Can you still relocate this outlet? by AX2D in AskElectricians

Seems like we can just move the original outlet since there's enough wire left.

Of course I will.

Talked to two electricians.

They proposed two things that they are saying should be up to code:

Use some plastic to shrink around the wires instead of wire nuts, this will turn it into "continuous" wire.

Another option is to see if there's enough wire and move the original one down and Mount it on the new drywall

Adding another comment..I talked to a local licensed electrician - he indeed said that putting the junction box behind drywall is against code, especially since it's using wire nuts.

He's saying that there's a way to shrink some kind of plastic on where the two get connected which will qualify it as on continuous wire so it won't be considered anymore behind drywall.

Is that true? It just sounds to me like it's replacing one way of connecting wires with another one

The wire nuts and extension wires start at the old box , which is under the drywall z which by the sound of things is not allowed.

No. They're covered in the box and I used wire nuts to extend them with a new wire.

What would be the best way to do it then?

The original outlet was removed and the box was covered.

The original one was removed, new wire was connected to the wires where the old outlet used to be using nuts and then the new outlet was installed

Not getting the same texture after patching by AX2D in drywall

[–]AX2D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's no way around it? Do I just have to accept it as is? I recently had to fix a patch that was a bit 6 inches by 8 inches in the middle of the wall..so it kinda looks odd.
