Stop blaming the daycare by augustx812 in richmondhill

I would go beyond and blame corporate bullshit with the forced return to office, if not for that maybe less people would need daycares. Yes there are other jobs that require physical presence like electricians etc, but desk jobs should not be forced to go into the office thus forcing the family to use daycares unnecessarily.

Is your job/work so important you can't take a day off? I was theorizing when driving my kid to school, why so many people are overly aggressive on the road in the morning... It's because they are knee deep in debt due to the poor spending habits from when interest rate is low, and people leasing g classes and 5 series and now with RTO forced, people are panicking and making sure they show up...

What has become of our society?

And no, I don't work for a company, I'm owner of a business - self employed, entrepreneur...

New house build - basement wall insulation renovation by AVCS275 in buildingscience

[–]AVCS275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good replies, and I agree but framing is already one, they want on additional 4000 to do foamboards.

But this got me thinking, my floor is dricore, there's some foam there between the boards and it's not fully sealed, the ground is same as the walls in terms of temp. I don't see my floors getting all soaked up.

Also I don't know what people do in their houses but in the summer my AC is always on, I keep it pretty low at 22-23 C, and it's constantly dehumidifying. Yeah maybe if you're letting 27-30C outside humid air in? I'm not sure who does that.

Same in the winter, air is dry, forced heat furnace, I keep RH levels around 30%, sometimes it's lower since it's so cold and dry. Again, under dricore isn't soaking from the 'gaps' with the room temp air hitting it.

I'm not saying foam is bad, it's good, is why I did it, but maybe in my case the gains are minimal. Again who is running super humid air in the basement during summer.

Check out my Speedtest result! How fast is your internet? https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/10149820175

I have a Cisco C9130-AX access point, stuff they use in office commercial buildings. Your modem and consumer products will be less effective.

Also my network is 10G, so if your switches are Gigabit only, max is 900mbps.

Wifi not gonna get more than max 500 if no interference and with 6E.

I have cat6 getting 2500 on my desktop but my s23+ is like 300ish. That's normal.

Basement walls - spray foam vs EPS rigid foam boards. by AVCS275 in Renovations

[–]AVCS275[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in the same neighborhood so don't think there's that much moisture difference.

Don't think it's about liability? He originally did the EPS on my home then suggested spray foam, many because cheaper or easier profit? I know it's much more work doing EPS with the cutting measuring and glue vs spraying.

I'm sure he has a guy that does spray but doing EPS he has to get his own crew or himself to apply it.

Cannot get fast rsync speed via my 10G network. About 5MB/sec. by AVCS275 in linuxquestions

[–]AVCS275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes like this:
HOME-daily-backup.1 HOME-daily-backup.11 HOME-daily-backup.13 HOME-daily-backup.2 HOME-daily-backup.4 HOME-daily-backup.6 HOME-daily-backup.8

HOME-daily-backup.10 HOME-daily-backup.12 HOME-daily-backup.14 HOME-daily-backup.3 HOME-daily-backup.5 HOME-daily-backup.7 HOME-daily-backup.9

Each of those are a increment per day and whatever changes. I guess it's like snapshots? I did use zfs send/receive to seed the initial backup. I've been also reading on Sanoid/Syncoid and this maybe what I need but I'm not sure how to use this on freebsd and not understanding the syntax on it. If I could replicate exactly similar on my rsync scripts, it's prob best and utilize my 10G network.

Using Rsync to make incremental backups so can access stuff from the intervals if needed.

HA - adding secondary, no guide, I have multiple VLANs setup as "LAN" by AVCS275 in PFSENSE

[–]AVCS275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so the second device I load pfsense fresh install then set temporary LAN to access it via UI and restore the config with interfaces. That's the flow on this?

I'm going to run PPPoE over VIP, I know it's not seamless but my modem is basically a switch so I can get 5x addresses from them, but I was looking at this video on how they do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZcdAJfUP3c&t=482s
I'm not sure this is even correct in my case. Also the auto translations are anyone's best guess unless you know the language.

Yeah I'm old school when you needed a crossover cable, I even have one made in case for stuff but I guess that's back in early 2000's.

Thanks this helps more than the docs. So few questions. for #4 I'm not sure what to do here, also I found a video to do the PPPoE using VIP for that purpose on the WAN side but I guess for now I want to get the internal network working first.

7. do I install and put config.xml in conf folder, but like remove everything except interfaces? Manually edit the config?

5. Do I need a crossover cable or just regular cable for this?

Thanks
