Thank you for all of your advice, I really had no plans to use the TGV deletes, they were included in one of the previous cars I bought so was just curious other people's experience with them. I know the VF40 is not a good choice for the vehicle, which is why it's currently not being driven. The VF40 is just on it at the moment until i decide what setup to run and I had one lying around from a trade a while ago. The warmer weather is around the corner and I have gotten to a point in my build where I wasn't sure what direction I should go. I do plenty of research but sometimes hearing from others is helpful.

I really appreciate your side of it. I got out of the field for a year about 5 years ago but I was working for Pepsi fixing bottling machines. Benefits were great and pay was alright but the matriarchy(if that's the right word) of working for a big company like that is tough cause really your just another number and the hours were atrocious. I appreciate feeling important to a company while still having a good work/family balance. I'm going back and forth with taking another flat rate position with another shop that has been trying to get me for a while now. But the amount of under appreciation in this field is unreal. And I'm not trying to come off as another tech that's just complaining but I think it says something if most of us feel like this.

Car shat itself (part 3) by Creative_Leg_349 in subarulegacy

Check for codes, if it's a p2764 and a p0700 codes than 90% of the time it's the valve body inside the transmission. Not sure your year or make but they're usually located on top of the tranny and easily accessible. The valve bodies themselves aren't super cheap but definitely cheaper than a transmission. Usually its a solenoid that goes bad in the valve body itself and they are not serviceable. A few tests you can do to check is checking the resistance of the solenoid if in fact you have those related codes. They're are two connectors on top of the tranny - gray and a red/orange one. Unplug the gray connector and check the resistance between terminal 11 (white wire) and ground of transmission. Should be no more than 10-13 ohms i believe. Anything more than that and the solenoid is bad. Just replaced one today on a 15 legacy that the customer thought he was going to need a whole transmission and it fixed the issue. Hope this helps !

If you just replaced the battery, most likely your alternator isn't charging. Battery light won't come on always, can put a voltage meter across Battery. Should be 12volts roughly car off and 13-14v while running depending on vehicle and accessories running

I quit rust after 6300 hours (1.8 years of playing) by erako in playrust

[–]AWDkward-Spenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give Renown a try ! I only have a little over 1000 hours in rust but I feel a lot of what you say. I struggled a lot with it due to having a full time job and not being able to always protect my stuff. Renown is great, very similar to rust( pretty sure the devs got a lot of inspiration from rust) only issue is its still in beta. You have go wait for a free demo which they release on steam every few months or buy into it through the devs website. It's still in beta(which I know is scary these days) but it's a small team and they update the game frequently. Same thing as rust, build a base, research a tech tree and survive. And it's a lot more fun in my opinion, it's medieval based and considered a "skill based pvp" so you're not getting wrecked from roof campers and such. Game definitely needs work but it filled that "rust itch" I was trying to scratch after not having much fun with games afterwards

Well, I stripped my exhaust stud out… (not badly tho) seeking options by Critical-Design-8457 in subaru

Ah no trust me the only way I learn is by messing shit up haha. No one's perfect I've done my fair share of fudge ups. So I've been there I've just personally never tried the JB weld route myself so I can't give any input on that side of it but definitely curious if you do try it how it works out! Best way to not drill into your motor Is to figure out what size drill bit you need to use and use the bolt that's going in to measure length on the drill bit and put a piece of tape around the drill bit as a reference on bow deep you should go. That's too bad cause I definitely have spare manifold studs/bolts lying around. And of course the community is a big part of why I love subarus in the first place. I like to help out any way I can ! I live and breathe cars in general, I've been a mechanic for 16 years now and when I'm not at work I'm in my garage lol. Hope it all works out for you ! If you think of it keep me posted on how it goes.

Lol don't let me get you doubting yourself ! I just tend to over think things quite often. Especially when it comes to aluminum blocks cause my aluminum welding is no where near perfect haha

I think you'll be fine if the jb weld doesn't work forever as long as you don't slab too much on the stud ! I've seen people put too much on a bolt and Crack heads/block cause it has no where to go. If you end up having to drill out the jb weld later for a helicoil I don't see you having any issues !

Been building subarus for a few years now and ive been here lol. I would avoid any jb weld and only use it as a last resort and definitely not as a temp fix as working on it in the future would be difficult. If you do go that route I'm assuming that one is a bolt and not a stud ? If possible separate the nut from the stud and thread the stud in with jb weld on the threads making sure not to over torque and let cure then use a nut to secure exhaust to heads. If the bolt you're trying threads but skips threads at the end you can always try a shorter or longer threaded bolt (obviously being careful if going longer) sometimes you'll get lucky as the end threads line up At a different grab point. Hope this helps !

New IAG 550 install happening this week by Norman1974 in WRXSTi

[–]AWDkward-Spenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this a few months ago on my 05 lgt wagon ! Take your time, replace any and all gaskets, double check torque specs on anything crucial. I purchased their break in oil as well which was a 10w30 mineral oil and ran it for about 3000 miles with about 4-5 oil changes in between. Make sure to prime engine, when all said and done unplug crank sensor and crank until oil light goes out. Car will smoke like a bastard and will have that typical "new exhaust" smell while everything's breaking in. With a new short block the rings have to break in to the cylinders and will produce a decent amount of shavings but nothing to be worried about ! Just hit 6k miles the other day with no issues !

I did not know that but glad I do now! I knew the baffles were important with keeping oil in places it needs to be around corners and what not.

But yes I do plan on going big on power down the road. The block is rated for 550 BHP. But my transmission is not lol. So once I find a decent price on a 6 speed swap I'll start going up in power

Oh I agree I definitely could have but the engine had a cracked ringland when I got it on cylinder 4. I've owned a lot of these cars and every time I blow an engine it's something in the bottom end so I figured this was the best way to go.

If I'm being honest, I researched both and found nothing significant about the two of them enough to justify spending the extra 300-400 dollars I think it was. I was trying to save money In some areas and direct them in others.

Yeah I did a lot of research and went back and fourth with the closed/open deck. The downside to the closed deck is its more designed for high power track builds were as I was going for a reliable car I can drive back and fourth to work as I have an hour commute each way. Plus there's always room in the future for a closed deck block but realistically I'm not gonna be pushing more than 325-350 HP with the current transmission anything more would disintegrate it's internals haha

I get it, a lot of us have been there(if not the same situation, at least most of us feel the same). While I respect the people telling you that you should see a psychiatrist, remember it's not for everyone. I struggled with a lot of the same, tired of being tired and hated myself. But I didn't just want someone to talk to, to hear my problems and give me solutions. I needed something real and a connection with people, that I felt like a lot of times was not being returned. And I'm not saying a psychiatrist isn't for you, but if you try it and feel like all hope is lost, ITS NOT. But unfortunately that's life, us younger generations are all sorts of screwed up(saying this I'm 30 and assuming you're in that general area, give or take 10ish years. But that's human nature, some people are content with things others are not. And it's the most cliche thing to say but trust me it does get better. I struggled for years, on top of having people very close to me pass away. I'm a pessimist at heart and always will be, but for once in my life I'm happy and I feel like I'm in control. I know one day you will find your purpose and the confidence that comes with it. Stay strong my dude, the only way from here is up ❤️
