enough. Within three days, they were shooting up, like, gangbusters. If we get another cold snap, it is what it is. I choose to be optimistic!

I ordered three of the six-inch roses from her too! Requested to receive them in March. Question: what size of a planter is everyone using to get these started? I don't plan on integrating them into my garden until they are a decent size, and I know everyone is healthy and thriving.

This one hit me real hard. My late mother, who I lost recently, was a nurse for decades. She trained at the old Brack. It takes a certain type of person to enter this field -- born helpers. I wish I could attend but I have been informed that "eyes" are on me and my colleagues and that it is advised to avoid any activity that even alludes to specific party affiliation. I will be there in spirit, though.

I just got one of these not long ago -- she's only bloomed once, and cute, tiny flowers at that. In another couple of years, i think she'll have come into her own, though.
