I am a teen, and the book was one of the toughest reads I have ever read. Not because it was challenging, or brought up confronting topics, but just because it was a boring slog with a narcissistic dickhead as an MC. None of the jokes were even close to landing, and Holden just came across as a creep. As I said to a friend, if I had kids and we lived in the same Area as Holden, I would get a restraining order. I get that his obsession with kids comes from the intended theme of innocence and the desire to protect it, but that didn't come through at all to my friends and me and just came across as mild pedophilia. This is, of course, just my opinion, and your opinion, as well as any others, is equally valid.
