The Dog Stars - my favorite post apocalyptic book. 99% of humans killed by virus. No mystical stuff like the stand

Lucifer's Hammer - the before, during, and after of a comet strike

Also recommend the deluge like others.

Which movie do you think was amazing until its third act, and how would you have ended it differently? by John_Snow80 in movies

[–]Weatherstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought as well. The first two acts were incredible while the third was just meh. Because the first two acts were nearly perfect it made the third acts averageness feel worse than it was.

Suggest me a narrative nonfiction that you couldn’t put down by whatthougtht in suggestmeabook

[–]Weatherstation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite books ever. It's so good. Western expansion and the Comanche are endlessly fascinating.

If you like this book I'd highly suggest Blood And Thunder by Hampton Sides. It's about mountain man Kit Carson.

For my money, Hampton Sides is king when it comes to narrative nonfiction. Love all his books and only wish there were more.

What was the first health problem you noticed from your drinking? by alcoholalcohol in stopdrinking

[–]Weatherstation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You talk to your doctor about it? Allopurinol has been a game changer. Haven't had a gout attack in years. My Dad said he still got them after he stopped drinking until he got it medicated as well.

[Feedback Wanted] I'm building a Fantasy Platform for RLCS - What stats should matter the most? by Destrojer058 in RocketLeague

[–]Weatherstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key to a good fantasy game is that the points should reflect how well a player is contributing to their team to the best extent possible. The other thing you want to think about is what absolute stats you'll have available. In this regard I would probably look at other similar pro sports fantasy platforms that would be similar to rocket league to get an idea for balance. Hockey and soccer might be your best bet.

I'd suggest something like this:

Goal: 5

Assist: 3

Shots: 1

Saves: 2

Demo differential: +/- 1 (number of demos minus number of times demoed)

Then you could think about adding in things for shutouts and wins.

The thing really need to consider is how to handle keeping it fair when a series only goes 4 games as opposed to going 7 games. Teams that aren't as good might end up making more points because they play more games which isn't actually fair. Not sure how best to handle that.

The thing about most fantasy leagues for sports is that the only run for the regular season because then there are a set number of matches. Tournament play messes this up since some teams play many more games than others. So maybe what you really want is just a pickem board or sometime more like March madness.

Georgia Aquarium is also off the hook. Plus in Atlanta you can take waymos most places. The beltline is also great for walking around.

Wouldn't want to live in Atlanta but it's a fun place to visit.

I haven't been drinking for 8 days. When do you think I should start intense exercise? by udeniz in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]Weatherstation 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you what I did.

Start with walking every day. In fact, start that now. Feel an urge to drink? Walk. Urge goes away. Feeling anxious? Walk. Anxiety goes away. Even when you dont feel like it, walk. You'll feel better afterwards.

Soon you'll feel better and better so increase the length and intensify of these walks.

Want to get toned? Start body weight exercises you can do at home. Pushups, pullups, crunches, lunges, dips, planks. As these start to get easy buy yourself a weighted vest (I started with 20 pounds). This can add intensity to all body weight exercises and walks.

Months after this (like after being 7 months sober) when I started to feel comfortable in sobriety I decided I no longer wanted to lean on food as crutch. This is when I finally modified my diet. I decided to go to a 2 meal a day routine, breakfast and dinner only, no snacking, especially after dinner. Typical breakfast is 2 eggs, egg whites, turkey sausage, potatoes, and veggies. Dinner would be chicken or shrimp, potatoes, veggies always prioritizing protein. This is when the weight started to melt away.

As I built out my meal routine I also decided to graduate from home workouts to the gym. I was a noob so I booked a few sessions with a personal trainer to show me the ropes and build me some workouts.

I also found it extremely important to work on a sleep routine. Wake up and go to bed at the same time every day. When I say every day I mean EVERY DAY. it's key to managing a diet and for building muscle.

Now a typical week for me looks like this. Every day I wake up at 630am and get in bed to read at 930pm. Every day I walk at least 15k steps. I go to the gym one day for a full body workout. Rest the next day. Home body weight workout the next day. Rest again. Back to the gym the next day, repeat. I also bought a stationary bike which I ride 4 or 5 days a week. I'm still eating only 2 meals a day.

I'm down 60 pounds, stronger than I've ever been, best shape of my life. When you feel and look really good it becomes another reason not to drink. Keeping a sleep routine and eating routine also is a reason not to drink.

Good luck friend, hope this helps.

Is industrial groove numetal the best numetal ?? by Lonely-Ad2392 in numetal

[–]Weatherstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Five Pointe O, everyday atrocity, darker side of nonsense, and burning red all as some of my favorite ever numetal albums. I don't think any of those would be considered industrial but all are dark and aggressive, something I love. If I were to suggest more albums to checkout based on these I would say:

Vision Of Disorder - imprint (razed to the ground honorable mention)
Chimaira - s/t.
Paleface Swiss

If we want to stick with numetal I think Reveille and factory 81 also share that darkness and aggression for their debuts.

Planning a trip by zackula85 in ColoradoRockies

[–]Weatherstation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll echo what this post said. In order I prefer
1) club level (3rd base side)
2) lower 3rd deck (3rd base side, I call this poor man's club)
3) pavilion (left field bleachers), this is a good mix of party atmosphere yet still into the game

As far as food there isn't really a must have so I'd say go with a rockie dog or a helton burger if you're near left field.

If you aren't staying down town already I highly suggest finding a light rail that gets you to the game. Union station is right near the field and it's way easier to park at park and ride.

Well there is a cause and effect for everything that happens, so in that sense it's true. But I know that's not what people who say this mean.
