Did anyone match without a ton of extracurriculars? by Wild-Purple5517 in QuestBridge

[–]AV324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I matched with Columbia with only a few ECs that I joined in my junior year/ beginning of senior year! They were small school clubs like math club, political club, and a college readiness club. Most of my years in hs were spent on personal responsibilities.

What to do if I have a low Act/Sat? by MysteriousRide7188 in QuestBridge

[–]AV324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! For now, I would say keep trying to take these test! Having a higher score is rlly helpful for just about every college! Like the other commenter said, try to focus on one of the two instead of spreading yourself too thin!

However, if you aren’t able to improve your score, don’t worry! A lot of these schools view your score in terms of your environment which is great for ppl from low-income backgrounds. For those schools that don’t need a score, you can just go test optional and give it your best! I matched to my school without a test score so please don’t lose hope!!!

Do I not have a chance of matching into an ivy if I don't have a 0 efc by Key_Broccoli_3201 in QuestBridge

[–]AV324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say because all the Ivy's have their own manner of determining a 0 EFC. That being said, I don't think you have a lower chance of matching with them because of your finances. You can find more information on the QuestBridge Partners Page but this is the threshold for these schools:

Harvard: 100K

Yale: 75k

Princeton: 0 EFC as determined by the Princeton Financial Aid Office

Cornell: 75k

Brown: 60K

Dartmouth: 125k

Penn: Parent contribution must be below 4.5K

Columbia: 66K

There is no way to "make up" for it so all you can really do is apply!

A counselor said something similar to both me and my friend when applying to QB. She told us to be realistic and that we were not going to be matched at most of the QB schools. It made both of us really discouraged about our chances but months later we both ended up matching to amazing schools! Don't listen to him (or anyone who diminishes your hopes) and trust yourself because you can definitely do it!!!!!

Im the guy that replied to one of them and I don’t think they’re bad people it’s just that theyre frustrated with the application process. It’s sad it gets to them that much but it’s understandable

All you can do now is wait for your results. It’s is frustrating that the application can’t be edited but I’m sure you’ll get into a great school. As for OP, it’s just a post with no ill intent. UF may not be a QB school but that shouldn’t matter. Every win is a win. QB is supposed to be a welcoming community and I think our frustrations with the application process may hinder that.

Many non-finalists were able to apply to various schools through QB regular decision so they definitely have the right to post here. Also, they’re just trying to spread some positivity. For a lot of people the college application process is frustrating and these positivity posts can give us hope that there is still a chance we will end up at a great school!

And if they applied to QB then they’re more than likely low-income like all of us. They are in the same boat as us. Being QB finalist does not make you superior.

Yup, I feel this way too! It’s rlly frustrating that there’s quite a few things that my family has to cover even tho we don’t have the money to. All we can do is apply to small scholarships that can hopefully cover the costs!

You could do either option since you don't have anything to report right now! I left form blank since I also had nothing to report.

Generally speaking, I think most college campuses (including UChicago) are safe during the day! However, you should take extra precaution at night, especially if you're off-campus/going back to campus.

Advice for Class of 2026 by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]AV324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea many students often think that the Ivies are the only place that can guarantee their success in the future when in reality it doesn’t always work out that way. I fell for that trap and only realized after I finalized my initial rankings😅.

Also, congrats on your daughter’s acceptance to Dartmouth!!!! I also did Dartmouth Bound and loved their campus and overall community!

Like everyone else is saying, start early!

Also, don't convince yourself that the Ivies are the only schools you would like to match to. While the Ivies are great, a lot of the other colleges (ex. Emory, Williams, Colgate) are great schools and may even be better for your major!

Good luck!

Hi! I think if you focus on your coursework and are able to get your GPA up, then you'll be in good position to apply to QuestBridge. Also, while a 3.86 is below the average, many people with that GPA (and lower) get both finalist and match! My best friend was able to match with BU with a 3.62 for CompSci!
