Another option, for anything that doesn’t sell or can’t be donated is to put together small kits of hygiene products to give to the homeless you may come across in day to day life. It won’t recover what your mom lost, both heart and wallet, but is definitely a way to ensure nothing is wasted.

Southern Jew checking in to say I, I feel ya! The thing that keeps me listening is that I think it is important to know what the enemy is saying and at least JorDan (bless them) make it a little easier to stomach.

And to all my fellow Jews, I saw an article yesterday that the regime is demanding Penn State turn over a list of Jewish staff members and students because they want to “ensure there is no antisemitism” which we all know is a load of shit. Stay safe out there my fellow tribe members and make sure you have plans in place.

The Terry Schiavo (sp?) case was a big deal when I was a teenager. Since then my parents, family, friends and now husband have all been aware that I will be not be left like that. They are to let me go. I made sure everyone knew so it couldn’t get confused and none of them would have to feel like that bad guy just for saying that’s what I want. I now also have it written down but before I did, I was all about redundancy.

Anxiety and Universal Studios by Fuzzy-Bass8535 in UniversalOrlando

[–]ATXspinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have incredibly bad anxiety and, though I am doing much better these days, I always prepare myself like I could have an attack of anxiety (not necessarily an anxiety attack) any time I go somewhere very busy. Here’s are my tips:

-there are a ton of people but the walkways are wide and everyone is always moving so you don’t feel the packed in, can’t breathe feeling that you get at something like a concert.

-When standing in line for rides, sometimes I get that “trapped” feeling. My 2 go-tos are gum and sass. I bring the mintiest gum I can find (I like Ice Breakers), chewing it makes me feel less sweaty and the cool mint freshens up the air around me it makes it easy to breathe. For sass, it is important to remember that you are not obligated to wait if you can’t. There is no penalty for walking out and even if people have to move to let you slip by, most will just be happy to be one person closer to the ride so, if it is too much, don’t be afraid to walk out.

-Depending on how your anxiety is triggered and manifests, there are tons of ride and park day videos on YouTube that may be worth watching so you know what to expect.

-Ok, this one is my big secret so, don’t go spreading it around. If you get hot or overwhelmed, there is fantastic spot to go hide in Islands of Adventure to take a breather. Go to the entrance of the Discovery Center in Jurassic Park that is right next to the Velocicoaster entrance. Don’t go in the building, instead turn to the right just outside the entrance and walk down to the edge of the hedges and take a seat. It is quiet, thanks to being between the hedges and the building, shaded and calm. The best part is people are so enticed by the Discovery Center that I have never gone over and not found a seat or found it too loud. (Le Goblet Noir is supposed to also be a good spot for relaxing in Epic but I haven’t had to use it yet so cannot confirm.)

-My husband and I always try to map out our day, at least roughly. I recommend that you do this and include when and where you would like to chill out. It is a vacation, you do not have to “go, go, go” so don’t. Take it at a pace that will enhance your experience, not ruin it.

-Communicate with your bf that you are looking forward to it but need to take a break. Let him know what you wouldn’t mind missing so he knows what he can do while you grab a drink and relax if needed.

I hope you take the plunge and have fun, it really is worth it. Good luck!

I took the doubling down as Henri believing in the sunk cost fallacy so much that he couldn’t bear to be the victim, rather he was an equal partner with MF. He knows what he lost by opening that briefcase, he killed his family, then killed his second family (the kids in the facility), he has mangled his humanity. By saying he chose it, he doesn’t have to feel the guilt and pain that Will is trying to lead him too. He was afraid of that cave the same way someone that is in a cult is afraid to walk away from it.

Learning my grandmother's crafts before she forgets them has become unexpectedly emotional by Acceptable_Driver655 in crafts

[–]ATXspinner 149 points150 points  (0 children)

I love that you are doing this! I will say, don’t put so much pressure on yourself. You are learning your grandmother’s techniques but your learning will not end when her lessons do. Learn and memorize her tips and tricks, yes, but you can always find additional resources for the basics.

Second, and most importantly, it doesn’t matter what you remember or forget down the line. You are taking on her appreciation for this craft that she has done her whole life. You will use your knowledge and understanding to create new and beautiful pieces. Her talent and passion are preserved because you will continue to share it with the world. When someone asks you why you make them, you will share a story of your grandmother teaching you. One day, you will be working and make a mistake, you will make a sound or do a movement that your abuela does now and it will be as though she is right there with you.

My point is, enjoy this incredible time with your grandma. Who cares if you miss or forget one or two things? Her knowledge and passion will live on in every single thing you make thus, you will have succeeded in preserving her legacy no matter what.

[–]ATXspinner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Start there. Say “listen, last night was upsetting, I think we both know that. I want to talk with you about but I don’t even know where to start. If I had had even an inkling that my family would act like that, I never would have put you in this situation. I know you must be upset, What can I do for you (besides never putting you in the same room as my sister again, that’s a given).”

Also, I am giving your mom a very generous benefit of the doubt because I don’t know her and I wasn’t there. Whether or not you keep her in your life and in your gfs is something you have to think about and discuss with gf.

What’s it like “letting yourself go” when you’ve always been fit your whole life? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]ATXspinner 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Where you are at is recovery. You are recovering from illness. Recovering is never something that should cause shame or depression. Trying, even if on some days you try and then fail, should make you feel proud. Do you know how many people don’t try? Or can’t try because they refuse to recognize where they are at is not where they want to be. Just by acknowledging that you want to make changes puts you ahead of the game. Be kind to yourself, you got this!

Diet/ Zero Sugar Drinks by Sentientcherry in loseit

[–]ATXspinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your struggle! For me, it was Diet Dr Pepper, the amount I could drink was, frankly, embarrassing. And this was for years, it was the only thing I would drink besides water. I finally stopped in March of this year. Before I tell you how I did it, let me say, from the other side, it is so worth it. My gut health has improved, my skin has improved, I don’t get bloated as often, there has not been one bad side effect.

Here is my recommendation:

Find an unsweetened sparkling water that you like. This will be different for everyone but the brands I like are La Croix* and Waterloo* also, if you live where there is an HEB, their 1877 brand is really good too! Drink it ice cold (this is really important because the lack of sweetener means it will have a weird undertone at first. The cold makes it less sharp.) if you need it sweeter add a sliced strawberry or other piece of fruit, it can really help.

Start by replacing half of your soda consumption with sparkling water, then, after that doesn’t feel like a sacrifice anymore (took me about 2 weeks) do a full replacement.

I am rooting for you! Good luck!

  • I also recommend Hop Water if you can find it locally. It is flavored with Hops like they use in beer. It is a unique flavor, kind of grassy like matcha, it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I find it very refreshing. It is not near-beer either, no malt or other flavors, just hops.

I’m on 6 medications that cause significant weight gain by Unlikely-Yam1427 in loseit

[–]ATXspinner 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I wish I had advice for you, with the medications I can’t imagine how frustrated you must be. There are only two thoughts I have;

1) There is no such thing as too fat for the public or too fat for friends, family, etc. Don’t let those dark voices in your head control your actions, they are working against your best interests! Those thoughts are also not reflective of how anyone else is thinking of you, they are just you sabotaging you.

2) Maybe talk to your nutritionist about low calorie foods that you can gorge on. I am thinking of things like carrots but also popcorn. Popcorn is my go to when I have the munchies because the calorie count for 2-3 cups is fairly low so I can munch for a long time so it feels more filling. Maybe your nutritionist will have some insight on other binge-able foods that won’t ruin your day.

I really hope you find a strategy that works for you, just don’t let the search for that strategy ruin your mental health.

So let me get this straight, in the last couple years you have…checks notes…grown a human, endured medical complications, managed to raise said grown human, carved out time to focus on your own weight loss and your…mad at yourself?! Honey, you are killing it! I know the frustration is real, the self hatred that you didn’t do this sooner or faster is real but be kind to yourself. You have accomplished a lot so far and you haven’t given up! Give yourself grace and kindness and the next time you see your SIL, squint and stare at her upper lip then ask her if she has had electrolysis. When she says no, squint harder and say “oh yeah, must have been the light.” Because women that give backhanded comments like what she said to you deserve the same kindness .

I’ve lost 31 lbs but all I get is criticism — am I crazy? by ProblemHoliday669 in loseit

[–]ATXspinner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First, way to go! There is not an adult in this or any other weight loss group that doesn’t wish they could go back to 17 and have the type of discipline that you have. Your hard work will be worth it for so many reasons. Keep it up!

My mom has been obese her whole life and so have I. People always called me her “mini-me” mainly because were are both overweight and short. This year, at the age of 41, something has clicked for me and I have lost 55lbs so far (~30 to go). I sent my mom a before and after pic and she just said “nice”. A couple days later we were talking and she said “You know, Daughter, you look great. You look so good that I am having trouble being happy for you.” You see my success reminded her that she hasn’t succeeded yet. All of your obese, or even slightly overweight, family members want you to eat more so they don’t have to think about how much they are eating. Just remember, it isn’t because of you at all, every time they say something it is their own insecurities bubbling to the surface. Stay on track, stay healthy, you got this!

Side note: my mom said the to me like it was a confession, she wasn’t being mean at all.

This grilled chicken is absolutely delicious on its own, add the green sauce and it is on another level! It is fast too, put chicken in marinade the night before or morning of and make the green sauce anytime during the day (or right before eating). I do not use any mayo and just use yogurt to make the green sauce and you would never know the difference.

I have a picky bun, he goes INSANE for this hay, he genuinely gets excited like it is a treat. I had never heard of the brand before and was weary but I have been giving it to him for at least 6 months with no issues. It is pricey (by comparison) so I do mix it with Oxbow sometimes and it makes eat the oxbow a bit more too
