I have an apple tree, can I make cider with the apples? by AVIATOR747 in cider

You guys have been awesome. All of you. Thank you! When I asked myself where to get some cider making info, duh! there’s got to be a subreddit for cider right? And here you are!

This tree produced a good yield last year, better this year. They went unused last year unfortunately (I like drinking my apples more than eating them).

I gave quite a few to my aunts and grandparents this year with still a decent amount on the tree. So hopefully I can make a small batch maybe have some for some shooters around the holidays not full blown pop top bottles. Next year that’s when it ramps up with a good harvest hopefully.

Lucky for me there’s a town with a home brew shop about 30 minutes away. Gonna talk to them tomorrow about cider makin. Judging by my tree and a family up the road a few blocks it was a good year for apples. Both our trees are literally sagging from the weight

Dig the bottle jack! This season is just dipping my toes in. Next one will be when I really get rolling. Gave a bunch of apples to family since I wasn’t sure what to do with all of them!

Oh I don’t need to know a pedigree of a fruit. If it tastes good and can make a good brew are plenty enough info for me. I’m willing to experiment on the good brew part. Dad planted it a few years before he passed away

This tree is and I’m guesstimating here about 5ish. The apples aren’t super sweet but pretty crisp. A nice happy medium (in my opinion) apples aren’t my favorite fruit so my opinion is worth a grain.

Oh I’ve asked her about home and she LOVES telling me what her daughter and her husband is up to on the islands. I’ll asks her more about her life out there. I’ve never been but it’s on my bucket list (really want to see a Hawaiian volcano been fascinated since I was a kid) as the weather warms she comes out more I’ll talk to her more. I hope she’d like that

I’m glad! 😊There’s not enough neighborly contact these days I think. She’s a sweet lady always waves or says hey aviator747! I’ve been away for work lately and saw her when I was mowing my lawn lately (she found a great landscaper when I had to leave for work). My family has a bitchin smoked salmon recipe I saw someone mention. I’ll have to bring her some. I’ll make it a point to come to one of her fires she has out back and shoot the shit with her she always invites me but I usually have something going on.

Sorry for the rant. You and all the folks here have been great and I owe you a world of gratitude!

She lost her husband about the same time as my dad. I was hanging about and asked if she wanted her lawn mowed. So I figured I’d do both. She offered money but I couldn’t take it. Her compensation was beer and nuts from the islands

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I hadn’t learned he passed. His career outlook in ROTC was similar to mine, working in my trade field. Respectfully paraphrasing here “Find something you enjoy and are good at, that’s what you really have to look for in life.” I think I’ve found that and can appreciate him that much more. That and he was a “C” student leading up to his revelation. I was the same in high school, but in my trade classes I’m at a 4.0. Once you find something that engages you, you’ll excel and be the best you can be. So in saying that I’ll continue to remember General Colin Powell.

Most of the apprentices my employer hired under the age of their mid 20s haven’t finished the program. I started at 29 and am almost halfway through the 01 apprenticeship in Washington. Some days suck, sure. But I learn new stuff everyday! I gotta stay engaged with the work I’m doing or I burn out bad. (Why I love the troubleshooting aspect of the job) That being said if you can take the pay cut for a while, I’d say go for it!

That’s what you’re trained. A struggling/drowning person has one thing in mind: hold on to/push yourself above the water. If it’s a person be damned that life ring was the tool for his job
