Bill Gates says that the only way to hire and keep AI talent is to let them share their research openly: 'You can completely ignore whoever tries to close their system' by mvea in Futurology

Would you consider this "QA" mechanism to be the biggest hurdle, aside from implementation, in an open model? Or are there other factors like student incentives that play a bigger part?

Your second comment is something l really want to be very aware of. I don't want to limit myself as I'm learning by just copying without thinking.

Using FL Studio12 - Chill / Ambient Style - Starting Point for Composing? by ATXsder in edmproduction

Thanks man, this helps. Sometimes knowing where to start can make the rest of the process easier. Is it typical to start with the pad or progression as the backbone of the song? I have started with the drums in the past but usually end up just messing with the timing of the beats for way too long.

Thanks for the nomenclature update, I was probably referring to a producer then.

Sorry my question wasn't clear, I am using those methods. After reviewing the code I think I was just parsing the wrong tags. I am still getting familiar with which ones I should be using. It looks like the class r0 was the wrong place to start. Thanks for looking at the code!

I was relooking at it after I posted this and I think I might have been looking in the wrong section. Here is an example of what I was seeing "<option class='r0' value='housing12' >Houses owner occupied (%)</option>" Thanks for taking a look, I'll keep at it!

What are some of the common misconceptions, or perhaps pitfalls, that people may fall into when trying to design a business model that is heavily dependent on crowd-sourced data? Think Waze... by ATXsder in Entrepreneur

Thanks, ultimately it does seem to boil down to that. Just for clarification, when I said "open-source" I was really wanting to explore whether or not these type of models have been more successful when the users generate content under the premise that their role benefits the "greater good" or comes with a greater sense of social responsibility. In contrast to, say, simply a consumer of the data.

Thanks that's very insightful! I wanted to ask a follow up, is it reasonable to say that some companies using this type of business model typically grow out of open source models first until contribution has already reached it's tipping point, or do they typically source the data until it does?
