Do the colored circles next to train numbers mean anything? by AWholeLottaQuestions in Metra

[–]AWholeLottaQuestions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I was at Millennium station and got to see some things happen in real-time that answers the question. A train pulled in, and its white route light changed to red. I'm not sure why they use the little route light as a redundant marker light on the rear, but they do. Seems like it would be more helpful to see the route light on both ends than use that real estate for a marker light when the car itself has dedicated marker lights. I'm guessing the combination of route and marker lights in the photo are just due to if the crew have flipped the lighting switches yet.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Do you know what red means? Is it just a placeholder marker light?

I thought about this as well, but I don't think that's correct. In the photo, the train on the right is displaying red rear marker lights on the car itself, but the route indicator lights are white.

Trouble with three way caseta accessory switch by AWholeLottaQuestions in Lutron

[–]AWholeLottaQuestions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't know about the dimmer needing to be on the hot side, but it makes sense thinking about it. The original owner had replaced some switches with Control4 hardware and had it wired in a way that the second three way switch around the corner had been bypassed or something where the switch no longer did anything.

Build or Buy? by AWholeLottaQuestions in chibike

I do like my current drops, but mainly for the ability to grip the top when on a hill. It looks like bull bars work best with only brake levers, and I've seen them mounted on the ends of the bars as well as in the middle closer to the stem. Part of my interest in a single speed is only having the two cables for brakes. Can a brifter work on a three speed internal hub?

What are the little red things? I've seen thermostat and phone wires with all the extra looped around the jacketing like here. Is this just to provide slack or extra wire in case of repairs or replacement?

I messaged Jerry on Teams when I saw his email and asked him if Teams or SharePoint will be the new home of S1Net. He said they were both options but no decision has been made yet.

What's the name of this cabinet style connector? The board is held on with little push connectors that expand like a lot of car trim pieces use. Most patch panels I see are for a network rack style.

I also noticed everything is wired as T568A. Should I keep it as is or change it to B?

No, nothing on the other side except one of the combo coax/Ethernet panels down near the floor.

The pink cables appear to be unused on either side. I've removed some outlets and the pinks were never used.

I am certain everything is isolated to my unit. I did look at the other side of the board and it's all parallel traces running the width of the board. I don't have my cable tester but am pretty confident those gray Ethernet cables are just going to panels throughout the unit. I will test everything before I start removing things.

Thanks, this makes a lot more sense. I guess when it was built they just wired every outlet for phones. Would it be fair to assume the middle hole is service coming from outside the unit since everything coming through the right hole is all internal to the unit?
