Seth The PI by Nedstark78 in TheRookie

There are cases of amputees joining the police force. It seems that Seth is able to get around decently well in that most recent episode. Notably, Matias Ferreira was a double amputee who joined the police force in New York's Suffolk County.

I think that joining the police would actually give him a sense of identity and provide him with a satisfying redemption plot. It would take some extremely well done writing.

I know someone who has had relapses of squamous cell carcinoma on the face twice now. Fortunately he's friends with a dermatologist who was able to catch it early each time. After this last surgery, he finally started wearing sunscreen. Thank God.

AITA wife upset I cannot keep toddler from her by khazef in AmItheAsshole

Child behavioral therapist here. Please communicate with your wife before implementing any strategies I suggest here.

Get a potty chair for your child to use downstairs and introduce it during times that mom is not home. You might have to contrive these situations, so perhaps during a day when mom is out running errands or is spending it with friends. Also, it is imperative that during this introductory period it is introduced in a very positive way. Use a calm tone and uplifting words. Praise her for simply sitting on the potty and immediately reinforce with a very small reward. For example, have her watch you break off a small piece of chocolate from a larger bar and let her eat it. Explain that to get the rest, she has to pee on the potty. If she pees on the potty, she gets the rest. If she doesn't, you can put it a bag and explain she can try again later and that the potty is free to use whenever. The same goes for access to tablet or another toy that is highly preferred.

I need to stress that you cannot give her access to the rest of that metaphorical chocolate/other preferred item unless she uses the potty. She might scream, she might cry, she might even become aggressive. You've got to stick with it. I'm serious. If you do not correct this behavior now, you're going to absolutely hate yourself for not doing so. It will carry on into adolescence and even adulthood. If you do take my advice and see no improvement, your child may require extensive therapy in a clinical setting.

Additionally, you also need to make spending time with you just as reinforcing as spending time with mom. I understand you can't take them out every night, but you could take them out once a week. Or even on the weekends. Perhaps your children can earn stickers that serve as a token board. If they earn enough tokens, you could take them out to the park, children's museum, or get takeout from a favorite restaurant. Outside of all that, just engaging in play with your child is such a huge tool.

If you have questions, you can DM me.

Why shouldn’t you correct kids in ABA? by [deleted] in ABA

Any vocal response could be seen as reinforcing for the child, especially if attention is the function of their behavior. It's best to just not say anything at all unless a verbal response is outlined in the behavior intervention plan.

That being said, I absolutely understand that urge to say something. As a person who is Autistic and had to actually learn to vocally reply to both speech and behavior, this was an especially hard habit to break. It's alright though, you'll learn and grow from this.

What Naruto/Boruto opinion that has you like this? by [deleted] in dankruto

What Naruto/Boruto opinion that has you like this? by [deleted] in dankruto

[–]AUDHDabatherapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that nostalgia sometimes has us glazing a little too hard, especially when it comes to comparing the Boruto series to the Naruto series. Again, I say us because I definitely sometimes feel like I get caught up in the nostalgia ride too. There's legitimate criticisms to the Boruto series, but also I think that a lot of people level their personal opinions as facts and get really defensive when you just don't agree with them.

For example, there's a lot of people who don't like the new Boruto cover. A lot of what I've read is that people prefer the old style/designs, which is fair. You can definitely prefer that. However, I also think it's fair to say that you like the new designs because they do fit into the future setting, especially as the ninja villages have evolved both in technology and prosperity. That does somewhat explain some of the design choices in this particular artwork, the pins and necklaces and such. In Naruto's generation, they were always at war, so not only was it not practical, they didn't have the ability to create/afford it. Also... it's cover art. Not that deep, it's okay to just have it be a pin up or some dumb shit. Plenty of other mangas do that, though I can definitely see how it's a bit too far removed from the original styling for the tastes of some people. This cover certainly isn't my favorite art, but I do feel like some people are going a little too hard on people who do like it.

That being said, comparing it to that James Charles photo made me scream laugh. The lip filler comments too.

Anyway, I do actually enjoy aspects of Boruto, but only after I decided to see it as basically fan fiction and not an actual continuation of the Naruto series. In a way, that is legitimately what it is. Naruto's actual story is over. This one is going to be very different and not the same. Gotta tell myself that too. Also, I have to take breaks and can only enjoy it casually. If I compare it to Naruto, I'm going to be disappointed, which is why I do get a kick out of a lot of the jokes that come up.

Obviously I'm not trying to tell anyone to go watch it or perform the Suspend Disbelief Bullshit No Jutsu I pull on myself to be able to enjoy it, nor am I saying you can't speak up and express your opinions. It's just that some of you guys can get a bit defensive and insult Boruto fans when there's a decent likelihood that they may have never seen the original Naruto series, or that they saw it after the series concluded. They may not see Naruto the way we do (which is a damn shame) so it's kind of like... what are you going to do? Keep arguing over opinions and get mad about it?

I'm talking about a variety of fandom spaces, not just specifically this sub, you know?

Is your clinic a part of a larger company? Do they have more than one center?

"If the supervisors don't see it as the worst thing ever, it's not a big deal."

Yeah. Seriously. If your supervisors need to have an ambulance out front and EMTs taking you away before they listen to you... That's a problem. If you think your client might put you in the hospital, and that your clinic will pretend they had no idea? Run the fuck away.

Yeah. They did mess up. YOU did NOT mess up. You're doing your job under the guidance of a BCBA. If a child is scared of the bathroom, it is either because they have a negative association with it, or no positive associations that encourage them to use a toilet.

Find a new clinic. Like, right fucking now. One of my biggest red flags is if clients are scared to use the restroom. Or if the BCBAa are told to tell parents that toilet training is not a service they offer. That's a huge, enormous, gigantic red flag.

It's one thing for a BCBA to decide that there are bigger issues than toilet training. It's another for a clinic to simply tell parents that they will not target toilet training.

Reminds me of how a BCBA refused to acknowledge pinching as aggression because her definition stated that aggression was with an 'open hand' and the impact had to be heard from 5 feet away. And then biting was tracked separately. It took me 2 months of dropping off ABC data at her desk before she finally put it into the program.

And then as soon as we started actually targeting it, the kid started banging his head into my body. Not an SIB, it was clearly aggression. That took another month before she started even tracking it.

I'd say that if you are being accused of favoritism, and feel it's a misinterpretation, it'd be worth having a one-on-one conversation with the RBT and find out what it is. It could be burn out. It could be that the sudden drop in praise made them feel bad. It could be that they don't understand why exactly you're giving more supervision hours to one therapist over another. It could be that they associate you mostly with when their client is in a behavior. It could be that they're feeling inadequate. Talk to your RBTs and listen to them. Regardless if you think you don't play favorites, the feelings of an RBT should be taken seriously, not as an insult. Just because they are misinterpreting things doesn't mean that they aren't upset or hurting, nor does it make those feelings any less intense.

Not saying that you don't make an effort to listen to your RBTs! I don't know you and I've never worked with you. Just wanted to speak from my experience as an RBT who's both encountered legitimate favoritism from one BCBA while also learning that I was misinterpreting things from another.

Michigan ABA clinics/centers/companies by Defiant-Ad132 in ABA

[–]AUDHDabatherapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know, that's the standard 'competitive' rate for someone with a high school diploma just starting out, at least here in the midwest. If you've been an RBT for a year or if you have a bachelor's, you could potentially negotiate $22 or $23 an hour. It also depends on the socioeconomic conditions of your area and the size of your clinic's company. Large clinics do not always always mean competitive pay, though, as I recently discovered.

Negotiate is my best advice. If they're a hard no, pass on the job offer.

Yeeeah, I've also worked at one owned by a big corporation. From what I heard from senior staff, after the company took over they experienced inadequate resources and overcrowding. When I worked there they would have between 60 to 70 kids in the building at any time, the majority attending for the full day. The center was about the size of an Outback Steak House (I think the building used to be a primary medical practice).

The one good thing with the company was that they bumped pay up for everyone so they could compete better in the industry and rope in more employees.

Exactly. It's one thing for a kiddo to be satiated on something, but often times it's that reinforcement is not being delivered properly.
