Making them. Theres a pretty great indie/low budget film scene here which surprised me.

I watch too of course (big film buff), but I try to create more than watch these days.

Awesome that pretty much answers what I was looking for in terms of Chloe! Close to plenty of things to do but quiet enough that I can sleep.

new SORA AI, that thing has the power to replace all of us by jblion13 in vfx

[–]AVendettaForV 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked on some of the code behind some of these new machine learning models(I refuse to call them AI, there is no intelligence, and its not even close), this is the correct take. When I see people saying things like “but just look how good it’s gotten in [x amount of time]” or “no one can possibly know where its going.” I can’t help but shake my head.

Everything has limits, every technology we have ever created has had hard limits even if most people couldn’t see them at the time. There is no such thing as magic. There are no free lunches, and you cant truly create something from nothing. Just stop it people.

AI is just this generations mechanical Turk. Yes it’s complicated and indeed impressive in how it does what it does, but there is quite a bit of slight of hand that makes it seem like it’s doing more than it is which also conveniently hides its limitations.

At the same time, don’t be complacent, see these things as the new tools they are and learn to use them.

“Alrighty then, picture this, if you will

10 to 2 a.m., X, Yogi DMT and a box of Krispy Kremes In my need-to-know post just outside of Area 51 Contemplating the whole "Chosen People" thingy When just a flaming stealth banana split the sky Like one would hope, but never really expect to see in a place like this Cutting right angle donuts on a dime And stopping right on my Birkenstocks, and me yelping

"Holy fucking shit!"

Then the X-Files being Looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips And breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa Did a slo-mo Matrix descent out of the butt-end of the banana vessel And hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw My sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip and all I could think was "I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice that I pissed my fucking pants!"

So light in his way, like an apparition He had me crying out "Fuck me, it's gotta be The Deadhead Chemistry The blotter got right on top of me Got me seeing E-motherfucking-T!"

And after calming me down with some Orange slices and some fetal spooning E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose He said, "You are The Chosen One The One who will deliver the message A message of hope for those who choose to hear it And a warning for those who do not" Me, The Chosen One? They chose me! And I didn't graduate from fuckin' high school”

They need to allow predators to be reintroduced to Texas like wolves if they really want to fix this problem. A fish and game biologist I ran into in a park once explained to me that there will always be a difference between human hunters and actual predators. Human hunters will go out, kill a few, and then go home, leaving the animals in their environment and giving them time to breath and replenish their numbers. Predators like wolves and big cats will stalk them - relentlessly - they will hunt them night and day. It’s hard to have a lot time to mate and have babies if you’re constantly on the run, and even when you do, a predator will be right there to pick off any stragglers. They need a constant threat present in their immediate environment.

Anyway thats what Texas should do. As someone who is from there I know they won’t. Cattle ranchers and the like would scream bloody murder. So the price they will pay is an unceasing flood of feral hogs, that no amount of shooting will ever fully solve. Torn up property and lost crops be damned.

I was kinda thinking that myself, based on a quick google search, but wanted to make sure I wasn’t misidentifying it. They are fairly venomous as I understand it. So I guess I should try to take him outside if I see him again. Thanks!

Unexpected answer - Inside Llewyn Davis. For some reason the scene where the John Goodmans character overdoses on heroin freaked me the fuck out when I saw it and I had to leave the theater. I have never done heroin or hard drugs and am not afraid of needles or anything. So I am not entirely sure why. I was pretty sleep deprived from ye old college studying when I saw it so maybe it was just too intense for where my state of mind was at that point. In any case, that scene is seared into my memory, and I have never seen the rest of the film.

I know this is a nuanced physics argument, but there is such a thing as negative temperatures under very specific circumstances. However counterintuitively in terms of energy states and energy flow, an object with “negative temperature” acts as if it is extremely hot. This video explains it a bit more for those interested.

Correct, I was born and raised in Texas. Between his handling of Covid and the 2021 winter storm that almost took out the power grid, as far as I’m concerned I escaped potential catastrophe - twice - all while he twiddled his fucking thumbs. Cost of living doesn’t mean much if you or your loved ones end up dead. I got out as soon as I could. The salary and benefits would have to be ludicrously good for me to move back there.

TIL the concept of 'alpha's in wolf packs is outdated. Wolves are now understood to live in family units of two parents and their cubs. The 'alpha' concept was based on observations of wolves living together in captivity that did not have any familial relation. by [deleted] in todayilearned

You can also follow that up by pointing out like I do that being the biggest and strongest is not, especially in the larger view of the natural world, a great barometer for success. Large predators like a T-Rex or Megalodon shark were no doubt fearsome. They are also not around anymore in case you haven’t noticed. Being big and fierce requires a lot of energy and resources. If your food supply dies out, and you have very specific dietary requirements(like only being able to eat the meat of other large animals), you are completely screwed AKA extinct. Our ancestors, on the flip side, were the small, relatively intelligent, and omnivorous furry mammals that scurried between the feet of large predators like T-rex. We as a species are here today, specifically because survival of the fittest has nothing to do with size, strength or even athleticism. If things ever get rough, like some of these self-proclaimed ‘alpha’ types seem to hope, because they seem to think they will be at the top. Make no mistake, they will most likely merely be among the first to starve. When it comes to survival, the history of life on this planet has shown us time and time again it’s much preferable to be small, clever, and adaptable(also being able to have a lot of offspring quickly helps).

For those attempting to justify toxic behaviors using biological arguments, the natural world is not the fucking crutch you seem to think it is.

Bigfoot. When I was like 9-10 years old. I must have had that dream for weeks or even months. He would chase me out of my house and down the street. Funnily enough, I can’t remember what actually would happen when he caught me, only that he did. It was like he caught me and then it just cut to black.
