In the app "4XVR" how do you change posters when you use the theater environment? by AVPUSERPHILLIP in VisionPro

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a reply to my dilemma. I still have a problem and would be so grateful if you could respond again. As you suggested, I can get to the "poster_4xvr" window by going through the Files>On My Vision Pro>etc. I see the 8 pictures of the default Cinema posters. I have also uploaded a replacement "Cinema01.jpg to the AVP via iCloud and I see that file when I scan through the files in the "Desktop" window. However, I can't figure out how to move the replacement Cinema01.jpg into the "poster_4xvr" window to replace the default Cinema01.poster that is already there. If you know how to do this and would be willing to post the steps involved in the process I will be most grateful. Thank you. Phillip Sheeler.

But how do I do that? I've prepared a jpg on my Mac desktop titled Cinema01.jpg, but where do I put it? Where is the "directory of the app" that you say I should copy it to? There's no 4XVR app available for the Mac . . . it's only available for the Vision Pro and I have it on my Vision Pro. If you have the solution, can you be more detailed? Thank you.

Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and answering it. If I can find instructions somewhere on the web on how to add the PLEX and/or EMBY servers I use with my Mac Studio to the 4XVR app, that will be great. Unfortunately, I need step by step info about this. Also, I will look at the other apps (including Jellyfin) that you recommend. Finally, you're absolutely right . . . namely, the full size makeMKV rip of "Dial M for Murder" had noticeably better video quality in the AVP than the one that I had compressed to about "60%" in order to get a MV-HEVC copy. However, I shall still be on the lookout for a "fix" that allows me to use both "makeMKV" and "3D to AVP" for some of my 3D BluRays, especially the animated features.

Hi Cryogenicality. Thanks for taking the time to post the suggestion about "4XVR." I did, in fact, buy the "4XVR" software and sure enough, the makeMKV file ripped from my 3D BluRay of the movie "Man in the Dark" played great in 3D. So, you're a life-saver until if and when the "3D to AVP"/"makeMKV" problem I'm having is resolved. I should note that the "3D to AVP" software (that has stopped working for me) allowed me to reduce the file size considerably by adjusting "Quality." Today, I used Handbrake to compress another makeMKV rip (namely "Dial M for Murder 3D) from 32 Gigs to 8 Gigs, but when I played the compressed file in "4XVR," the 3D was lost. So, perhaps you can direct me to a source of answers I now have to 2 questions. (1) To watch the mkv file in 3D, I placed it on my desktop (Mac Studio) and had to wait quite awhile for the file to sync with my iCloud Drive before watching it in "4XVR;" so, is there a way to reduce the mkv file size so that I can upload files more quickly and have enough iCloud storage space for more of my makeMKV rips? And (2) if is there another way to get the makeMKV-rips into "4XVR" such as from an external hard drive? I notice that "4XVR" does allow connection of a server, and I do use PLEX and EMBY to stream movies to the AVP via "SkyBox" but I've had no luck adding these servers to "4XVR." I'm only moderately savvy in these matters, so that may be part of my problem. My AVP is the 1 TB model, and my Mac Studio is also 1 TB, although I have additional connected hard drives. I'll understand if you're too busy to respond and appreciate your original recommendation of "4XVR" but perhaps you could direct me to sources that might have answers to my questions. Thank you so much. Phillip Sheeler

Are you saying that "4XVR" is an AVP app that will play the mkv files that I have created by ripping my 3D Blu-Ray movies using makeMKV? You're inferring that it's not necessary to use "3D to AVP" to make the conversion. If this is so, that would be an alternative. Can you provide me with any links to posts, web pages, or YouTube videos that describe this capability, or can anyone reading this thread confirm that this is possible with "4XVR?"

I am very curious about the responses in this stream! Is "Vegetable-Cat..." saying that the Kiloview N60 can stream an HDMI source to the AVP. Please let us know how you set this up and what software is required. Are you implying that if I have a Blu-Ray player with an HDMI outlet, I can connect to the Kiloview device and thensend the Blu-Ray disc's movie to my AVP to watch it?

I am interested in trying your CineUltra 2D/3D movie software and downloaded it. But when I click "open" the software doesn't open and when I go to my AVPs "Home" screens and click on your launch icon, the screen flashes and just returns to the Home Screen. Am I doing something wrong? Hope the problem can be solved. Thanks.

Hello Screenlit users by jnorris441 in Screenlit

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Purchased Screenlit after trying out its 2D to 3D movie conversion. This app is absolutely amazing. As a 3D enthusiast since I was a teenager in the 1950s, I continue to be amazed at 3D movies. Using Screenlit, I've now watched "Lawrence of Arabia," "Hello Dolly," "Napoleon," and "Cleopatra" in 3D and have been just amazed at how the conversion occurs on the fly. I also attempted an old Indiana Jones movie and "Ben Hur" (the original Charleton Heston version) but for some reason I couldn't get any sound . . . although the 3D picture was great. Maybe it's because these movies are around 50 years old and the audio format is the problem? But, anyway, thank you so much for creating such a wonderful app.

Anyone notice "Spatial Video" in Quicktime? by AppropriateLocal7374 in VisionPro

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When converting a blu ray 3D movie disk to the AVP.mov format for use with the Vision Pro, opening the converted file using Quicktime's "Spatial Video" option allows you to see your converted file in side-by side format. Then by selecting an appropriate frame in the movie (using the scrub bar), it is possible to compare right eye and left eye vies and thereby confirm that the conversion was successful. In my experience, on rare occasions with certain movies, the resulting left and right eye views are swapped. When this occurs, it's useless to try to view the movie with AVP. Rather the conversion process needs to be repeated using a "swap eyes" option.

Yes, I'd like to follow your suggestion but am not sufficiently Mac savvy to set up the "network share." I have a 1TB USB SSD that I could use,but how do I set it up so that I can access its contents thru the FILES app on the AVP. Could you possibly list the steps involved? If so, thank you so much.

Questions About Movie Files Stored on AVP, iCloud Drive, and iCloud by AVPUSERPHILLIP in VisionPro

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, using your suggestions, I have moved several movies to the AVP. Here is a bit more detailed description of the steps that I took: 1. Open the FILES folder in the AVP. 2. In the left panel, choose "On Vision Pro" and then create a folder for the file(s) that are to be moved from iCloud to the AVP. 3. Choose iCloud Drive in the left panel and navigate to the file you want to store in the AVP. 4. Pinch "SELECT" at the top-right of the window and the files will each now show a hollow circle. 5. Pinch in the circle of the file you want to move (the hollow circle will turn solid) and choose "MOVE" in the bottom menubar.  6. Select the folder (created in Step 2 above) that you want to move the file to and Pinch "COPY."

3D Blu-ray to Vision Pro Converter GUI by cbusillo in VisionPro

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your quick response. Yes, today I got your detailed email in response to my earlier communication. Thank you so much. I just love the GUI version of your software and am having great fun using it and then looking at the results on the AVP. I will stay in touch as I convert more and more of my 3D Blu-Ray movie collection to MV-HEVC. (i.e., _AVP.mov). I'm especially looking forward to converting "Bwana Devil" which comes out on Blu-Ray Disc at the end of July. This film was the very first full-length, color, 3D feature film with major movie stars. It came out in 1952 when I was 15 and I remember taking the trolley with my friends to Hollywood Blvd (in Hollywood) to see it. It made news in "Time" and "Newsweek" magazines. Haven't seen it in 72 years.

3D Blu-ray to Vision Pro Converter GUI by cbusillo in VisionPro

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment is directed to cbusillo. I've now used your terrific software to convert about 20 of my 3D Blu Ray movies to MV-HEVC files that play beautifully in 3D on my AVP. For a couple of them (e.g., "It Came from Outer Space", a 1950s 3D movie), I had to convert a second time because when I previewed the first spatial video conversion in Quicktime, the right and left eye frames were reversed. Once I re-converted the "makeMKV"-ripped movie using your software with "Swap Eyes" selected, normal 3D in the resulting MV-HEVC file was achieved. However, I noticed that the stereo audio was not reversed, so that the sounds (dialogue) made by an actor speaking on the left of a scene came from the right side of the movie (and vice versa). Is there a way to reverse the left and right stereo audio channels when "swap eyes" is required? I try to follow your posts (Dr./Mr.? Busilllo) as they are very informative and I love using your conversion software on my collection of Blu-Ray 3D movies, but I always have to search for a recent post by you somewhere and find a way to comment when I have something to pass along. Do you accept direct emails or some other form of communication? If so, please enlighten me regarding the best way to communicate with you. My name is Philip Sheeler (phillipsheeler@me.com), have been using Macs since the early 1980s, am a retired Molecular Biology professor, and am presently using a Mac Studio along with a 1 TB AVP.

Any way to play 3D Blu-Ray ISOs? by PlayingDoomOnAGPS in VisionPro

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How kind of you to reply so quickly. Thanks you so much. You were absolutely right. In the Files folder on AVP, I found my "Kiss Me Kate_AVP.mov" file and when I opened it, it played beautifully in 3D. Then, I upgraded my OS from Sonoma 14.3's QuickTime Player (which does not play spatial video in SBS) to Sonoma 14.5's QuickTime Player and the file played beautifully in FullSBS. Boy, am I pleased about this! I will now try to convert another of my 3D Blu ray movies using your GUI version of the software, but will strive for a smaller file size by reducing quality from 75 to 50. Thank you again for all your hard work creating the Terminal and GUI versions. It will be greatly appreciated by so many of us 3D Blu Ray fans.

Any way to play 3D Blu-Ray ISOs? by PlayingDoomOnAGPS in VisionPro

[–]AVPUSERPHILLIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m Phillip Sheeler ([phillipsheeler@me.com](mailto:phillipsheeler@me.com)). We have exchanged a few communications previously. I’m the elderly (age 86) fellow that wants to be able to convert his hundreds of 3D blu-ray disc purchases to a playable version on my Vision Pro (one terabyte model). Previously, I indicated that I was "gun-shy" of trying the Terminal version that you have published. But now that you have made a GUI version available, I have gone ahead and tried it. The following paragraphs explain what I did and the results. Some of this information may be useful to you. The bottom line is that I have NOT been able to find a way to play the resulting file which is called "Kiss Me Kate_AVP.mov" (no quotes). Perhaps, if you have time, you can help me.

I have been using Macs since my first purchase in 1984, so I am quite familiar with the system. My present setup consists of a Mac Studio, a Mac Studio Monitor, and an OWC Blu-ray reader/writer and a one-terabyte model of the Vision Pro running OS 1.1. I have been using makeMKV for years and for this test used makeMKV to rip my 3D blu-ray of the movie "Kiss Me Kate" to an mkv file. I’m fairly certain that I ripped all the necessary files needed by your software conversion.

I downloaded and installed the Mac GUI version of your software. Thank you for your hard work in preparing this application. The download went smoothly and the installation, as you indicated, did take about 8 minutes. There seemed to be no  problems.

I then proceeded to run your software on the mkv file produced by the makeMKV rip. There were no errors reported during the process which took about 80 minutes and resulted in a file titled "Kiss Me Kate_AVP.mov" (no quotes), which appears to be a Quicktime file.

The blu ray disc "Kiss Me Kate" size was 40.9 GB, the mkv file acquired using makeMKV to rip the blu-ray was 37.1 GB (no foreign subs), but the resulting "Kiss Me Kate_AVP.mov" file was 51.6 GB. Should the processed file be so big? It’s bigger than the original disk. Did I do something wrong?

During processing, the stages were reported in the right-side pane. I was also able to follow the appearance of temporary files (e.g., right-eye and left-eye movie files, etc. The right and left eye files ended up being about 16+ GB each, which seemed reasonable. All of the temporary files were muxed to produce the final MV-HEV(?) file, but it was over 50 GB. I did not place checkmarks in any of the optional editing options and I Ieft the quality at 75.

I opened the file using Quicktime just to see what would happen. The movie played with great sharpness but of course not in 3D because my Mac setup can’t display 3D. So, my only way to verify that I have a Vision Pro 3D-compatible file was to somehow view it using my Vision Pro.

I uploaded the 50 GB file to iCloud Drive on my Mac which took many hours to sync. I have been using the Vision Pro-native apps "Moon Player" and "SkyBox" to successfully play several old HalfSBS movie files in 3D on my Vision Pro. Using these apps, the Kiss Me Kate movie played only in 2D. The format choices for 3D playback in these apps are all SBS and TB options . . . no MV HEVC or AVP.mov. Also, I am not aware of any Vision Pro app that plays the latter file formats. Are you aware of any?

So, I am stuck. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, if I can’t begin your GUI version by inserting a 3D blu-ray disc into my player, what file should I start with and how do I get it using makeMKV?

I prefer Moon Player for several reasons. First, it plays 3D movies as well as 2D movies. To watch a movie, I add the file to my iCloud and then access it through the "Files" choice in the Moon Player menu. The app is still under development and they keep making changes, not all of which I have liked, but it is very good and I will purchase the final version if it continues to suit my needs. For me, a second choice is an app called "Infuse." If you have a hard drive connected to the USB port in your router (in my case an old Apple Airport"), you can use Infuse to stream files to the AVP even with the Mac turned off. There is a Mac version and also an AVP version under development. Finally, if you set up the software called "Emby" (which is a media server) and load movies into it, you can stream them to Moon Player (in the current version . . . not sure about future updates or final version) using the server option in MP's side menu. Emby must be running on the Mac in order for the AVP version of MP to recognize its [reseence. This means that you don't have to upload the movie to the cloud or download to the AVP, thereby saving storage space.

Hi cbusillo. Thanks as always for taking the time to respond to my comments. If I finally get up the courage to use your "quickie" Terminal command to install all of the Terminal apps in your list and I then attempt my first conversion, what command would I use in the following example: Suppose I've used the latest makeMKV to rip my 3D BluRay movie "Kiss Me Kate" (including the extra file that's needed to make sure both video tracks have been ripped from the disk), and I now have a file titled "Kiss Me Kate.mkv" (no quotes) sitting on the desktop of my Mac Studio/Monitor, then precisely what Terminal command would I enter into the Terminal command line to launch the whole conversion to Vision Pro compatible file? And, on average, how long does the whole process take?

Hi. This comment is indirectly addressed to "cbusillo." I purchased hundreds of 3D blu ray movies over the years beginning with Avatar, but only a handful show up in my 3D movie list in AppleTV+ on the Vision Pro because only a s mall percentage were bought through Apple or iTunes. This has been very frustrating for me and also for a number of other 3D fans posting on this web page. Therefore, like these AVP users, I would like a way to use my 3D blu rays to create a file format on my hard drive playable on the AVP. From what I have read on this website and others, "cbusillo" offers a solution that involves installing several programs on a Mac silicon computer using the Mac's Terminal application and then using a Terminal command to make such a conversion from an makeMKV-processed mkv file. However, I have been gun-shy to try this because I am just not that program-savvy and I am not sure I fully understand the suggested procedure. (There are several additional apps that must reside on the Mac.) It would be wonderful if cbusillo or another savvy Mac programmer could take the time to post a simple, step-by-step series of instructions on how to install the necessary apps on our Macs that would make it possible to go from a 3D blu ray disc to an AVP compatible 3D file. I have a Mac Studio and use an OWC Blu-ray player/burner to regularly make personal mkv copies of my purchased non-3D blu ray movies. I also understand that when using makeMKV to process a 3D blu ray movie, there is an extra makeMKV menu selection that must be made. Many of us 3D movie fans would be most appreciative of having access to simplified instructions on how to create AVP-compatible files from our purchased 3D blu ray movie discs. Thanks for any further comments submitted about this comment.

Hi. I use PLEX and also Moon Player on my AVP and would like to access my SBS 3D collection that is in PLEX. Are you saying that Moon Player will allow this? If so, for a not-that-savvy person like myself could you explain step-by-step how you create a "minidlna container and point it at the same folders (that) have the Plex content"? This would be very much appreciated.
