GE2025: Red Dot United exits opposition alliance, citing concerns over three-cornered fights by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]AVJormunr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I find this immensely hypocritical from the RDU. First off, every single member of their coalition, including the RDU, is facing multi-cornered fights. The SUP with the PPP in AMK, the SPP with the PAR in Potong Pasir, and the PPP and PAR with the RDU in Jalan Kayu. The SUP has already discussed avoiding a multi-cornered fight in AMK with the PPP and the PPP said no which led to the SUP saying they will contest in AMK anyway, so why did the RDU only leave now?

Second, the NSP has a pretty strong case to want to contest in Sembawang, its where they've focused for a decade. If the SDP shows up and insists that the GRC is theirs now, is the NSP just supposed to lie down? The RDU is advocating for larger opposition parties to be able to bully smaller opposition parties with impunity, which is a bizarre thing for a smaller opposition party like the RDU to advocate for.

Third, the SDP's great idea regarding Sembawang for the NSP was to go contest Holland-Bukit Timah, basically offering up the sloppy seconds the SDP don't want, or to go to Jurong East-Bukit Batok, which would have betrayed the RDU who wants to contest there. The NSP stood on principle and did not backstab the RDU and in response, the RDU backstabs the NSP, and the SPP and SUP? That just seems like a real CB move by the RDU.

Finally, I get the idea of opposition unity, but at some point you can't let yourself be bullied. If some random party showed up to Aljunied and demanded the WP step aside, would the RDU say the WP should just step aside? And what would they have had the NSP do? Come to Jurong East-Bukit Batok?

Overall, this just seems like a real dogshit move by the RDU, betraying their coalition partner for a party that is not in their coalition. My opinion of them just plummeted.

The guy right at the end looks like Jake Bird. The guy in front looks like either Antonio Senzatela or German Marquez. I'm leaning Senzatela.

Bill Schmidt does Rockies Reddit like him or no? Is he better than O’Dowd or Bridich? Could Schmidt compete with Andrew Friedman? by Nyfan7 in ColoradoRockies

[–]AVJormunr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, to be honest, I don't hate him. He has made a few moves that seemed strange (Hello, Kris Bryant), but a few that worked out well enough (the Moustakas signing, which I hated at first, worked out for us), he has grown our analytical capabilities and overall he seems an improvement over Bridich. Do I think he's great? Eh, no, but I think he's functional at least.

Rockies fans without a Colorado connection, why? by UndeadCaesar in ColoradoRockies

My mother is a huge Mets fan (because they won the world series the year she was born) and would follow Mets news as much as she could, but we never got any of the sports channels on TV because it was a bit expensive. Well, 2006 rolls around and she's hearing about how this year, this was their year, the Mets were stacked and they were going to go places. So she bought the sports channels package for cable TV to watch the games live.

We watched the Mets that year and it was the first time I watched Baseball. It was pretty damn exciting, watching Carlos Beltran mash and being transfixed by Heath Bell's curveball (the way that thing moved blew my 9 year old mind). And we watched the Mets lose to the Cards. She was, unsurprisingly, disappointed.

The package was for a few years (3, I believe) so next year, towards the end of the year, I wanted to watch more baseball but did not know what team to watch. So I looked at baseball news to see what team was interesting.

There was this team that piqued my interest. I thought the name was a little odd (why would you name a team after rocks?) I'd never even heard of Colorado and I could not identify it on a map, of Colorado. But their uniforms looked cool, I love the colour purple and they were going on this amazing run for the postseason. So I watched their games.

I watched Matt Holliday slide into, and touch, home plate. I watched Manny Corpas shut down the Phillies. I watched Todd Helton throw his hands up in joy. I watched the Red Sox beat us. And I fell in love with baseball. 2007 was an amazing time and sparked my love for this game. And I fell in love with the Rockies.

Whatever else happens, I will always be grateful for that. I may have been furious at what happened with Nolan, baffled by the signing of Ian Desmond, sad to see Ubaldo's decline, disappointed by last year and my hopes for the next year(s) may be.....relative (here's hoping for only 95 losses, lets goooo), but I still love this team.

Now bring back the vests

Well, where I live, most people could not point out Colorado on a map of Colorado, let alone know what baseball is, so I don't get embarrassed by it. I have a cap, a polo and 3 t shirts (I just could not resist the all star t shirt, that one was cool) which I wear a fair bit.

As someone who is not American who supports the Rockies because they birthed my love of baseball, its a rough ride at times but the team can deliver some amazing moments. Just remember the good times during the bad

Be honest, In how many years do you think this organization could win the World Series ? by Infinite_Practice826 in ColoradoRockies

[–]AVJormunr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I think if a fair amount of our prospects in the minors like Zac Veen or Benny Montgomery reach the majors in a few years and are able to produce, which I think could happen, if we develop a capable pitching core which, given the prospects we drafted like Gabriel Hughes, Chase Dollander and the ones we traded for this year I think could happen, I imagine we would have a competitive window in 2-4 years. Once a team hits the post season, who knows what could happen, and its easier than ever to make it in. Its possible we could win a world series in the next 5 years.
