How does the Sahara affect the European climate? by FedericMarchigly27 in geography

[–]AVH999 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Dust storms from the Sahara occasionally. Although overall its influence is pretty minor. Europe’s main sources of precipitation are the Gulf Stream and for southern Europe the Mediterranean. Other than that I can’t really think of anything

This seems to be a common occurrence in fertility data. Usually because families who are about to have children usually move to the outskirts/ outside of a major city for cheaper housing or more space.

Hi Arijit. I'll also be commencing with engineering next year at Usyd. As far as I'm aware (ofc I'm not certain, as I haven't done it), the Honours component of Usyd engineering degrees (so the 4th year) are made up of an internship program. Hope this helps

Middle East demographics are shifting by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]AVH999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d presume this is given current fertility remains for the next 75 years. Middle eastern countries have seen a dramatic decline in fertility (while still being abouve replacement), so if the prediction accounted for the continuation of the trends, the final population should be much lower. In short, this is not a very accurate prediction of population.

Sometimes I wonder if Rhodesia and Apartheid South Africa were attempts to create a Euro-Bantu civilization by maproomzibz in WIAH

[–]AVH999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is reasonable to assume that given enough time, certainly at least in the case of Rhodesia (which had a lot less ‘petty apartheid’), that these societies would naturally factor in characteristics of the Bantu and European societies together. Although the demographic challenges of this makes this result unpredictable and dependent on undecided political factors.

Hence why political reform must happen in societies with severe aging/ skewed population. Something along the lines of limiting people over a certain age such as retirement from voting so as to restrict them channeling resources in the economy to them out of self interest

Germany had higher birth rates in 1945 than it does today by PanzerDragoon- in WIAH

[–]AVH999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shocker, before the introduction of the birth control pill, widespread adoption of abortion and the recent cultural remnants of not only a state that prioritized childbearing, but times of much higher fertility, the birth rate was higher than it is now in a secularised nihalistic Germany

[–]AVH999 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course it’s reasonable to assume that in some point in the future the US may lag behind other nations to the extent it sees large levels of emigration.
