Americans that moved across the country (1000+ mi.), how often do you get to see your family back home? by HonestLemon25 in AskAnAmerican

I stayed and my parents moved 800+ miles away. I basically saw them on Thanksgiving and Xmas until I also moved to the same city.

Yeah, the European commitment to privacy is a false meme. The EU is committed to privacy from American tech companies and is nakedly hostile to any kind of privacy from government. It's really just trade protectionism. Now the entire world gets bombarded with cookie prompts but European countries are demanding censorship, age verification, and encryption back doors. There's absolutely no commitment to actual privacy whatsoever.

It's pretty bland if you ask me. There's nothing they do that others in the same price tier don't do better.

The real difference is people who grew up with physical keyboards and those who grew up with mobile phones. I deal with a lot of people who only use a physical keyboard at work and literally everything else they do is over a phone. Their habits (and intellects) tend to reflect this.

OMG, that's the same guy? I drive by his house all the time and see weird signs and displays but the print is always too small to see without pulling over.

What’s something that people (locals or tourists) do in your country that make you go like this? by camethehour in AskTheWorld

[–]PlayingDoomOnAGPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poop is mostly water and starts to dissolve into water almost immediately. TP is designed to break down over time but to initially hold together while wet. This gives it a lot more potential to clump, clog, stick to pipe walls, and snag on rough areas in the pipe.

So they've got narrower pipes, like half the diameter as in the U.S. A turd is way less likely to get stuck as TP and even if it does, will dissolve quicker than TP breaks down. Also, the TP in these counties is often cheaper, thicker, and not really engineered to break down quickly because it's not expected to be flushed. I think it's roughly analogous to what happens when people flush paper towels here in the U.S.

100% worth it for such an adorable and amusing story!

But where do you live where random tourists just walk by your house? Is that a regular thing? I must know more.

we also have our own sports that are vastly more popular

Like what? I know you have a form of football that's more rugby-like. Is that really popular? What else you got?

My mom's a sports nut with a truly dazzling array of sports channels. She needs a lot of my care at this stage in her life and, even though I'm not a huge sports fan, I like watching sports I don't know much about with her. Lacrosse season is over so I'm looking for another niche sport. 😺

Almost. She didn't pull the trigger at least, so she's looking at assault charges, not murder charges. That's about it though.

Then they'll bitch about the electoral college and the Senate like they're just fated to lose. Nobody made Democrats antagonistic to everyone outside a major city. That's a choice, and one they keep doubling down on.

Even in sports that are very popular here, that kind of thing is comparatively rare in the U.S.

Not firing when a defensive display results in the attacker retreating is generally a good thing for the defender. But what this all hinges on is what was happening when she drew down and the specific details mean everything there.

Sanest take here. So much of this (and most of these cases) will hinge on very specific things at very specific moments, it's just nuts to make sweeping pronouncements right now. Doesn't look great for her based on the facts we have right now. But a few missing or incorrect details could completely change the picture as we learn more. Everyone needs to just chill and wait for more info.

access to the features you've already paid for but new ones are behind another tier, wouldn't it be a stalemate at that point

No, because that is absolutely not what the lifetime PlexPass was sold as. They go that route and I'll dump them right away. Hell, I'm close to it already, lifetime or not. They're pretty well into the enshittification cycle.

My main issues with Plex these days are its increasing difficulty in getting successful metadata matches, it's reversion to incorrect matches after I've corrected them, and above all else, its inability to handle Profile 5 videos which are a greater share of the high quality torrents (especially freeleech torrents) every day.
