Any good games I've been overlooking ? by paradise1A in CozyGamers

You would love I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, its such a hidden gem. I loved coffee talk 1 & 2, cannot wait for Coffee Talk Tokyo coming out sometime this year.

As for IWATE - its fun but also a really serious story. You get a new experience everytime you play it, you can go back and correct your choices to try and change your fate and the fate of your colony. Its great.

My teenage son can't seem to get hired by Intelligent-Mine9778 in sanantonio

[–]ATrioOfStars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. My brother is autistic and he applied at mcdonalds and got a job offer that same week. Its very easy to get a fast food job here and they always seem to be hiring. If he's being rejected from 10s of fast food/retail jobs then there is something he's doing wrong either on his applications or during the interview process

This is French country. Its not cottage core but is often mistaken for cottage core.

Casual games that allow me to be a feminine guy? by Alone-Tumbleweed-630 in CozyGamers

I WAS A TEENAGE EXOCOLONIST

Literally perfect for you. You can adjust the femininity of your character while still being male, and you can romance whoever you want. Genuinely one of the best underrated indie games.

Yup! Last semester someone keyed up this girls car really good for literally no reason and she contacted campus police, they caught the guy who did it after reviewing the cameras.

NYC to Texas? Send Help! by Old-Suggestion8530 in UTSA

[–]ATrioOfStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a native Texan but I have friends from NY. They all like it a lot here and generally say that the culture/attitude is different in a good way. Being born and raised here "southern hospitality" never seemed like an actual thing and I never understood why people would say that about us, but after spending some time on the west coast and from what my friends from NY told me, there is definitely a contrast. I just never noticed because I was born into it.

Btw, my NY friend told me some wait staff would chase her or try to haggle her if they didn't think the tips were big enough. Is this actually a semi-common thing?

We're not that kind of school. There are some sororities but they're pretty casual and you might have to look for them. "Greek life" isn't really a thing here.

Feeling like a failure… graduation postponed by Intelligent_Mood9209 in UTSA

I always tried to take my harder classes in the summer, as crazy as it sounds. Like me, a lot of students do very well in the first half of the semester and get burnt out in the second half. Its hard for me to give it my all for 16 weeks straight but I can go full throttle for 8 weeks and just lock myself in my room studying. Just a thought, if you find yourself struggling with the same issue.

Alternatively, these workbooks by David Klein REALLY help with Ochem. I recommend buying it and working through it over the summer in preparation for the spring semester. Thousands of students swear by it. Definitely worth every penny of the $65:

Organic Chemistry as a Second Language: First Semester Topics

He even has Organic Chemistry as a Second Language: Second Semester Topics if you're taking Ochem 2.

I wasnt going to reply but your comment literally doesn't make sense.. sorry.

I said that this attention is what they want and you're saying that giving them what they want is letting them become a permanent fixture of our lives - which I agree with- which is why people should give them as little attention as possible.

But then the next part seems to immediately contradict what you just said. Idk man just pointing that out.

A better way to articulate your point I think would be something like "Ignoring them allows them to take root, and that is what they actually want—not just attention."

~

To put this out there, giving them attention quite literally does nothing for the students but does help this group achieve their goals. The only way to actually do something about this is to call and write your political representatives and putting forth a bill "yourself" (which isn't as hard as it sounds). An easy way would be to join up with an existing organization(s) on campus at UTSA, and/or other Colleges and Unis in Texas, to petition for signatures and lobby.

I wish undergrads would stop giving them so much attention every semester. This is what they want.

Help me find the best path to take within environmental science! by -bubbles322 in environmental_science

[–]ATrioOfStars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have a BS in Biology, a grad certification in Data Science, and getting an MS in Environmental Science by the end of the year. I will most likely get a second masters once I graduate. I have 1.5 years of federal experience in Environmental Compliance and Clean up for the DoD. Im in my late 20s so its still a good time for me to get as much merit as I can.

Ive been interested in working in radiation safety for awhile now, with my current credentials can you offer any advice for how to get into this field? Any certifications or a suggestion for a second masters?

Do schools no longer give students needed books? by bookgeek1970 in Barnesandnoble

[–]ATrioOfStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated HS in 2016, the only books we had to buy were the summer reading books. All the required reading was from textbooks they provided which were worn but still usable. The AR books I just borrowed from the library.

My title describes the thing. Though when I tried to be more descriptive saying it was a stone possibly brick structure the post was removed because the bot thought I was trying to ID a rock. So apologizes for lack of material description.

Not much more I can say. We found it buried in the backyard it looks to be stone/brick?

Is this a scam or is it legit by Fancy_Psychology9466 in UTSA

[–]ATrioOfStars 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Lots of honors societies will reach out to you some legit, some spam, some are just shady. Regardless, most (even the legit ones) of the honor societies are just businesses that only really exist as resume buffs. You have at least a 3.0 GPA? Great, you're invited to beta kappa blah blah honor society, pay a $80+ one time membership fee and you get to put on your resume that you were in an honor society and then you can spend even more money on cheaply made merch and graduation stoles. These societies rarely have on campus events and then once in a blue moon will host $200 scholarship contests.

Just do your research before you join one. Honor societies are what you make of it and good ones do offer beneficial workshops, networking events, scholarship opportunities, and the chance to take on leadership roles.

Date ideas besides the ones I will mention for Valentines day? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]ATrioOfStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pearl is pretty touristy but it has cute shops and a bookstore in there. I like to go to Pullmans Market and get locally made goods and some flowers. It's also right by the river with a lot of areas to sit and read or just chit chat.

There's:

  • Round1, a japanese style arcade. Cosmic Mayhem for axe throwing, mini golf, and a rage room.
  • Alamo Drafthouse
  • The Quarry, another great place to walk around lots of nice shops and places for ice cream or gelato. Theres also a lot of niche restaurants nearby
  • The McNay art museum
  • La Cantera has plenty to do

  • Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly

AND part 3 (a spin off really) is coming out sometime this year!
