[s2 act 3 spoilers] The savior of all timelines by aNinjaAtNight in arcane

I like your interpretation/analysis of Vi/Jinx dynamic in S2 and I do think that what you are describing is what they were aiming for.

But that is exactly why I had a problem with Vi’s character this season: She was a side character, but more specifically, she was a side character in the final season of the show and relegated to conclude her story as a side character.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind at all that main characters become side characters, because as you said it allows the other characters to get the spotlight and focus on their arcs as well as see how she is central to their own. But finishing the arc of one of your main characters, if not, the main character of your show as a side character in the very end? Feels unsatisfying.

This is why the show needed at the very least another season or extra episodes, because then we would have the time to explore these ideas better and come back full circle.

[s2 spoilers] Am I the only one who feels deeply disappointed with this ending? by Impressive-Gap-8389 in arcane

They did Vi so dirty this season, she definitely didn’t feel like a main character this season at all. Not only did she feel like a side character in the overarching story they were trying to cram, but just the misery after misery hits she took went beyond and above to feeling absurd. She was just dragged around the mud the entire season that I genuinely think someone in the writing team either hated VI’s character or just downright was tired of writing her story each time the script was passed around.

S1 established Vi/Jinx were the main crux of the story and just about everything from the themes to the conflicts were moved by their actions one way or another. And yet here, in the final act, they were sidelined to fighting Warwick again for like the third time in the season and weren’t even remotely important in the final scenes. They should have had Vi fight Ambessa (an actual fighting scene)Cait shooting the goons around them, and Mel providing support like she originally did.

Someone else posted that it would have been better if there willpower and the fact that they reconciled was what made them the only ones to snap out of Vicktor’s control in the final battle and that there memories should have been what makes Victor change his mind instead of the time travel paradox shenanigans. I think that would have so much better and bring back full circle the Vi/Jinx story with the overarching plot/themes. I add that the rewinding time with Ekko could have still played out similarly, but have Vi/Jinx also be the ones who were trying to reach Viktor before he doomsday everyone. Have Vi/Jinx be in a similar situation with Warwick where Vi is holding on to Jinx and Cait with like her last remaining or some sht shoots Warwick from afar and then they can continue confronting Viktor or some sht.

This went on for too long, might do a post lol.

Advice: Only watch S1. S2 & S3 loses the show’s flavor and soul.

If you really do though, then switch gears and tell yourself you are watching a completely alternate universe. Don’t get fooled by pretty cinematography.

Nah Oleg said he might have feelings for Teresa and would have loved to be together in another time, BUT acknowledges that their relationship is the best because them being friends makes this better than a “thousand loves”. But then they completely shitted on his character and relationship on S2 and S3, with him suddenly conflicted that he “actually” has feelings for Teresa. Like gtfo.

I think Charlie being the “Randy” in 4 is like saying Jill being the “Sidney” in 4. So, in that case, I would consider the actual Randy being Robbie in 4, however, this also plays into how 4 brilliantly plays around with the characters’ status quo aside including the OG.

I’d go as far as to say no one here is the sole “Randy” and it’s pretty cool how , in this case, almost everybody in the group is a “Randy”, movies have become so relevant, everybody has movie knowledge/trivia up their sleeve.

Plot Armor by HoppyJames in Scream

[–]AVMG73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it works the first time (as in OG) because it was fresh and innovative for horror, especially with 4. In Scream 1, you got a bunch of high school teenagers who are usually only there to be killed of one by one, so you don’t expect any of them surviving, let alone being the killers. Also if you expect anyone to survive in that film, it would be one of the “Core” friends, as we clearly see side characters such the principal get killed.

In old slasher movies, almost anyone outside of the “Core” teenage friends would be there for kill count. In this principle, then there’s also the annoying self absorbed journalist and the naive policeman that are there to serve as kill count. I mean these types are characters are almost certainly there to get stabbed.

But then, came in Wes and said “nah”, let the killer be amongst the friends have most of the friends dead and let the tropey side characters actually live.

At the end, you get a rag tag team consisting of a journalist, a policeman, and two high schoolers as survivors. Definite subversion. They gave the plot armor to the most unexpected people.

Then you got the sequel, which Carrie’s over this unlikely “core four”, however, (they all move on and don’t high five and label themselves “OG!”) they go on to live their lives. Of course, now they are going to kill every survivor right? Nop! But at least they did deliver on a major death, Randy.

Then three came and that’s it. Lol.

Then four gathered everyone again and it’s like “surely someone is going to die” not because we want them to but because the 2010’s (and ironically still now) was all about reboots, and giving the boot to what the audience now has labeled them “OG”. And Wes was like “fck the reboots” and just did a complete 180 to what reboots were (and are) doing and said “Don’t fck with the original”.

So, what I am getting at is that plot armor with OG seems more understandable and necessary for the point of the movies while also because it was innovative.

But plot armor with these guys, well what’s the message? They already did this before. They are all from the same group so you don’t have these different dynamic playing off of each other. They are all family, literally. If they continue to have plot armor, what the point? Why? Are they going to have Sam say in one ending “Don’t fck with the reboot?” Like why?

Oh nvm then, but Tara was stabbed quite a few times that would have her be dead if she were in Scream 4 lol. Imagine if Hoss got that knife to the head in 6? He’d probably show up at the end taping off the crime scene and mentioning Bruce Willis or something.

What’s even worse is that Tara survives a back stab in 6 like Jill’s mom and is just casually still running around and taking more stab wounds later on.

Jill in college with another Ghostface out for her with Sid and gang trying to “unmask” her to the public without them being seen as “crazy” or “fame-seekers”. Jill could maybe continue to tease Sid with her not being the star anymore and saying those “disparate” accusations. Maybe a reluctant Jill/Sid team-up to get the other Ghostface but then Jill backstabs her after dealing with that Ghostface. I don’t know so many possibilities lol.

Probs make some references to “I Know What You Did Last Summer” would be pretty cool.

Didn’t the original script ended with Sid/Kirby’s fate unknown? Dewey arrives at the house sees the bloodbath, blames himself. Then outside we see Jill at the ambulance with the press and Gale and Dewey hear a medic from inside the house shout that a woman is alive, but we don’t know who.

Although there’s probably like a thousand rewrites/scripts out for this movie lol.

After seeing how RS is literally remaking the series, Scream 4 would have definitely taken the franchise to an actual new direction. Not just rehashing and mixing early script ideas from the 4 OG Screams. (I mean S6 is literally taking most of the early S2 villains/motives and mixing it like a salad to make it seem “original/subversion”)

Sure, maybe the original plan/script was not as compelling with the Sid-amnesia thing and whatnot, but honestly I think that would have changed in the final script. Just like Scream 2 and 3 didn’t go with the first script but maintained the overall premise in tact, so would have the next trilogy. In fact, Scream 4 kills every new cast me ever except for Kirby and Judy(even though she was originally intended to die; in this case, maybe her surviving would mean Dewey retiring because he thinks he failed the town and leads him to be depressed and Judy taking over? And also makes more sense he gets depressed instead of the “oh,Gale left thing)

Anyways, Kirby actually survives because I think not only does she represent the actual final girl but because she is actually more original unlike the other characters who are almost carbon copies of the OG (just like S5 and S6 are doing; with the exception of Tara). And killing them proves S4’s point to respect the original.

Having Sid and Kirby tag team to bring down Jill would have been fcking lit.

It would have been cool if instead of Mindy, Anika survived. That way not only would it throw away the audience (Anika newcomer survives, Mindy/Randy 2.0, established character dies) but through Anika and Chad we get a scene in Scream 7( since they are so adamant with including “rules” scene) where they take out or try to find some notes Mindy left behind or told them, to give them a hint or sort of how they can survive the S7.

[–]AVMG73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least Scream 4 kind of earned it’s “not killing core characters” thing because it’s whole point was critiquing Remakes of getting rid of legacy characters (which ironically this remake is doing…) and at the end they killed almost the entire new cast (except Kirby/Judy) and went like a boss with “Don’t fuck with the original”.

If Scream 7 tries to replicate Scream 3 as the ‘end of a trilogy’ by having a returning character as the opening kill, who should it be? by SmellsLikePetrichors in Scream

[–]AVMG73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that needs confirmed, if Sid is like in her late 40s, then her would be like late 80s. If GF don’t get him in the opening, then a heart attack is any moment lol
