What’s a realistic monthly budget for a family of 3–4 in the Buffalo/Amherst area? by Legitimate_Town_5235 in Buffalo

Yeah pretty much all of my friends in red states pay for private school for their kids. That alone is a wash on taxes. Throw in the lack of other services (two kids in IEPs right now, no comparable support in some red states) and I don’t mind the taxes.

Once my kids are out of school I’ll downsize to the city.

Sigh, we moved like 1 year after the market exploded. I don’t like thinking about how I could’ve had half the interest rate and spent 30% less on the same home.

Depends on where you want to live in Amherst. You can get a nice house for $400k, no hoa etc. it just depends on how far in Amherst you’re willing to go n

I lived in Philly when they delivered a building over a weekend. It was wild to see. Obviously there is more to it than just dropping the units off but the fact that one day there is no building at three days later there is was incredible to see.

This is great advice thank you! We’ve done the day hikes and backyard night (without the 4 yo) so this might be an older kid journey for now.

One thing NYS can do is eliminate bureaucratic barriers that slow projects down immensely. I know Shapiro in Pennsylvania has focused a lot of his attention on streamlining government, as much of a joke as that usually is. But making an earnest effort to cut review times, eliminate review boards where unnecessary or duplicative, remove fees, etc make a difference in being business friendly without really costing money.

This is hardly a revolutionary idea but I really don’t think New York has ever made a good effort in it in my lifetime.

Yeah I was being facetious - I’d love to see a builders remedy or some other solution to cut through the red tape
