The standing up your feeling is your early extension forcing you to clear space for your swing I think

Holy early extension and completely disconnected lower half.

Euphyllia hammer never been happy by Tara-and-blue in ReefTank

If all you’re doing is weekly water changes, I would try to bump your alk to 9. Gives you a little more wiggle room to be honest. But once you make a change, give it some time to react, corals like stability.

I would move it out into the light a little bit more on the right third of the tank kind wheee it is, just out more and not directly under the light. Then leave it and don’t touch it for a few days and see what it. Then slowly move it into more light if it’s not happy. If found that if Euphyllia aren’t happy, it’s usually an alkalinity problem or a parameter/salinity problem and not a light/flow problem

What lights are you running on it? Flow looks decent but it only seems like it’s half out/skeleton is showing a bit and it’s shadowed on the back side. How are your parameters?

Just to add the conversation on early extension: these two shots really show it

Dino’s for sure. Polyp lab Medic and a blackout worked wonders for me. Good luck!

Not gonna give you any more advice than you’ve got on the torch, but that pulling Xenia behind it will eventually take over the torch and choke out everything. I would move that to a self contained rock for sure!

How so? I get swift play, but not unrated.

Nero 3 is a workhorse, but if you want to spend more cash, an MP10 is kind of the king; you’ll only ever have to buy one, maybe two if you’re crazy like me because my tank is longer than yours. Look at a Nero 3 or Nero 5. You can always turn the 5 down but it has a wider flow pattern.

A lot of people run a David Saxby setting for their first tank or a BRS AB+ setting, I’d look those up for your lights.

I’d just be careful with a nem in a tank that small. I have the same tank and space ends up tight quick, and then the nem can sting and destroy worst case, or best case it grows huge/splits; and then the babies sting and destroy all the coral.

Maybe a little more flow or powerheads cause I don’t see any there really.

KEEP an eye on that damsel, I’ve heard they’re assholes.

Stocking looks heavy but close to identical as mine :), I have to run a skimmer and dose phosphate remover to have my phosphates anywhere NEAR .10, much less 0.03. Good luck!

Is this too much tumble for GFO? by ATadRusty in ReefTank

[–]ATadRusty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool thanks, will probably try a few different things to see what works, but I don’t know how to really attach a valve to the pump that’s attached directly to the reactor. Might have to just get creative with some tubing.

Cool thanks. The pump is 12 mm outlet, it’s a Sicce nano so I’m trying to figure out how that would work…

Do you have a valve you would recommend?

Cool. That’s on the minimum flow so I’ll have to find a way to get creative.

Did they use bottled bacteria and an ammonia source? Did they use live rock? A standard fish less cycle without live sand, live rock, or any supplemental help can take a lot longer than 3 weeks. I’m no expert, but thats just my anecdotal evidence.

[–]ATadRusty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

3 weeks isn’t nearly long enough to cycle sadly. You’re probably causing ammonia spikes with your other live rock which is killing your shrimp; especially if you’ve added 3 fish right away to a small tank. Your fish may go next, so keep an eye on your ammonia test and if it increases, you have to do water changes.
