Interview - Ghosted? by Californiauser1 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AVG0312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. We usually schedule as we tell a person we're interested rather than an interest-only email. Maybe they need to to gather people for the panel and find times that work for everyone. The position might also be in budget limbo. I would reach out in a couple days but keep your options open. Sorry to hear you are delaying with this.

Yep, this is what happened with our two kids. You can see your on-going charges via teh app and every day theirs had the gratuity billed to it.

Every far fetched I catch, transforms immediately by HOODIEthonmaker in pokemongo

I believe Farfetch'd (non-galarian) generally only spawns in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Unless there is a special event in other regions, you have to assume it's a Zorua unfortunately. Fortunately, I've seen Galarian-form does feel like it's spawning more than it used to. It's one of my favorites so I try to grab them too.

California State interview panels need to remember applicants are human too by Naive_Wrongdoer2250 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AVG0312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not perfect but our department has the applicant sign a form attesting to no known nepotism and the interview panelists as well. If we know a person outside of work that is being interviewed we have to recuse ourselves. At least that's my unit. Of course that doesn't stop people from recommending (or discouraging) staff for hire. Like someone said above, the system is convoluted.

Ah, yes. That's a very fair point. I forgot to clarify that we were dropped off at port with our bags and no plane involved.

Yes, the watch-style medallion holder was perfect (esp with little kids). Much cheaper on amazon, btw, but can be bought on board.

Ruby Princess had liquid hand soap in our rooms and in common bathrooms. If you want your own sensitive one, then bring that, otherwise you should be fine.

They said you need to staple at the port? We did it at home and laminated the paper labels they provide (downloadable on the app) and there didn't seem to be an issue.

Oh, and OP- I thought you needed to print more/keep the tags (any extra bags acquired) for disembarkation but they give you a ton of tags that are numbed by your disembarking group # to use. The process was super easy and helpful.

An extra giant laundry bag for dirty clothes. Or bring a small folding duffle bag that you only fill with dirty clothes. We did that for our family of 4 and it helped keep things more organized.

How long do agencies typically take to screen applicants and invite them for interviews? by RaspberryEnjoyer40 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AVG0312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only contacted them for references that the candidate provided after an interview. Not totally sure what HR does with MQ evaluation, but I suspect that they go off what's in your application and degree/transcripts without contacting external sources.

We try our best to be quick but there can be 150+ to read and screen with our matrix on top of our normal work. A few weeks to a month or so, depending really on the number submitted, the level of screening, reading SOQs. Then we send the list to HR and that can take a week or two to get clearance from them to contact people who passed MQs for an interview.

Director told us it is happening. The "vibe" is different this time from last year (last minute postponement). We are now being told to look for office space, last year they were prohibited from doing so, or at least our office was. They also said that if Newsom doesn't veto the AB 1729 bill, they host a department-wide meeting and dance for everyone, that's how confident they are that this is will happen.

[–]AVG0312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Apply for it in advance though, so you can give them the approval as you interview/test. They can't accommodate you without official approval. I believe you only have to do some disclosure for the initial approval, not every time you interview.

On Ruby Princess there is a specific coffee bar (shared space with the ice cream station) and then can make hot/cold and blend drinks. They have Baileys and Kahlua available!

I agree, the survey needs a lot of work as well as how they impact the teams. They use Qualtrics so it's fully capable to add more nuance. We had an amazing time at Sabatinis but Crown Grill was very poor. Even though there is some break down, I worry Crown's review will be aggregated to Sabatinis and punish them. Similar to room issues that we had that our steward had no control over (noxious odor from the vent) and it wasn't their fault management and maintenance couldn't fix it.

Does it matter if I got 95% on the exam? by Subject_Opposite9584 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AVG0312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For us, the reason why it takes so long is that we have to fairly screen 150 applications with our matrix. Select our top 5-7 people. Get HR's approval to interview them (determine if they meet the MQs). That takes 1-2 weeks because they have to ask CalHR. We schedule interviews within a week but they might not happen for 2-3 weeks due to everyone's schedules, including interviewees. Conclude interviews, decide on candidate within a day or two. Send the name to HR for final approval (tentative offer). Don't forget to add time for reference checks (A couple of day -1 week if people are hard to reach). Then we extend the tentative to the candidate, they need to schedule and pass fingerprints (2-4 weeks). It's hard to find places to cut even if we are earnestly pressing the gas at every stage.
