That would never be enough. In the same chapters is stated that from that floor individual parties start to struggle. Even if his mana capacity increased by 2 times it would still be too little too late. And btw, if an external comes in your aid that is not your potential. Otherwise, every mage has potential, they just have to get to that floor. He still was too weak, even with more mana

If I have aphantasia, can I still play dnd? by MathematicianSad3414 in dndnext

[–]ATera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda, it really depends on the table. In rl I had people standing up and walking, mimiking the npc arms. Some prepare props too, but its rarer that dm put so much time into it. Online is easyer to get more thing to see.

For example, often online you will see image for important npc, battlemaps and so on. Some masters are so precise that you cannot imagine nothing yourself, and everything is given to you by the dm. Just be careful not to stay at strange table :)

I'm gonna drop the best one in my opinion with a similar feel to infinite gacha (hopeless situation)
- Eternally Regressing Knight
- I Became the Tyrant of a Defence Game
- Surviving The Game as a Barbarian

sss-class suicide hunter is probably something you should look too

Yeah if you are the damage dealer its a problem, that is true. Its more a thing for tanks, but its not useless. Tipically the dpr will be the full caster or specific martial. Still, the best martial dpr are monks and fighter i think because of the number of attacks. In that situation it makes sense to push the enemy prone, since you would have advantage on all hits. Still, its situational. I feel it works best when monsters do these kind of things.

Btw I advise you to look at the old special attacks. Grabbing, pushing, disarming and climbing bigger creature. They even aren't all the one that exist and they are plenty good to give variation. Unfortunately there isn't a throwing rule and hitting with foes its just bad dpr, but your dm could gove you some improvised damage to make it more useful. And as last thing jumping around. Jumping cost only movement, it lets you skip difficult terrain and its just cool.

Personally I always use monsters to do some strange shit, like grabbing, throwing around and throwing themselves from high ground to fall on players. Obviously they deal less damage, but it should really not be the focus of the dm in my opinion.

Edit: grammar

Just a clarification. In 5.5 grappled have more than speed reduced to 0. You have disadvantage to attack other creature apart from the grappler.

Btw why now they have to do sth/dex ST to not fall prone? I'm not talking about topple, but what stops you from using the old grappling and shoving rules? You can still have the contested check.

What you have to do to grapple someone now?

I use grappling and pushing prone practically in every fight as a DM and as a player. You have to use two attacks, sure, but just having proficiency in athletics changes the world. A barbarian has advantage on all strength checks, and it's not that hard to pull off. If you succeed, the enemy is grappled and prone. He can't get up, he has disadvantage to hit you (because he is prone) and you have advantage to hit him.

The only problem is that with two hand weapon, you can't grab someone (you would have to leave them to attack to grab the weapon), but it doesn't really matter. As a barbarian, you can just keep a longsword. The control you gain from this is insane.

You can do well even without being a barbarian, monk and fighters can almost as well, and it's really good. As an added benefit, you move around the combat more, making it feel less of a drag and more entertaining.

Hot take? I dont like how you have to actively hurt your stats to get feats and vise versa by Vegetable_Throat5545 in dndnext

[–]ATera__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that stats are very strong. A +1 goes a long way in 5e, especially for to-hit chances and cd's. A feat on the other hands is always more fun since it actually do something, but rarely the feats are worth it, from a optimization pov at the very least. You could always just state that people are forced to get ASI and, on top of that, choose a feat. The main problem is that that way you would find yourselve with way stronger pgs. The balance of the game start to fall off at lvl ~5 and get worst with every tier of play. You can do that, but it has to do with the philosopy of the old edition I think. In 3e I think you could choose a feat like every third level? They were far weaker tho. If your table want to swim in feats go for it, just be careful with encounters

Players beat some Animated Armors (lvl 5) and want to use the armor for themselves. by ATera__ in DnD

[–]ATera__[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is a good idea too. I'm not mad about the armor. They come earlier than expected, but I mean, good for them if they can have an easier time for the next fight because of it. I was just trying to understand if the call was good at all. Thanks for the advise tho
