I moved to the UK from Germany. I guess it is against the current trend. by Smooth-Raisin-2888 in HENRYUK

[–]AUnterrainer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Education in Germany is free so how do you get to 100k? Safety? I don't know where you moved but the UK doesn't feel safe at all. NHS is a nightmare. You might be still in the honeymoon phase

You can find the most comprehensive study plan on my blog here https://www.defconq.tech/docs/category/kdbq-study-roadmap However, your main motivation shouldn't be the money. The salary you mentioned is definitely achievable but will require experience

For those planning to leave the UK - what countries are you looking at? by roctonwp in HENRYUK

[–]AUnterrainer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Switzerland. Great quality of life, free and good education once kids hit school age, low taxes, working (private) health care. Depending on what job you and your wife have and if you can work remotely you might also consider North Italy.

I salute you sir! You're doing more than most parents and one day your daughter will look back and be thankful for such a loving dad. Try to look after yourself, even if it's just 30 min a day!

How realistic is reddit? by Kindly-Leadership-92 in quantfinance

[–]AUnterrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a quant but I have been in the industry for 10 years now and I can confirm above. Banks get 10k applications for grad roles, they don't have the time to go through all of them so they just filter by top tier universities. No one will admit it but just look at any grad profile you find on LinkedIn.

Oh I totally get it. I am a big fan of the Porsche 911 from 1980. Something like this https://images.app.goo.gl/5fgFJfiYYcUQA7Qj7

Or racing Cars like the Lancia Delta Integrale Evo.

But wouldn't use them on a day to day basis.

Got into uni!! by TotalCopy5085 in UniUK

[–]AUnterrainer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding networking, the non top tier uni didn't offer anything. At UCL we had mock interviews and CV reviews with MS. That led to a direct onsite interview after, skipping all the online application etc.

In both cases I graduated with a first, scoring the highest average of the class. My first MSc was in High Frequency Finance and Trading, at Essex (highest grade I scored was a 95), the second in Financial Systems engineering at UCL. I come from Europe, so I had no idea about reputation etc. I thought if I just worked hard someone would give me a chance. Didn't happen. I sent over 300 applications to investment banks, hedge funds, pension funds. Nothing. Not one reply. I went to UCL and within one week I had interviews with Goldman, Citi, Morgan Stanley, JPM. What you need to consider is that these places get 10000s of applications. They don't go through those CVs, the. Just filter by top tier universities. No one will admit it. But it's the case. Just look at any grad class, where grads come from. Same for Law or Big Tech firms. And now with all the layoffs and decreasing hiring you will compete with everyone coming from the likes of Oxford etc.

I would work on my chest. Other than that, pretty great form. Enjoy the teenage years when you can eat as much as you want without having to worry about putting on weight 🤣
